Personality Description:
<details><summary>Personality</summary>
<ul style="list-style-type:disc;margin:0px;padding:10px;"><li>Not a nice boy
<li>Stubborn to a fault and doesn’t take no for an answer
<li>Can be sarcastic and something of a smartass
<li>Can sometimes be rude/a bit of a jerk
<li>Very mischievous
<li>Pretty outgoing
<li>Little respect for appointed authority; people must earn his respect through actions, not prestige
<li>However, when someone DOES earn his respect, they tend to have a strong sway over his actions
<li>Can be very blunt at times
<li> Sometimes arrogant
<li> He isn’t exactly nice, but he isn’t exactly a bully either. It’s a bit of a complicated thing, where he may be downright terrible at times, but tries not to go too far, and is better some days than others. Once again, very complicated.
<li>Though he can be mean at times, he doesn’t like to cause lasting harm, especially in the psychological way. He also is not as relentless as a classic horrible bully – it’s very hard to describe and depends heavily on the situation and his mood, which fluctuates alongside his morality itself. May start a fight with someone in the school hall out of little to no reasoning, yet apologize not long after and try to help them out a bit
</ul>
<ul style="list-style-type:disc;margin:0px;padding:10px;"><li>Is very flirty
<li>Flirts with anyone who catches his eye, though he is careful about it around multiple “opportunities”
<li>Can be a bit of a player, and he can’t deny liking the game he plays (though he may try)
<li>Usually won’t call you back, though there’s a chance of it with everyone he’s with
<li>Technically a switch, but prefers being the Dom (usually)
<li>Can be considered a heartbreaker by some
<li>Despite these things, he does respect others – especially women. He respects their boundaries, takes no for an answer (for once), and won’t lead them on indefinitely</ul>
<ul style="list-style-type:disc;margin:0px;padding:10px;"><li>Does have a childish side, every now and again
<li>Sometimes he slips up and nicknames like ‘Sol-chan’ occur. Welp, there goes pretending he isn’t an otaku</ul>
<ul style="list-style-type:disc;margin:0px;padding:10px;"><li>Doesn’t make the best grades, though they aren’t terrible either
<li>Still, isn’t stupid at all, and is actually very intelligent
<li>However, he is lazy, and the people/groups he gets involved with keep him from his studies
<li>Surprisingly good with strategy
<li>Could join the chess club, and actually enjoys games of the like, but… well… his reputation!
<li>Though sometimes he makes the fact that he’s lying very obvious, these things are usually intentional; Calan is a very good liar, and could be good at manipulation if he actually wanted to</ul>
<ul style="list-style-type:disc;margin:0px;padding:10px;"><li>Often displays a carefree disposition
<li>Displays this proudly by waving off scolding from ill-respected authority, etc
<li>Doesn’t let insults affect him in public
<li>Generally tried to avoid serious situations unless they’re important/necessary
<li>However, as the atmosphere gets heavy and serious situations do inevitably arise, he is not incapable of handling them and can do so quite well actually
<li>Though he doesn’t let jibes get to him in public, Calan often lays awake at night pondering them and many other things.
<li>He is a bit of a thinker when the lights are off and the doors are locked, though to most, this sensitive side of him is kept hidden – and hidden well, as he makes a lot of enemies</ul>
<ul style="list-style-type:disc;margin:0px;padding:10px;"><li>May have many acquaintances and friends
<li>Rarely lets people get close, though – and I do mean rarely
<li>Deep down, he honestly wishes more people would try to be close to him
<li>However, at the same time, he can also be known to push away those who try
<li>Actually has an extreme fear of intimacy
<li>This is due to his fear of himself, as opposed to a mistrust in others
<li>May be very physical (And may even sleep with) the people he is not particularly afraid to lose… but won’t let himself get close to those he cares deeply for.
<li>Still has good friends, though, that he does keep around – but he is careful not to get too close, both physically and emotionally</ul>
<ul style="list-style-type:disc;margin:0px;padding:10px;"><li>As previously stated, he has an immense fear of himself. He knows he lacks control, due to his species, and is petrified to the point of recurring insomnia over hurting someone he loves
<li>Has begun to truly hate himself for his mistakes and inadequacy, but can’t change, and can’t bring himself to end it all either – he doesn’t even know if it’s possible, and even then, he’s afraid to</ul>
<ul style="list-style-type:disc;margin:0px;padding:10px;"><li>Around the friends that he keeps around, <li>Calan may seem not quite as rough around the edges
<li>Also displays a kinder disposition
<li>May come across as quieter, and his awkward little quirks start to show themselves
<li>Talks and sings to himself often
<li>Does odd little dances and movements at times
<li>Is not afraid to spontaneously break into song (and air guitar)
<li>Begins to relax when he doesn’t need to be tough and keep his image up; he starts to goof off a little more than usual, and overall appear much less on edge
<li>Has a secret love for reading, especially fiction, though he’s not the best writer
<li>Actually got really into the Twilight books, despite their portrayal of Edward, though he’d rather die that admit it
<li>Can’t draw; he even messes up stick figures… somehow…
<li>Has an even more secret obsession with anime. And Vocaloid. Miku-tan…
<li>Totally embraces his feminine side. He will go get his nails done with his female friends, and he will flipping enjoy it
<li>Very skilled musician, with his most exceptional skill in guitar, vocal, and – surprisingly – piano.
<li>Owns and preforms on a very popular youtube channel. It centers around his music and is very well-known, with thousands of subscribers, though he hasn’t been sponsored due to the more private knowledge of his multiple recorded run-ins with the law. He also has various other social media accounts, all centered around </ul>
<ul style="list-style-type:disc;margin:0px;padding:10px;"><li>Speaking of which, he has quite the list of nasty habits, and the dark side that he possesses is fit enough for a, well, vampire
<li>Has multiple crime records with the police, many of them centered around theft and gang activity – <li>though he has done some time in juvie, he never was busted for the big things
<li>Is no stranger to ‘the drink’ and has had periods where he would go out and get drunk nightly
<li>Is better than that now, but there is always a strong chance for relapse, especially since Calan never quit drinking altogether
<li>Smokes, as he is free from the risks due to his powers
<li>Has done drugs on multiple occasions. Still does them, though he isn’t strongly addicted
<li>Before he fled his old town for the Academy, Calan was an avid and well-sought-after drug dealer, working directly under a powerful higher-up in his gang. He made a good profit, which was why he ever risked himself at all
<li>Was very involved in gang activity. He has killed many times, with some for reasons other than blood desperation…
<li>Will probably go back to it eventually, but he doesn’t want to
<li>Can fight well in hand-to-hand, as well as with various weapons, and is best in close range
<li>Knows how to shoot a gun, and has shot one outside of a shooting range…
<li>Has sold himself to lusty men and women alike on the worst nights, his fear and disgust of himself quelled only by the necessity for money and the comfort of knowing that he couldn’t get STDs. The memories of those times still haunt him when he dares to remember, and thus Calan prefers to leave them forgotten.</ul>
<ul style="list-style-type:disc;margin:0px;padding:10px;"><li>Beneath all his terrible faults, rude personality aspects and desperation to keep his loved ones safe at all costs… Calan is lonely. The thing he wants most in the world is friendship, forgiveness, companionship… love. All he truly wants in life is to be loved, but with the danger and violence clouding him like a disease… Calan wonders if ‘love’ is something he will ever find again.</ul></details?
Powers:
<details><summary>Vampirism (Long - Feel Free to Skip):</summary>
<details><summary>Strengths:</summary>
The following are strengths that the vampire specie possesses.
<details><summary>- Accelerated Healing:</summary>
Vampires, by default, heal noticeably faster than many of their human and magical creature counterparts. This healing, for surface wounds, moves at a visual rate. Small wounds, such as paper-cuts, bruising, and vampiric bite marks, heal extremely quickly. However, Calan has yet to fully train this power, and thus the rate that larger-than-small wounds heal is just somewhat faster than the norm. For example, small cuts on his arm may heal completely within minutes, while small bone fractures may take about half the usual time, or less, to heal. Larger bone breaks/serious injury still take a while.
With this advancement in healing comes an increased durability to damage. It takes more to injure Calan than it does to injure an ordinary person (more effort, knife blades do less damage, etc), and much more to leave him in such a bad state he can’t continue. Despite his heightened pain sensory, Calan can withstand well, and is able to fight longer and sustain more injury than the ordinary person.
When it comes to losing limbs, he is able to reattach them to his body, but this requires stitching, binding, and a lengthier healing session. Normally-fatal injuries will not kill Calan, and he will be alive after, say, his neck is broken. However, should the snap be enough to break his brain’s contact with the rest of the body, etc, he may find himself paralysed. Brain and nerve damage will heal over time, just as any injury will, but Calan will still experience the pain associated with the wound. He may be able to move and fight after having his chest cavity exploded (so long as his spine wasn’t snapped, etc), but whether he will be able to function under the pain is another story altogether. Direct brain damage can go as far as leaving Calan in a coma-like state of unconsciousness for an undetermined amount of time, as well.
The only way to truly keep Calan down and out for an infinite amount of time, without killing him, is decapitation. Though, after a lengthy healing session, his severed head may awaken and even speak, he will be unable to move his body while being detached from it. He will, however, retain his personality and memories, etc. If one destroys his head/brain, it will regenerate if even a small piece of tissue remains.
However, should Calan’s head/brain be completely destroyed, he will die.
Calan has found that his saliva also has a healing agent. He is able to heal any bite marks left on his victims with a single lick, covering them flawlessly even if the victim is, by then, deceased. This instantaneous healing also works with small injuries like paper-cuts and pencil jabs, and can give a slight form of advanced healing to those he wants to help – however, this is not great, works little on larger wounds of others, and is only a temporary increase in healing speed.
Licking his own wounds, if larger than the range that will be instantaneously healed, does not double back and stack onto his advanced healing.
Calan’s saliva also works as a numbing agent, when he wants it to. It is able to erase low amounts of pain, somewhat dull moderate pain, and take a very slight edge off severe pain. This is also temporary.

<details><summary>- Immortality: </summary>
Vampires, as a species, have the power of immortality. However, this only works in the sense that they can live forever, and have few things that are able to kill them, but not that they cannot die at all. They can also choose when to stop aging in appearance, start aging again, and rewind their aging process to a certain degree. They are able to speed up aging as well, though only to the physical equivalent of an age they had reached before. (Ex. A 20 year old cannot age to 40 without having at least turned 40 before. However, an 80 year old vampire can age down to 20, and then speed up aging to 40 as their needs change.) This age shifting is latent until the vampire is 20 years of age. Also, the longer a vampire lives, the more pronounced their vampiric features become and the less human they appear. Still, this last part is something that takes centuries, give or take time depending on how fast they age. Anti-aging cream can slightly and slowly reverse the process.
Should a vampire simply get tired of living after so much time on earth, as many, many have done before, they have one of two options for relief. One option is to die by one of their various weaknesses, which isn’t appealing to many due to pain, and the other is to simply… “fade away”. This is a painless something that can happen gradually, or quickly, depending on how fast they want to fade. A slow fading can give way to more time on earth, while a quick fading lets them leave faster. Any fading in any stage can be interrupted and reversed. </details>

<details><summary>- Paranormal Communication:</summary>
Calan is able to communicate and see the spirits of his victims, should they choose to show themselves. They appear when they choose to appear, and can remain in three states of visibility: invisible, visible to Calan, and visible to all. Spirits can manifest physically, very shortly, and are able to throw things about the room. However, this is weak, and can only be used for character development – in other words, they can’t be used for battle situations, or used in a battle, unless all participants are willing OOC and they are not being used as weapons for one character against another (unless one character has the ability to control spirits). Therefore, he can’t control them, summon them in fights or anything of the sort, but from them (if they actually want to help him out) he can learn bits and pieces of history etc. However, when killed too soon, the dead don’t tend to rest so peacefully…
CURRENTLY LATENT. </details>
<details><summary>- Enhanced Abilities:</summary>
- Strength: At the moment, Calan has the ability to punch a hole through a wall – rather, creating a hole into the type of wall one would find in a house – a bit more easily than others who try, and can also more easily lift heavy objects that ordinary people would struggle with. It’s not a huge strength boost, but it’s a boost. Can be increased with in-character training.
- Speed: This, however, is raised considerably. Though not exactly a real-life Kid Flash, Calan is able to run quite a bit faster than the average human. Can be increased with in-character training.
- Stamina: Stamina is raised to be proportionate with speed and strength; in other words, it balances them and allows him to actually use his enhanced physical abilities. (In other words, there is no noticeable boost at all.) Can be increased with in-character training, just as anyone can increase their stamina.
- Hearing: Increased dramatically. Though he has learned with time to tune out the world to a tolerable level, when he concentrates, his ears are strong enough to pick up blood coursing through the veins of people or magical creatures around him. Can also hear heartbeats, breaking, etc.
- Smell and Taste: These two heightened senses work together, as they do for average humans.
Taste, however, is not yet enhanced, and must be trained completely IC (in other words, the taste area is latent, and it will take three threads of some sort of taste training to unlock. Threads do not have to consist of only eating food as frankly that would be hard to roleplay, but there has to be a portion of the thread used towards this power.)
Meanwhile, smell – boosted significantly – works much in the same way that taste would. Ever heard the phrase, “I can smell your fear”? Calan can. His sense of smell is much like an animals, able to be used for tracking and for assessing various things about his prey or counterpart. He is able to get an inkling of emotions and other hormone-induced changes that go on in an individual’s body by discreetly smelling the area around them, the closer the proximity being the stronger the smell. He can also nearly smell the blood coursing through a body when he focuses, which creates problems when his counterparts have open cuts (or for the female ones specifically, when they are on their time of the month). The smell of blood is especially heightened to him due to his increased smell, and it triggers his bloodlust. Finally, and perhaps the most useful aspect of his increased sense of smell, is the fact that he can use this to memorize individual and family smell signatures. Every person aside from identical twins has a unique smell to them, and Calan has the ability to pick up and memorize this easily – and could do this even before his Vampirism fully awoke. As such, he still remembers his brother, Solis’, scent signature and will be able to identify him.
- Touch: Unknown use. Pain and pleasure are both heightened, though not terribly much. Calan has developed a high pain tolerance in order to combat the pain increase, as he has experienced much pain, but pleasure… it still felt highly, as he has not felt enough to form a resistance at all (nor has he tried).
- Instinct: Calan has a strong instinct about people, emotions, and situations. This is the sense that alerts him that he is being watched or if the decision he is about to make is the wrong one. These feelings are usually very strong and just as accurate, when they occur, that is. They don’t happen every time, and they have been wrong before. However, whether he obeys his gut instinct is up to him, and more than once, he has ignored it. Sometimes ignoring it works out fine, even for the better, but sometimes it messes up irreparably. </details>
<details><summary>- Flight/Levitation:</summary>
Calan is able to fly as high and as long as he pleases, so long as there is enough air to breath. He is faster and more agile than when walking, though it is much harder to cease fast movement/slow down.</details>

<details><summary>General Species Attributes:</summary>
The following are neither Strengths nor Weaknesses, and are instead just general attributes of the Vampire Species.
<details><summary>- Changing:</summary>
CURRENTLY LATENT. EXPLANATION BELOW.
All Bloodborne and Changed Vampires have the ability to turn other humans and magical creatures into Vampires, so long as the being they wish to turn is technically alive, and the one Changing them is Fully-Fledged. The Ritual is fairly easy to understand, and must take place at night: 1) The Vampire must bite the individual being Changed and drain of their blood until they are on the brink of death; 2) The Vampire must cut their own body or the body of another Fully-Fledged and drip their blood into the mouth of the near-death individual, thereby causing the individual to drink the blood; 3) The Vampire must finally kill the Changing individual, thus completing the process.
Once the Ritual is complete, it will take 24 hours for the Change to complete itself. During that time, the Changing Vampire’s body must be kept in a cool, dark, isolated area so that they may change completely. They will need to be fed the blood of a Full-Fledged once per hour – the swallowing mechanism is the only one that remains during the Sleep. For all intents and purposes, for the 24 hour period, the body is completely deprived of life. Corpse-like symptoms may begin to appear, such as paling skin, dark bruises in the ears and hands, and blue lips. They will also seem icy to the touch, just as any corpse would. Should someone ignorant of the Ritual find them, void of even a pulse, there is no doubt they will think the body has died and must be buried. This is why the Fully-Fledged Vampire must stay with their Changing individual – any touch from a non-Vampire may interrupt vital processes, and the body really will die.
The individual will awaken roughly 10 minutes after the 24th feeding and will thus be known as a Fledgling. Though looking quite like they did before the Change began, there will be notable changes – such as the fact that they will have a small set of temporary fangs in their mouth, their irises will glow a bright blood-red, and they will retain the corpse-like features they had during the Sleep. As such, they will seem to be exactly what they are – an Undead being that should not be walking as it is. They may seems to be shaky, jittery, and easily provoked, as well as somewhat clingy towards the one or ones who changed them, though their previous personalities will remain intact. Aches and sharp pains will be extremely common. They will find themselves unable to use their old powers for the time being, and only very weak variants of what a Fully-Fledged can accomplish. The time they remain in this state is indefinite, though it cannot be longer than a week, lest the Fledgling die a horrible death of convulsing and agony.
In order to surpass this first stage of Fledglingism and escape impending death, their Fully-Fledged Makers must lead them on their first hunt. The object of this hunt is simple – the Fledgling must catch, bite, and completely drain a human or other living, breathing creature that is not an ordinary animal, etc. Yes, completely – unless the Fledgling wishes to die, they must kill another and fully drain them.
RITUAL DESCRIPTION WILL BE COMPLETED LATER. CURRENTLY LATENT AS CALAN IS NOT A FULLY-FLEDGED VAMPIRE. BECOMING FULLY-FLEDGED HAPPENS WHEN ONE HAS UNLOCKED ALL OF THE LISTED POWERS, THOUGH THIS DOES NOT MEAN THEY HAVE MASTERED THEM.
</details>
<details><summary>- Reproduction:</summary>
All Bloodborne Vampires are able to procreate just like normal living beings. However, Changed Vampires cannot – unless they consume the blood of a Bloodborne after the initial changing. The species as a whole has the ability to keep themselves from reproducing in order to simply experience more… pleasurable activities without consequences looming over them, but with the increased reliability of protection, most don’t think to make the effort any longer. Another particular peculiarity with vampiric reproduction is that, not only is male pregnancy possible in their species, but the males can and have impregnated males (and females, for that matter) of other species in which male pregnancy should not be possible. This aspect of their reproduction is very strange, even to them, and has proven to be both a nuisance and a blessing depending on which individual you ask.
Studies tie it to the fact that vampires were a much endangered species for several centuries, possibly for thousands of years even, and their pregnancies were usually rocky at best even still. Vampires needed a way to ensure their species would continue to grow even should females be absent, and due to their already-supernatural ties, the change in their bodies was easy enough.</details>
<details><summary>- Pleasurable Bites:</summary>
It is common knowledge to anyone who knows of true Vampire lore that the bite of a Vampire is much more pleasurable than it is painful. Chemicals in the fangs of a Vampire cause an almost instantaneous release of strong levels of oxytocin. As they initially bite, there may be a sharp sting, but it is quickly is replaced with a euphoria comparable to or even better than sexual intercourse or a drug rush in the body of the bitten individual.
However, the Vampire is not left out of the fun, either. The taste of blood is a delicious one, indescribable and yet most are unanimous on the opinion that it is one of the best, if not the best, that their species knows. The flavor and act of taking the blood may leave them in intense pleasure as well, though not as intense as the pleasure of the bitten one.
To Vampires, the blood of their own species is also delicious, though noticeably less so than that of a non-vampiric being, and so many take part in the practice of drinking from each other in order to avoid feeding off humans and other mortal creatures. In their culture, though erotic feelings can be invoked by the practice, Feeding is not seen as something sexual or unfaithful to possible partners. Instead, it is seen as a natural part of life, though how two feeding members choose to… relieve possible tensions is all on them.</details>
<details><summary>- Resistance to Drugs, Alcohol and Poison:</summary>
Compared to humans and other beings, Vampires in general seem to have a much better time holding their liquor than a human and it takes much more for them to be subjected to alcohol poisoning. Drugs also seems to have a substantially weaker influence on them.</details>
<details><summary>- Consumption: </summary>
Despite popular belief, a Vampire is not only limited to blood, and can eat other foods just as easily as humans and other magical creature. In fact, Vampires actually have a much wider palette than many species, though the reasons behind this are rather complicated. It is not uncommon to find a Vampire with a sweet tooth for candy or particular love for all things Italian (sometimes including actual Italians) – they have preferences and eating abilities just as any other species. However, they are still dependent on blood as a primary food source, and will die if they cannot ingest it for certain lengths of time.
Though the need to consume blood awakens at the time of ‘birth’ for Changed vampires, ones who are Bloodborne awaken differently. They realize their bloodlust the first time they are around enough of the substance, with the need to feed growing to animalistic desperation and death by a week later. It is their weakest time with the power of consumption, just as a Changed vampire must feed in a week to ensure survival. Luckily, a Bloodborne does not need to drain a human or other magical creature completely, unlike the Changed. Mothers usually awaken this bloodlust between their children’s fifth to tenth birthdays.</details>
<details><summary>- Hiding Their Fangs:</summary>
Think of it this way – if a vampire’s fangs were constantly out for show, it would dramatically hinder them. For one, many of the people they meet would automatically fear them, falling back on what they know of old vampire folklore. For another – imagine tripping! Their own teeth would injure them. In order to combat this, they have evolved a way to hide their fangs. If need be, they can make their fangs morph back into regular-looking canines, though all vampires are free to leave their fangs be if they wish to.</details>
<details><summary>- Night Vision:</summary>
Due to their species and inclination towards night time, vampire eyes have over the years adapted to the dark. They are able to see at night just as clearly as if it were day, though of course it all looks darker.</details>
<details><summary>- Shifting Eyes:</summary>
As a vampire utilizes their powers or experiences certain emotions, their eyes may begin to change color. The color varies between individuals, and at times their natural shades and those of the change may blend. For example, a blue-eyed individual whose eyes change to red may find their irises appearing purple at times. Sometimes, their sclera changes as well. Not all vampires have this, though most do.</details>
<details><summary>- Adept Memory:</summary>
Vampires have a very strong and detailed memory in comparison to many other humans and magical beings. They can call up details easily and retain their memories from both a long time prior and from very young ages.</details>
</details>
<details> <summary>Weaknesses:</summary>
The following are weaknesses that the vampire specie faces.
<details><summary>- Burning in the Sun</summary>
Warning. Some detail of injury ahead.
Written assuming the vampire goes outside in normal clothing. This is temporarily set in list format for convenience (and time):
- When a vampire first enters the sun, he seems to be fine, if uncomfortable and a bit fatigued after only moments of exposure.
- Within five minutes, however, any skin exposed to the sun will have turned to a deep pink, going on red. In other words, a bad - but still 1st degree - burn.
- Less than ten minutes into the sun and his skin will have morphed into a fiery, bloodshot red, and with the blooming blisters, is definitely in the 2nd degree stage.
- It will be less than an overall time of 15 minutes for the 2nd degree burn to have progressed further, now being a light 3rd degree. He would be bleeding by now, as well.
- By 20 minutes, the light 3rd degree burn would have now become a definite, moderate 3rd degree. Blood would have begun to seep from his pores. The pain would also be intense and unable to be ignored.
- At 25 minutes in the unforgiving sun, the vampire would be too fatigued to continue struggling. His powers would go into a sort of sleep mode, and his advanced healing would cease to work. With all of his protection against the sun gone, his condition would quickly spread to the areas of his body NOT in the sun. His body would be gone into a severe third degree burn, with nonvisible areas only fairing slight better than visible ones. The bleeding of his pores would have begun to stop, but start from the openings in his body. He would only be clinging to consciousness by this point. The pain would be so strong that his nerves would be shocked by it, and he would slowly start to go numb – but not entirely.
- 30 minutes would leave the vampire unconscious, his bleeding pores having fully stopped but other areas still leaking blood, and more strongly at that. He would be incredibly disfigured, his identity only recognizable to those who know his facial structure (and possibly hair style?). All exposed skin would be burnt to an even pitch black and literal crisp, with non-exposed skin not far behind.
- From then on, the more exposure to the sun the vampire would have, the worse they will continue to bleed and burn. Their body will begin to wilt, wither, and crumble away. In an hour, they may be left to a skeleton or less, and in an hour and a half, ashes. The brain will be the last remaining part of the body to become ashen (added only because a vampire only dies when this organ is destroyed, if the death does not involve other weaknesses). Once the brain is completely burnt away, the vampire will be pronounced dead – however, should it be saved, the vampire can regenerate. The process of regenerating the body itself would be a slow and careful one, but would only take about two weeks. However, the regenerated vampire would be sick for a very long time.
- Some things are able to protect vampires from the deadly sunlight. Things such as charmed jewelry, clothing, and other enchanted items can cast a spell over the vampire using them, though these items are rare and must be obtained through effort. Other slightly more common items, like sunblock (SPF 5000), can also work temporarily, though they must be bought from a magic shop just like the enchanted items. Ordinary clothing takes some of the bite of the sun away, but the vampire will still get much less severe burns underneath, and can die from them if they spend too long outside. Thicker clothing and a couple layers works better than a thin white tee-shirt, but even 500 layers of thick coats just won’t completely fix the sun. Shade helps in the same way that clothing does, but a little less so.
</details>
<details><summary>- Fire:</summary>
Fire is also something that can kill a vampire. However, this only works if their entire body is roasted to ashes – otherwise, they will heal again, as well as regenerate the rest of what was lost. Fire can also kill a vampire if their opponent manages to decapitate them and burn the head completely. Burns, if not lethal, are more painful than many other types of injuries.</details>
<details><summary>- Vervain/Verbena:</summary>
Touching it causes burns, ingesting it causes major indigestion, intense pain and injury to internal organs. Vervain/Verbena cannot kill them.</details>
<details><summary>- Garlic and Salt:</summary>
Though much less severe than with Vervain/Verbena, vampires do have a weakness towards salt and garlic. Small amounts, or when it is mixed into food evenly, they may be able to consume it with little discomfort; some even develop a taste for it, the slight burn a bit like spicy foods. However, large amounts in food or eating any amount of either without something diluting it can cause severe pain to vampires. They can handle salt, but handling garlic is uncomfortable, and surrounding oneself with a circle of salt/lining the doorways with salt, or rubbing garlic all over one’s body, can ward them away and make someone invulnerable to a vampire’s bite.</details>
<details><summary>- Entering Homes:</summary>
Vampires cannot enter a home (or dorm) without being invited in. However, once allowed in, they can’t be forced to leave with words alone, and they don’t need to renew permission. (Just to be clear, if it’s their own house, they don’t need permission… but if they’re sharing a house with someone who was living there before them, they need to ask – but only the first time).</details>
<details><summary>- Wooden Weapons:</summary>
Weapons made of the wood of a White Oak Tree can kill if lodged in the heart or brain. They cause intense pain and considerable physical damage otherwise, though touch without penetration or ingestion does not injure.</details>
<details><summary>- Result of Heightened Senses:</summary>
Just because heightened senses mean good things, does not mean they cannot damage as well. Strong odors and loud sounds are painful to a Vampire’s sensitive nose and ears, respectively. Putrid or overly-rich tastes, they cannot handle, and bright or flashing lights blind them for longer. Physical stimuli, both pleasant and painful, are heightened considerably and can be great weaknesses.</details>
<details><summary>- Light Sensitive:</summary>
Though it has already been stated that heightened senses can cause pain, vampires are especially prone to injury by light. This is because their eyes are adapted to seeing in the dark of night, and have a hard time adjusting to the bright rays of daylight. Many have to wear sunglasses during the day to protect themselves, and may be temporarily blinded with bursts of intense light. Only vampires who spend considerable amounts of time awake during the day can forgo sunglasses, but even then, they may still require them in the brightest hours.</details>
<details><summary>- Result of Resistance to Drugs:</summary>
Drugs do not just include harmful or pleasurable drugs such as cocaine and/or marijuana. Vampires also require more helpful drugs as well, and thus it is harder for them to be treated for illnesses – which they can, in fact, catch. They often require much higher dosages than the average being, and since Vampirism and most other types of powers are a closely guarded secret amongst the supernaturals, they often cannot get what they need and are left to get over it on their own.</details>
<details><summary>- Must Feed:</summary>
Unlike humans and many other magical creatures, Vampires do not have to Feed every day – or even every week. Instead, once a month is enough to keep themselves alive, with many vampires eating normal foods to keep themselves feeling full. However, Feeding more than once is… definitely recommended. The longer one goes without drinking, the more restless they become – symptoms of their hunger beginning to show after the two week mark. They are able to control themselves fairly well for a week following, though they will seem to progressively get more twitchy, jittery and seemingly impatient with everyone around them. By three weeks they are definitely craving and looking for a fix, and by a month they are desperate for something – anything – to satisfy their bloodlust. They may look especially pale or sickly by this time.
Many have tried to wean themselves from the substance, pushing themselves to their own limits in-between feedings, but all that has occurred was the vampires snapping and hurting a human or creature they didn’t want to bite. The more time that elapses, the more desperate they become, and a desperate, hungry vampire is something no one wants to meet. After all, a vampire with no self-control is one more prone to draining a being to death.</details>
<details?><summary>- Serious Illness, Dehydration, and Malnutrition:</summary>
Serious illness, dehydration, and malnutrition can kill a vampire. However, they do fare better against and live longer when faced with them, in comparison to other beings. Malnutrition only applies to blood consumption, not the ingestion of other foods. Are generally excluded from things like lung cancer from smoking*, though it can happen in very rare cases, and STDs, which there have been no reports of.
*They are excluded from it in the sense that smoking does not cause them cancer and other harmful side effects. However, they can still get cancer from genes, etc.</details>

Mother: Gabrielle Marshall (nee’ Senshine)
Father: Unknown
Step-Father: Baxter Marshall
Siblings: Solis Karma
Biography:
<details><summary>Calan's History</summary>
- On streets with mother, Gabrielle, and brother, Solis, for first 3 to 4 years of life. First solid memories are from when he was around two.
- Got taken in by Baxter Marshall at around age 3 to 4. Calan was iffy about him but accepted him out of ignorance and youth.
- Baxter and Gabrielle married. Started school soon after. Picked on but not quite bullied. Remembers developing a sort of brother complex over Solis, always looking out for him. Age: between 5 and 6.
- Mother took Calan and Solis and fled their house, former (currently unidentified) pursuers having found them again. Solis was dropped at a boy's home as he could blend in due to the suppressing of his powers, nevr to be seen again by Calan. Mother continued on with Calan, hid him in a warehouse during a fight, and was killed in the ruckus. Calan was not found. Age: between 7 and 8
- After, the police discovered the incident and brought Calan home. Baxter had discovered Calan's, Solis', and Gabrielle's vampirism, though he also learned that Solis' was suppressed. Blamed Calan (and slightly Solis, though he was gone) alongside the entire vampire species for the death of his wife. Took it out on Calan verbally and physically. Only helped Calan with his new-found bloodlust - he awoke when his mother died - because it was Gabrielle's dying wish in the note she had supplied him.
- Calan forever blamed himself for his mother's death and Solis' disappearance.
- Time simply moved on from there. Baxter's opinions never improved when it came to Calan, instead only growing worse as the boy began to lose sleep, bottom up in grades, and crave blood more and more.
- He remained in an odd place in school, not quite bullied but not eactly popular, either. However, either way, he got little attention. To combat this, young Calan began to grow more outgoing in public and act out constantly. It wasn't long before he was hanging with the wrong crowds and getting into some bad habis even before he left the 6th grade. Some began to pick on him incessantly, while others fawned and even feared him. However, no one tried to truly befriend Calan.
- That was, until Brooke showed up. They met in 7th grade, both confused about middle school and assigned as buddies for the 1st day. Ended up just sticking around each other, and Calan (who was terribly eager for a true friend at the time) was open around her. Brooke was able to look beyond his bad habits and delinquent ways as he showed her the good sides of him as well, knowing no reason to keep her out. He didn't realize that he could hurt her yet.
- Calan had always enjoyed music, but around this time, his true talent was beginning to really show as well. He devoted himself into the hobby he loved, and vowed to one day have his song played on the radio. Music served as an escape for Calan, and one he had fun with immensely.
- In the summer between 8th grade and 9th grade, Calan and Brooke got together, finally taking a chance to go the next step. Meanwhile, he fell farther into his nasty habits, picking up a smoking streak and testing the waters of alcohol. Baxter lost his job due to showing up at work dead drunk, and Calan wandered the streets for easy money and occasional petty theft in response to their lack of income. Brooke continued to put up with Calan's issues, and tried to help him, but it was in vain for the most part.
- For a while, though, it did work. Calan was not terribly deep into shady things, and he and Brooke had come to the conclusion that they loved each other as well. They often talked about a future together, and for a long while, Calan was sure he would marry her. She showed no signs of disapproval at this either. Brooke knew about Calan's species, but she stayed with him despite the danger.
- Calan's 16th year stands out because this is the time that he and Brooke fell apart - but not in the way that one would thing. There was no messy break up, broken friendships, awkward silences. Instead, there was just a mess, broken people, a deafening silence. Calan had been trying to resist his bloodlust for a while, Brooke supporting him in his decision to try and become less dependent on the substance. However, he was unaware of the side effects it caused, and the fact that it was virtually impossible to do. He ended up biting Brooke in a moment of intimacy, draining her dry. She did not survive... but she did not fight, either.
- Calan was absolutely destroyed for a very long time, and still is, though he has learned to bury it. Without his light, the teen delved further and further into the shady parts of life, getting into drugs and gang activity. He was a dealer, gunman, a smoker, everything that Brooke had tried to save him from. Calan didn't try to stop his fall, but only make it quicker. With hisgang demanding a certain amount of pay, and Calan stealing occasionally from the stocks for his own personal gain, there was a harder press for money every once in a while. It was in these hard pressed times, times when he could find no other way, that he would sell himself on the streets willingly. It never happened often, and he got the money sum he owed his bosses, but the nights left scars that Calan refuses to acknowledge as of yet. He ignores them, instead.
- When Calan realized that he was not only failing school but neglecting the music he loved so dearly, as well as when he started having closer and closer calls with the cops, he knew it was time to lay off. He was able to pull himself out of his drug addiction over the course of several months, but never could completely kick drinking (though he didn't try). His grades began to improve to a good average and his music was active once again. However, his many connections to gangs and dealers made him unable to leave completely, and he couldn't bring himself to get out either. It was a terrible cycle of better and worse with Calan, and he couldn't break free.
- This is why, in many ways, the letter from Starlight Academy was a blessing in an envelope. It provided a clean, immediate escape from everything he could escape from - dealers, gangs, money problems, and his father. He didn't have to pay to go to school there, and whats more, there was a chance they knew how to handle and help his species. There was no decision to be made.
- In less than a week after recieving the message from the Academy, Calan had packed up and quietly slipped from his old home, saying goodbye to everything. Luckily though, there was little to say goodbye to, and Calan found himself looking forward to life for the first time in a long time.
- However, old habits die hard, especially when they're of the nasty breed. Will he stay clean and stay sober? Or will he slip back under the waves? Only time will tell for Calan Marshall.
Additional Information:
*Placing and type of piercing change. This is made possible due to the fact that Calan has accelerated healing and can heal previous piercing sites without scarring. However… this also means he has to get places re-pierced often. However, he has hardly removed his tongue ring at all in several years (this one being his favorite) and thus it takes a few days to a week to begin to close over.
This tongue ring is actually an enchanted piece of jewelry and can change size and appearance at Calan’s will, becoming anything from an earring to a necklace. It is also under the influence of another spell, as well; this accessory has the ability to protect Calan from the sun. Should he lose it, he would have to do a thread or two searching for another, and these can’t happen immediately after he loses the ring.
Calan does not like broadcasting the fact that he is a vampire, and prefers to keep his dark sides and murders, etc, a secret. Though he will not deny his species if asked, and will publicly use many of his powers, he generally won’t make it obvious by showing his fangs and the like.
