"People say that clouds look like sheep, but I always thought they were giant, fluffy rabbits, just playing around in the sky. And... someday I'm going to join them."
Name: Max Simillaire Cadavre, usually Max, but also responds to derogatory nicknames.
Age: 22
Birthday: Decided by random lottery every new year because she doesn't know the actual date
Gender: Female
Category: Student
Class: High school because too spaced out to progress any further
Appearance Description: Max is fairly short, standing only at an upright 5'1. She stands upright, with minimal slouching, oft giving off an aura of a stately and proper lady. Her light brown hair drops down to beyond her hips, somewhere near the back of her knees. She is thin, dangerously close to looking skinny.
Her face is rather rounded and her eyes are a vivid blue, often staring off into space. Wide-eyed, and often mildly slack-jawed, Max is a contradiction. Her graceful, demure demeanor and her airheaded, spaced-out manner gets a bit jarring to some people.
While she has multiple outfits, Max most often wears knee-length skirts and striped shirts, and a signature black painter cap. She wears suspenders instead of belts.
Personality Description: Max is airy and dreamy... which is rather accurate as she is always in her own world, constantly thinking of something else. As a result, she is distracted and difficult to understand. While she is gentle and rather benign, it is only because she sees too much that she couldn't care enough to be anything else. Thus, if she has a reason to be headstrong, she proves problematically stubborn. She is aloof and distant, and led by whimsy.
She is a curious, inquisitive soul with an active (some say hyperactive) imagination. While she has an air of innocence about her, she does have maturity hidden deep beneath and is far from idiotic. As a matter of fact, she is sharp and observant, if a bit blunt.
Powers:
Sight Beyond Sight
Max, in addition to her physical sight, can see the world in three other ways. In order to change the way she sees, she has to close her eyes and press her eyelids in for five seconds. She can have two different sight modes active at once, which she can accomplish by squeezing her eyes until they begin to bleed, but doing so is very disorienting and is mentally damaging.
The three other ways she can see the world are:
Emotional
In this mode of vision, she sees only sentient creatures, who appear as swirling, shaped masses of color that is determined by their current most predominant emotion. Angry people, for instance, might appear to be vivid red, but subtle other underlying emotions might mix in other shades and hues. Emotionless objects are invisible with this kind of vision, giving the impression of being in a colorless, black void populated by nothing but colored shapes shambling about.
Spiritual
This sight lets her see the souls of living creatures nearby. This particular experience is nightmarish - since magical capability, life experience, and sort of existence affects the soul, the things she sees tend to be far from normal. For example if she were to see some sort of otherworldly creature under a glamour or disguise, she would instead see its actual form. Some souls are damaged and broken either by magical or mystical interference or by traumatizing experiences; this reflects in how she sees them, maybe missing limbs, or horrible scarred in places.
Temporal
Max can peer briefly into the future - five minutes forward maximum. However, when peering into the future, she cannot do anything much else, as the world she perceives is different from the one that she occupies. She can talk, which is the most she can do while using this vision.
As an aside note, none of her special ways of seeing the world affect the rest of her senses; while it does not matter much, it is a glaring flaw when she peers into the future and smells, feels and listens to the present. Such a disconnect proves disorienting enough to make her faint.
Biography: Max Simillaire Cadavre was born to a troubled family on an unspecified date, and as far as she could remember, she had always had a hard time. Her parents were both alcoholics, and by the time she reached the age of seven she had been involved in more drunken brawls than most teenagers. It was a taxing thing, and she grew fearful living in that small house.
Desperately, she wished to see either an escape from her cruel reality, or a way to fix things. At the age of eight, she found that her wish was granted - but only partially. She was given the sight she asked for, but she soon found quickly that it would not fix things.
Instead, what happened was that she found solace in her new sight. It was a colorful realm to hide in, and she spent more and more time away from her house, wandering around and taking in the sights. As the situation at home worsened, she started to isolate herself more, the early seeds of her current aloofness taking root. At her school, she became an outcast, shunned by everyone, even some of the faculty. The only thing that kept her there was an old acoustic piano in the music room that she stayed in or broke into after school.
For four more years this situation stayed, eventually forcing her to drop out of school not only because her parents couldn't afford or care about her education anymore, but also because she couldn't focus, what with all her dreams taking all of her attention. The only thing that stayed constant through this tumultuous period was her playing of the piano, to the point that she became a local school legend known only by the music that she made in the music room that most believed haunted.
At the age of thirteen, the biggest familial fight she ever was involved in took place, which resulted in the hospitalization of her mother. While she didn't particularly care, this meant that local child services took her away. She spent two years in government care, still sneaking out to play the piano. Then she, without warning, found herself waking up in an unfamiliar city. What she did not know was that the demon Feanon pulled her into Manta Carlos, but she was still as distant and aloof as ever. This proved mildly problematic, as no one had any idea how to get through to her. She was, as she always was, alone.
The academy called out to her however; even in the distance she could see its vivid glow, a cornucopia of colorful existences. Without pausing for rest, she walked straight toward it, only stopping when she fainted outside the steps.
Starlight Academy let her in after much testing and much deliberation; and she had to start back again in grade schooling, delaying her education. But she did not mind, as the place was too fascinating for her. In the past, to escape her parents she'd dreamt while awake - now she didn't even need to dream.
