After the banner fiasco, Wei decided maybe the best thing to do would be to avoid things that would make him have to climb or dangle or waste a lot of time on something that could be very easily destroyed. So instead of big banner made of cloth and paint that he had to redo over and over because romanizations were hard when English wasn't your first language.

So he'd settled for buttons and posters. He was out of posters. Now he just needed to hand out buttons.

The little freshman made laps around the courtyard, handing out buttons and giving a small speech until he only had one more button in his hand and one more person to talk to.

He trotted over to the dark-haired boy, holding up the last button. "Hello! My name is Wei HuSun, I'm running for chapter council!"

As usual, Solis was ensconced in a corner created by the two buildings that lined half of the perimeter of the courtyard. He felt safer, if only slightly, knowing that his back was protected. All he had to do was keep track of who was in front of him and he'd be perfectly safe.

His nearly obsessive actions to keep himself protected and five steps ahead of everyone else easily warded away most others his age, though that was okay. He was fine with solitude. It meant no one could hurt him. And then there was sweet silenc--

Or not.

Black eyes stared impassively at the younger boy. It wasn't that the other's monkey-like appearance threw him off-- he'd seen nearly everything on Manta Carlos--, but the mere fact that this boy seemed to have the nerve to bother him, and all for a little button. Regardless, his gaze never wavered even as he mentally reviewed the boy's file, one of many he had filched from the Administration building.

All of this seemed to last only a short moment, and afterwards, Solis arched a delicate, black eyebrow. Maybe this Wei HuSun would leave him alone if he remained silent and fairly unresponsive. It had worked the other few times when others running for the student council had thought to approach him.

The loop he'd made around the courtyard had been rather successful. Almost everyone he'd talked to had been happy to take a button from him, happy to listen to him talk, and most of them knew his name, and he knew theirs. That wasn't to say that he was everyone's friend, but he prided himself on knowing pretty much everyone on campus at least a little.

He even knew of Solis, though the two of them had never actually spoken and they guy tended to not make a huge splash, what with his hiding in corners and everything.

All he knew really was that the guy was pretty antisocial, and kinda mean.

But that didn't mean that he shouldn't try to befriend him, or at least get to know him. After all, if he just ignored people who were overtly mean towards him, he'd lose half the voters in the school.

Wei looked at the button. It looked just like the others, with a cutesy monkey face with hair like his and 'Vote Wei!' Around the perimeter. It wasn't broken or anything...

Finally he held out the button to Solis again and decided to start from the top. "Your name is Solis right?" He asked, keeping out the button. "It's just a button. It won't blow up or anything, promise!"

The freshman smiled at him. "Come on, you can even throw it in the trash once I go."

The boy didn't seem to get it, Solis thought distantly as his dark eyes narrowed slightly. "Yes, I am he." He murmured, voice soft yet no less deadly than one raised and screaming death threats.

The corners of his mouth twitched downward for a split second. He wanted to boy to leave him alone and saw two options currently open to him. He could insult the boy so heavily that he'd go running home, or take the silly button and be done with it. The former was much more appealing to the fairly dark-spirited young man, but he'd already been warned by the Administration for mentally scarring his last roommate. The latter it was.

With an inaudible sigh of dulled annoyance, he quickly reached out and took the button, bringing it down so he could stare at the thing in his hand blankly. Had he been someone else, he would've thought the little button was rather cute, but he couldn't really care less. Placing the small piece of metal on the ground beside him, he brought his gaze back to Wei, arching a brow once more, as if asking why the boy was still there before returning his focus to the large tome-like book on his lap. Hopefully, this would be the last he would see of the simian boy aside from passing each other in the halls of the Academy, as they had no classes together, nor, in Solis' opinion, any reason to interact further.

"Yes, I am he."

Something about the way he said that made the hair on the back of his neck stand up on end in a way that could only be described as painful. It was like a cold bucket of ice water had been dumped down the back of his neck, like someone was trying to play a trick on him.

He glanced over his shoulder to look. He expected something to be standing there with fingers like ice. He refused to believe that it was just a frigid word that made it feel like a cold wind was blowing.

But he took the pin and that was what was important.

Still, Wei couldn't fight this niggling annoyance in the back of his head. Most of the mean people he'd met or had to deal with for the sake of his campaign were at least sympathetic to the goals of a little Monkey Kid who wanted to sit on council and plan events and do PR. Most people tended to think it suited him, being as nice as he was. And cool. And modest, of course.

Yet Solis wasn't doing the same thing. It didn't annoy him in that he wanted the same feeling that everyone else gave him, it annoyed him because he got the distinct impression that something else was the matter. Something else was bothering this guy, and being the nosy and well-meaning monkey he is, he had to at least check what the problem was. It was just in his nature.

"Hey," he asked, crouching down in front of the older student, reading a tome probably as thick as Wei's own head. "Are you alright? Can I help you?"

Solis did his best to ignore the boy in front of him, though didn't completely lose focus of his presence-- it wouldn't do to be caught unawares, even if it meant paying attention to boy who didn't know when enough was enough. Then again, Solis thought absently, it was rather amusing seeing people freak out; he'd spent a few days perfecting that icy tone, so it was good to know it was effective.

When Wei settled down before him, however, it took all of his self control not to try and strangle the boy. As it were, one of his hands twitched slightly, though the only expression on his delicate features was a distant frown as he looked back up. "I hardly think it's any of concern to you." The words were near inaudible, though that seemed to be normal with the dark boy, nor did it lose its frosty tone. "Go be a moronic nuisance somewhere else, yes?"

"What do you mean it's of no concern to me?" Wei asked, his tail twitching slightly with thinly veiled agitation. Really, what was this guy's damage? He was offering to help! Though, given his size and age, maybe Solis was just underestimating how good Wei could actually be with helping other people. After all, someone like him wouldn't be running for student council if he didn't genuinely think that he would be able to help the students that made up the actual student body.

"Is it bullies?" The monkey asked, tilting his head. "Is it classes? Are you tired? Are you stressed? Do you--"

"Go be a moronic nuisance somewhere else, yes?"

Wei could feel his ears flatten against his head, and could almost physically feel his tail tie itself into two overlapping knots.

Being mean? Fine. Being antisocial? Okay. Wanting time to yourself? Totally okay! Being rude? That was the exact opposite of okay. That's the only way he could describe it.

He let out a long sigh and straightened up from his crouch. "Fine. Enjoy your book."

Why couldn't this boy understand that this conversation was a lost cause? It would do Wei no good to continue pestering him, and if Solis had to reach the end of his patience, someone would be losing their sanity, and it certainly wouldn't be himself. Instead of replying again, he remained completely silent, dark eyes boring into the other boy, clearly displeased even if Solis showed no outward expression.

He could just tell that Wei was practically offended at his less-than-welcoming attitude. At least he would leave Solis alone now. With that thought, the dark-haired boy visibly relaxed, once again returning to the large book still open in his lap. It wasn't his problem, and really, he never grew even remotely close to any of the other students; he most definitely would not start now.

But... his gaze kept wandering to the cutesy little button Wei had been insistent on giving him.

He would throw it out once he got up to go back to his dorm.

There was no reason to keep it. At all.

And yet, as people started wandering off in groups to the cafeteria to check out what was being served for dinner, Solis still had the damn button. Sure, it was tucked away in the pocket of his sweatpants so no one would see him with it and think that the icy walls around him were cracking, but he still had it. Stupid thing.

The normally peppy and happy boy was fuming as he walked back to his dorm, waving lightly to the people who still desired to speak to a significantly less bubbly version of Wei Hu Sun. Truly, he tried to put it behind him, tried to ignore the very rude boy who he'd managed to give a button.

Once he'd gotten back his dorm--a little affair, even by the standards of other single dorms--he took a moment to calm down and go over exactly what it was that had happened. Clearly there was something wrong with that guy, but maybe he shouldn't be so quick to pass off the pure negativity of their exchange as just being because the other guy was bitter for no reason. Perhaps Wei had done something to bother him? Maybe he just didn't like monkey people.

He gasped internally.

That bigot!

Wait. No.

Perhaps it had something to do with the Wei talked to him so familiarly even though the two of them had never actually had any kind of interaction beyond that one. Maybe it was better to say that they had gotten off on the wrong foot.

But for Kong's sake! He'd only been trying to help. Was it so wrong for him to just want to help? Wei didn't think so.

He pushed the guy out of his head and started to fill his bag with more election goodies. He'd printed off little trading card type things for the purposes of the election, and he'd hand them out in the cafeteria.

For the moment, he pushed Solis out of his mind.
