Sebastian was more than hesitant about stepping onto the main deck for the heat out there was unbearable even when wearing as little clothes possible. There was no way for him to cover the scales with clothes, not if he wanted to stay alive see his next birthday or the Academy again. And he wasn't about to do that. However, he also wan't about to spend the whole trip down in his cabin, at least not when he was alone. Spending the whole trip in his cabin with Hari, however, would be a completely different story.

His boyfriend, however, was not currently at his side, and watching the same for walls for the next few hours, alone, was not something he was interested in. Thus, Sebastian stepped out onto the deck, the scales covering his skin glimmering in the sun.

"Hey, Mizuko, How've you been?" Tanau waved at her, his hand shifting into a hand fan out of habit. He shifted his hand back to normal when he realised what he just did. "Hehe, force of habit."

Tanau's cracked shades were the only thing protecting his eyes from the strong winds. Surprisingly, they seemed to be working decently, for shades anyways. With a smirk, he began to speak.

"Yeah, I'm liking this so far. Though I bet things will get real good when we get to this Triangle place."

"It's actually hurting my head, this trip to Bermuda Triangle I mean." The Japanese girl laughed sheepishly. She suddenly felt foolish for joining this field trip, but honestly, she didn't know she was going to develop a headache.

She chuckled when the shapeshifter made a fan out of his hand. She still thought his abilities were amazing. She didn't want to ditch him, or Alice or anyone, but she wasn't feeling so well.

"I'll probably go back inside later, to rest."

Grant sighed, turning around. He truly did miss his old life sometimes, but as it was now...

The old pirate ended that train of thought with a quick swig of his flask, and turned around, pushing off the railing and moving to walk around the ship.

He was supposed to be chaperoning, after all. Couldn't spend all his time reminiscing. The captain ambled along slowly, glancing around at the students and faculty milling about.

Something interesting was bound to happen eventually, right?

"I'm Roman... Jones. I'm not a teacher," he felt a bit rude for not introducing himself earlier, but he supposed, since Makara (was he allowed to call him that or would he call him 'sir', he wondered) didn't say anything about it, he saw no problem for the moment. Awkwardness creeped in as the teacher bowed. Was he supposed to bow back? He would have shook hands normally, or a quick nod of the head, but bowing was... well, it was what you'd do to the Queen of England in his opinion.

Going back to the earlier comment of Makara, it made him think. Had any other members of staff been before? Roman had always thought Manta Carlos was a lot like Bermuda, but he guessed the triangle was interesting. "I heard it was about methane and density or something. But I like the mystery behind it." Roman wanted to remember what the science behind it was... but then, science didn't explain everything. What else could it not explain?

On this front, Roman was most certainly ahead of Makara. He had never had any true formal education. He was certainly worldly, and knowledgeable about things that others weren't, but he was far from what most people would consider educated. He'd spent his life well away from the sort of idle discoveries that people made about things like the Bermuda Triangle. He'd never even heard of the triangle until recently - not long before the trip itself.

"You would know better then I." He admitted. He saw little shame in that. It was not a fact that would have helped him in his life, and so he hadn't learned it in his life. "I only know that the area is famous for the disappearances of ships." Perhaps others might have looked into the area and become familiar with the legends, but Makara hadn't had that option.

Roman was rather pleased with himself when Makara said he'd probably know better. It made him feel smart, especially since the other person was a teacher. He had found three good outcomes of this conversation: a potential new friend, a chance to show how mature he could be, and the loss of seasickness as his mind was completely drawn away from it. What a good day.

"And planes," he added. "And it ruins compasses." He was quite interesting in the triangle, hence why he signed up for the trip (well, actually, there was quite a lot of reasons, but that was one of them). After all, who wouldn't want to go to a mysterious place where planes are pulled out of the sky?

It was a whole lot of information he knew nothing about, but after a moment something occurred to him that he could actually add to the conversation with. Fishing into his pocket, he drew out a small metal compass, and letting it rest flat on the palm of his hand, he held it out to Roman to demonstrate.

Just like he'd said, the needle swirled slowly in a circle, constantly moving and never settling in one place. Every so often it would seem to settle, only to sway back and forth and then return to rotating.

"Hm. It could be magic." People often said that magic made technology not work, but he wasn't entirely clear on how a compass actually worked.

He watched with fascination at the turning needle. "That's awesome." Roman was generally getting more excited to get to the circle. He wanted to see all the other crazy things happening. "Yeah, must be," he agreed. He didn't know what actually happened in a compass here (or anywhere) but it did seem fun to watch the needle spin. He was glad it sometimes stopped though. It would have made him dizzy, probably.

"What do you teach?" The question had been bugging him for a few moments. Maybe he was a science teacher? Or geography? Or maybe even something Roman had never even heard of. Did it have a connection with the triangle? Maybe he taught 'power classes'. The boy hadn't been to one yet. Maybe he'd start when they got home.

Makara wasn't qualified for any of the 'normal' classes. The truth was that he almost never taught at all. His class was an elective, and one that was almost never chosen. In the past year, he hadn't had even a single student.

He didn't mind all that much. The majority of his time was spent instead as a dorm parent, or else counselling those that came in with undead related problems.

"Khmer." He said softly, before deciding that was a very poor explanation. Most people didn't know what Khmer was, and it wasn't like 'Japanese', where it was obviously the language of Japan. "The language spoken in Cambodia." Far from the most interesting subject taught at the academy, but the only one he felt qualified to teach.
