The silence that hung between them after he mentioned how Solis had thrown out his button was almost missed by Wei, but then his ears twitched and his eyebrows furrowed, realizing that there was something to be investigated in that silence that now hung between them. It wasn't the cold, slightly uncomfortable silence that had plagued them previously. It felt different. Not quite warm, but not quite impersonal.
It felt... embarrassed? About the button? Eyes still squinting, a light seemed to go off and his smile only grew bigger. "You didn't throw out my button did you?" His face was knowing. Aw yeah, he was getting Solis's emotions and shit down pat. He had this on lock, he had this little piece of doom and gloom all figured out.
They'd be having sleepovers within the week.
"I knew it was cute! It was cute, wasn't it?"
The fact that he hadn't thrown it away, hadn't tossed out his envelope, and that he'd returned to the table where they were sitting despite him insisting that he was a nuisance--that assertion was ringing hollower and hollower by the second--had cemented it in his mind that Solis could not possibly hate him as much as he was saying. Wei was certain--certain--that some part of Solis held some affection for him, no matter what his mouth said.
"Yep. I knew it. We're friends now."
