Name : Na Lan Tai Hu : 納蘭太湖 : Nà Lán Tài Hú, but really only goes by Na Lan because Tai Hu literally means "Great Lake"

Age : Was conceived in a puddle of water around 11,000 BC and thereafter spent several thousand years gaining sentience. Has no particular day of birth

Birthday : None

Gender : He technically has no gender but identifies himself as male

Nationality : Chinese Lake Spirit

Category : Student / NPC

Class : Graduate School, Master's Program

Major : Environmental Science and Oceanology

Appearance Description : Na Lan stands at five feet and seven inches tall, with an average build but sickly body. He is almost constantly plagued by illness, due to the pollution that is currently poisoning his lake. Though he has mostly human features, he is clearly an otherworldly creature due to the presence of blue coral-like horns and dog-like "ears." These "ears" are really just clumps of hair protecting new, flexible horn growths that won't become mature for another few thousand years. He barely feels anything if people touch them but it will hurt quite a bit if anybody decides to snap one in half. He has ankle-length light blue hair that turns to lavender at the ends as well as pupil-less cyan-colored eyes.

The red spheres at the ends of his "ears" are just decoration. His expression rarely changes. He naturally emits some light due to being a spirit but this is very faint unless he is in water or someplace dark.

Personality Description : Na Lan gives the impression of being aloof because he usually spends his time daydreaming and seeking out sources of water. He's actually perfectly nice, but he has a hard time showing it because his mastery of facial expressions and body language is comparable to that of dead fish. At least when he's not in water. In general, Na Lan can be summed up as fluid. His interests can shift quickly but when he becomes especially focused on something, it's best to let obsession simply run its course. He does occasionally pick up hobbies that he'll retain for very long periods of time but more often than not, he'll find something he likes, play around with it for a while, and then shelve it for another time.

Lately, however, Na Lan's been slowing down due to illness. He often stays indoors on the drier days. If there's too much sunlight, he'll often elect to sleep the day away or to bring an umbrella with him.

Inhuman Nature : Greater Lake Spirit - Na Lan is a lake spirit of above average abilities but is not among the most powerful. Not even close. He shares an unbreakable connection with his lake and is able to sense what is occurring at the lake at all times. Due to distance, however, this information can be weakened. In general, something that affects the lake will also affect Na Lan. For example, the more polluted the lake becomes, the sicker Na Lan gets. Unfortunately, the lake is becoming quite polluted and likely won't be cleaned in a long time.

Eternal Waters
Na Lan is able to dissolve his form into water. When he is cut or injured, people will also be able to see that rather than bleeding blood, he bleeds pure water. In order to regain some strength and heal, he must drink more water. In addition, he is capable of becoming one with any body of water, but only if it is fresh water, since Tai Hu is a freshwater lake. Salt affects him the same way that alcohol affects humans. He sweats it out at the same rate that normal humans would take to recover from hangovers. It would be very, very unwise for him to try and dissolve in the middle of a saltwater lake because that would probably kill him.

Luminescence
When in water, Na Lan can convey his emotions through patterns of soft luminescence that mean absolutely nothing if the viewer has no idea what they mean. Most spirits will get the message, if a bit garbled, but it's probable that other beings will think that it's purely for show. To somebody who understands it, however, they would be able to see that Na Lan is actually deeply expressive.

Cultivator
Na Lan has the ability to manipulate water in his surroundings. However, unless the water is freshwater, he will struggle to control it due to the impurities within it. He is able to conserve some freshwater in his body and later draw it out as rain. This rain takes the form of light to moderate showers, for a short period of time over a small area. Large storms are beyond his ability and he cannot create clouds, only seed existing ones with rain.

Diviner
Because he is a water spirit, Na Lan is able sense the presence of bodies of water. He is naturally drawn to all sources of water, with the strongest attraction for clean water. Often on dry days, he will become obsessed with seeking out water, whether it's from a lake or a water fountain. This obsession is unnatural among water spirits and tends to manifest itself among spirits whose lakes have become polluted. It is a survival mechanism that makes spirits seek out bodies of water that they could possibly be compatible with, so that they may claim that as their home instead. This will gradually override the bond that the spirit has with its original body of water but the process can be very slow and will not work for all spirits.

Birth Place / Hometown : Taihu, Jiangsu Province, China : 太湖, 江蘇省 : Tài Hú, Jiāng Sū Shěng

Father : Yangtze River : 揚子江 : Yángzǐ Jiāng

Mother : Qiantang River : 錢塘江 : Qiántáng Jiāng

Occupation: Teaching Assistant

Biography : Na Lan was born in Lake Tai in Jiangsu Province, China, when it was merely a puddle. From this water, he was conceived and lay dormant for many thousand of years before being awakened by the spirit of the Yangtze River, which claimed him as its child and protected him from the wilder saltwater spirits in the ocean. The spirit of the Qiantang River later took up the role of secondary protector, thus becoming Na Lan's "mother."

For many thousands of years, Na Lan was content to stay in his lake and maybe occasionally come out from time to time to tend to the lands adjacent to it. He rarely had personal contact with humans except for mystics who stopped by the area, though he did enjoy observing humans from a distance. Whenever wars occurred, he normally would retreat to the bottom of his lake for long periods of time and not surface until the fighting was over.

However, the one thing that he could not ignore was modernization. As China became more and more industrialized, more and more bodies of water became polluted. Very soon, his own lake was becoming so contaminated that it took a large toll on his own health. Somehow, it actually became better from him to leave the lake, which had never been the case in the past.

Frightened by the change, he spilled his worries to the next group of mystics who had stopped by. After some contemplation, they decided to relocate him until somebody could be convinced to clean up his lake, which sadly still has not happened.

He has been at Manta Carlos since the 1990's and has not left since his arrival all the way back then.

Additional Information : "Na Lan" actually isn't part of his name at all. He just picked it because "Great Lake" isn't a real name; it's just a description.
