Glamoured Form![]() Catalina Alternate Picture Catalina is fair skinned, with raven black hair and dark eyes. She has long, feminine eyelashes and high cheekbones. Objectively speaking, Catalina is a very attractive woman. Her lips are a little on the thinner side, and they're always colored in either light pink or rosy red. Her hair is long, going to her upper back. Part of it is held in a messy bun at the back of her head. Her bangs hang down and frame her face. Her head is shaped like a tear drop, meaning her chin and jaw are sharp. Catalina's eyes and eyebrows are sharp and tilt upward toward her temple, helping to make more prominent the 'come-hither' look she tends to give everyone. Cat likes to wear tight turtle necks and tight jeans. She tends to dress to impress. She enjoys tans, creams, whites, blacks, and browns. These outfits and colors accentuate her curvaceous body. Her legs and torso are long and her hips wide. Natural Form![]() Catalina's Fae Form In this form, Catalina's eyes are completely black and she possess long, thin claws. Her skin is a yellow green and seems is both very smooth and foamy to the touch. She feels much like a frog. Her lips and cheeks are the same rosy color as her glamoured form. In this form her ears are sharp and pointed like an elf, with the tips curling over partially. Her hair is a light shade of green and raises above her head like bark or fire. While it appears soft and almost human-like, it is rough and course to the touch, like tree bark. Her lower legs are covered in coarse foliage, moss, and vines. Her feet are always bare and covered with bark. “You should never ask anyone for anything. Never- and especially from those who are more powerful than yourself.”
― Mikhail Bulgakov, The Master and Margarita.
![]() Catalina, like most of the fae she grew around, is capricious. Her attentions toward others are fickle and she is easily offended. She has no empathy and loves beautiful things of any nature. She will always pay back her debts whether they be good or bad. She is bound by magic to do so. To give her thanks will not only offend her but appeal to her fae magic, creating a debt between her and the one who thanked her. Her gifts never come for free. Like all fae, Catalina is unable to tell a lie, though that doesn't mean she's an honest lady in any sense of the word. Like her many siblings, Catarina has a lawyers version of the truth. She is extremely confident and doesn't like anyone who stands in her way. Determined to get what she wants, Catalina will talk almost anyone on in any way means necessary. Of course, she's been known to make alliances with those she thinks she can control. “Tis the privilege of friendship to talk nonsense, and to have her nonsense respected.”
― Charles Lamb, The Life, Letters and Writings of Charles Lamb
3817Dislike. Quite a naive boy, isn't he? Offended about as easily as those I've met in the Unseelie court. Pity. His other side is so interesting.EdenInterest. Much more interesting than his other side. Very polite. I must say I'm impressed. Let's put him to the test and see how well he fairs.“I want to know what passion is. I want to feel something strongly.”
― Aldous Huxley, Brave New World
![]() FAE MAGIC♦ Glamour: Is magic that is categorized somewhere between shapeshifting and illusions. It seems to bend the very world around it. With the use of glamour, Catalina can change her appearance. In order to do this effectively without the magic coming undone, she must practice using this form for a long time to make it appear natural. As of now, Catalina only knows four glamoured forms. With glamour and a lot of concentration, Catalina can make things appear normal (i.e., hide blood on the floor or graffiti on a wall). She is only able to do this for a short time and on objects that aren't moving. ♦ Can make things hard to find: Catalina is able to make things easily overlooked, so long as she envisions and personally knows (IE: has been around the object) what she plans to make difficult for someone to search out. This ability can only be used on one object at a time though that object can be as large as a two-story building. Catalina cannot hide any living creature or person or flashy object that "wants" to be seen (think any magical object like the one ring, which brings people's attention to it). Rather than making the object invisible, this magic merely makes it unremarkable and uninteresting, making it more likely that people won't believe it's what they're looking for. If someone knows Catalina's magic and understands this power, they may still look into the things she is attempting to hide. Of course, if it's in a character's personality to investigate even unremarkable things, this power will be of no use to Catalina. ♦ Mental Suggestion: Catalina possesses the ability to plant subconscious suggests in people's mind, such as making them want a drink of water or a bite to eat. Simple suggests can be done without breaking a sweat, but complex suggests such as: making someone want to speak to a specific person about a particular topic or to do something against that person's personality or morals are very difficult for her to do and require touching or meeting the person's eyes as she does so. Because people are people, and people have free will, this power does not mean this person will actually do what Catalina expects them to. This power is not mind control and doesn't allow Catalina to know what someone will do with the suggestion she's given them. Giving someone the suggestion to eat doesn't mean they'll want to eat what she's offering them, or where she wants them to. This ability will require Catalina know someone's personality and try her best to predict what they will do. This rings true for the complex suggestions as well. Just because Catalina plants the want for someone to speak about something specific doesn't mean it would be in their personality to do so, and so they still may not. Of course, this all is to suggest the suggestion stuck. Many times, with someone of strong willpower (AKA stubbornness) or a dislike of the suggestion Catalina's offering (IE: she suggests they eat spicy food, this person doesn't like spicy food) the suggestion will simply not take, meaning the personal will not at all be influenced by said suggestion. Catalina will not know whether a suggestion takes or not, as there is no physical tell. Catalina must be in the person's close vicinity to do this ability. Think the area of a two-story home. She may also not be focusing on something else while she is planting the suggestion. (For players, I will trust in your ability to know your character well enough to determine if a suggestion takes or not, or how they will act with said suggestion). ♦ Can make memories involving herself mentally fuzzy: Catalina can make memories with her involvement hazy to recall. She cannot erase them or make someone forget them completely, but she is able to stop someone from remembering details of the events. IE: She could not make someone forget she robbed them, or harmed them in a specific way, but she could make them not remember her specific eye color, what she wore, of the things she said. If she were to tell someone her name in this memory, they would still remember it. Anything significant that drew the person's complete attention would be remembered in this memory, whether it was a dress, the color of Catalina's hair, a weapon, or blood. Specific, seemingly unnoteworthy details at the time will be forgotten. This ability comes in most handy if someone goes to the police. Like with mental suggestions, Catalina must be in the person's close vicinity to do this ability. Think the area of a two-story home. She may also not be focusing on something else while she is doing this magic. FOREST MAGIC♦ Can communicate with nature: Catalina is able to communicate with all things nature, including animals. She does not speak to them in the normal sense of things; rather her connection is subliminal. She has a much easier time communicating with forest trees and animals of the forest. She has the hardest time communicating with aquatic life forces. For creatures, she may only communicate when meeting their eyes. This ability allows her to find her bearings and get approximately five miles worth of information in a radius around her person. Because she doesn't speak in the conventional way to things of nature, she cannot get details. Think of this ability more like a sonar.♦ Nature will be this characters savior (passive ability): While in wild environments, especially the forest, natural will naturally help Catalina to survive. IE: she may become hard to find, or blend in with the bark of the trees, pathways will become clear to her. Catalina cannot request that this happen; the forest will either decide if it helps her or not. More often than not, she is helped. This cannot stop her from being killed in the wild, however. Like communication, this happens easiest with forests and less with aquatic lands. Animals are less likely to help her than the environment. ♦ Can become hidden in the forest: Catalina is able to be hidden in the forest whether by camouflaging with the trees or simply being difficult to find. This only applies to the forest and no other landscapes. ♦ Environmental Adaption (passive ability): Catalina is able to survive in any landscape. She naturally adapts to understand where water is and how to obtain food. She cannot use this in bodies of water, IE: being lost in the ocean. ♦ Natural Poison Immunity (passive ability):: Catalina cannot be poisoned by herbs, mushrooms, or any other such things in the forest. This includes potions that are made from these things. “I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”
― Albert Einstein
![]() CHILDHOODCatalina began her life in the late 12th century as Val'ey Akara. She was born to a lord and lady of the unseelie court and grew around the darker members of the fae. Her powers developed early, as most fae magic does and her father was extremely prideful of her. Her mother despised the attention her father gave her and soon left the two of them.Val'ey learned the lessons of the court and its politics before puberty, as not learning such things would mean the death of her as she had seen so many other children fall before her. The fae, specifically the unseelie court, was unkind to the young and defenseless. Many fae were even known to eat their and other people's children though they favored the flavor of human children. TEENAGE YEARSVal'ey grew to be a very beautiful girl. As she aged her father became distant and soon married her off to a lord for a handsome sum. Val'ey, bitter at her father's rejection, later murdered him but was never found out. She mothered two children with her first husband and learned the beauty of glamour magic from him so that she too could travel in the human world.Soon her lust for the human world outgrew her enjoyment of the power her husband gave her and she ran from him, abandoning both her young children. She fled to the human forests for the remainder of her adolescent life. ADULT YEARSAfter growing to adulthood and perfecting one form of her glamour, Val'ey adventured out into the human world to learn their trades. Later she married a human man and gave birth to three half fae children. She stayed with her family for ten years before abandoning them, never having told her husband her secret. She grew to enjoy the human culture so much that she remained in the outside world for the rest of her Val'ey's long lifetime. A hundred years into using this name, she changed her identity. LUNA WYNTERSLuna Wynters was not Catalina's second identity, but it was the second most important. As Val'ey became known as Luna and managed to set up her life as such, she finally returned to the fae realm and to the Unseelie court. Her abandonment had not been forgotten, as the fae are a long-lived and vengeful people. Her ex-husband and children were furious with her and demanded justice, but to the other fae of the court, such things were common practice. Later, as an act of justice, her ex-husband found and married one of her half-fae daughters. As Luna's life grew, she climbed the social ladder of both the human and fae courts. She rose up any way possible, blackmail, marriage, and sex being some of the most common methods. Her popularity grew, and while in the human world not many could pose a threat, those in the fae realm became jealous of her power and her pride. After a few attempts on her life, Luna returned to the human world for many more years. It was three hundred years before she stepped foot into the fae realm again. LILLIE RHODELillie Rhode came on Catalina's three-hundredth year away from the fae realm, during the 18th century. At this time, many fae stories circulated the place Lillie visited, and she grew curious to their factuality. She once again returned to the fae realm, gaining political power via marrying a councilman. She bore him one child and remained by his side for the rest of her life as Lillie Rhode, leaving the human world as an afterthought. At the end of Lillie's life, she took her child, now an adult, and left to the human realm, marrying them off. RECENT YEARSLillie Rhode, again growing bored of the life she has created, has decided to move to Manta Carlos Islands as Catalina Embers. She again searches for adventure and fun behind a new name and a brand new glamour.Siblings: Catalina has so many siblings she couldn't name them all. Many of them were born before or after her time and she rarely speaks to any of them. Children: Catalina has had multiple children during her long life. She has had both full fae and half fae children. Generally, she leaves her children when they are able to care for themselves, generally in their mid to late teens. “The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
― Maya Angelou, All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes
Catalina lives in Manta Carlos city. Her home isn't extravagant by any means. It's a simple two bedroom and one and a half bathroom house.
Inside her homes is colored in whites and dark, crimson reds. She has several floor to ceiling book shelves with impressive, classic titles. She fancies thick, red curtains on all her windows. Her kitchen and living room are open, separated only by an island counter. Leading from the living room is a small, cozy hallway that goes to the two bedrooms of the home. The right room is Catalina's. It contains a queen sized bed with a thick cream colored comforter, a bay window covered by a thick red curtain, and a body sized mirror facing the bed. She has plush red carpeting in this room. The left room is the guest bedroom. It is simply done in eggshell white, with light cream blankets over a double bed. There is one chair in the upper corner of the room. |
