You should have done this sooner. Spirit said reprovingly as the boy made his was towards the Counselor's Office through a surprisingly windy summer's day. The wind had been blowing the whole day yesterday as well, and had dragged a tick layer of deep grey clouds to cover the usually crystal blue sky. When paired up with a slight morning chill in the air, the atmosphere could almost make one forget that it was supposed to be summer.

I didn't get a chance. William mumbled in return, lying through his teeth and the wolf knew it. In truth, he had welt to awkward to go and visit the councelor while he was in hospital and had gathered enough courage to go and see Wong again only once he was absolutely sure that he would find the man sitting in his office again.

The only thing you didn't get a chance to do was fly to the Moon, William. the wolf rebuked the boy again, not in the mood to deal with his little, self-told, white lies today. You should have come sooner.

Shut up. the boy muttered again, biting into his lip. He wasn't in the mood for Spirit's remarks today either, for he already felt guilty enough as it was, which was probably why he was bringing coffee with himself to the therapist's office. For now. He still might throw it away, because which sane person brings coffee to their therapist?

Then he remembered that a sane person wouldn't need a therapist for the third time that day.

Damn it all. he swore under his breath as he went past the infirmary and towards the usually open door of Wong's office.

Hey, doc, you in there? he called as he knocked loudly on the door frame, making sure that he was heard in every possible way.

Do you have to be so loud? Spirit asked with a sigh which only earned him a dark look from William.

Do you have to be so overbearing today? the boy gave a question of his own as he entered the office, turning his back towards the wolf.

Anybody home? the boy spoke loudly again after he got no answer to his previous call.

Pham Thi Anh Sang (with Wong Ha Jung)

It was quiet in the office and Anh Sang couldn't help but fidget in her seat as she did her homework, trying to avoid bumping her swinging legs into the desk. It was important that she didn't make any noise so as much as she wanted to sigh in exasperation over the terrible, awful paper things in front of her, she couldn't. Because if she did, then she might wake up Ha Jung and if she woke up Ha Jung then he'd be acting funny again. He'd brush it off and apologize a lot to her and then she would feel bad because it was her fault he'd been in the hospital for so long. And on top of that, it would only keep him up for a while and he'd just go back to sleep again unless somebody came to look for him.

So she tried to be a good girl and do her homework without bothering anybody, but the more she looked at it, the more she was convinced that history just didn't like her. The words kept scrambling themselves in front of her eyes and Anh Sang just didn't know what to do with it all. Whatever. History was stupid anyways. But it was the only subject that she had left so she just slumped in her seat and stared across the desk at Ha Jung's sleeping form on the couch.

The girl didn't really think that it was a good idea for him to be sleeping so much. He had gone and practically slept through the entire week, after all, but Anh Sang was still a little hopeful, too, that if he slept enough, he'd wake up and be okay somehow. He had almost looked better in the hospital than he did now. Just that day, as he was helping her with math, he hadn't been able to do problems that Anh Sang could do with just a bit of thought. It was scary. His hair had changed from its pretty pink color to just plain black, too, and she had to wonder if maybe that had something to do with it all. He said something about it being part of his magic, right? She was sure he had but couldn't remember how that was important.

So there wasn't anything that she could do about it besides just sit there and watch him. Technically, she was supposed to have gone an hour ago but it felt really wrong just to leave him there alone like she had been doing. It was the one of the only ways the girl knew to be of help. Earlier on, too, she had gone about picking up the loose papers and small objects that had fallen on the ground. Now the office looked somewhat like it usually did before, before-

-It was distressing to think about so the girl simply skipped over it mentally, the child's mind both tired and occupied by worrying for somebody else. When the very loud knock came on the door, Anh Sang was almost relieved to the point of tears. She scrambled out of her seat as quietly as possible -not that it really mattered, she supposed. Ha Jung hadn't even moved and she stopped in front of him for a few moments just to make sure that he was still breathing.

Somewhat satisfied with that brief check, the girl went and answered the door, opening a few inches and poking her head out. "Um, hi," she said to the boy who was there, disappointed that he wasn't an adult who could actually help. She blinked at the wolf that was by him but shrugged it off. It was just typical Academy stuff, although she couldn't help but be put at unease by any large animal now. "Um, are you here to see Ha Jung?"

I...Yes. the boy said, blinking in confusion at the small, black-haired Asian girl that had poked her head through the crack in the door instead of Wong. He had been so focused on what he should say to the counselor once the man opened the door, making dozens of excuses as to why he hadn't come to see him earlier in his head, each more stupid than the other and none good enough to make him feel less guilty, that the appearance of this small girl completely threw him off his tracks. Is he in? he asked a few seconds of dead silence later, a confused frown slowly forming itself on his brow. What was the girl doing there? Or, more precisely, what was she doing opening the door? Had she simply been there for an appointment, it would have still been Wong opening the door and probably sending him away to come back later. Yet... He shivered, silently, as the thought he had been trying to ignore for days now proved itself to be real. Is he...Is he okay? he added, his voice much weaker than before as he found his short temper of the morning suddenly replaced by fear while the guilt that he had been feeling still remained strong.

He knew that the counselor had been hurt. He had been in a hospital for more than a week from what he have heard, having been thrown into the wall by a dinosaur if the rumours going around the school were true. However, the idea of him not being completely recovered by now was too difficult for him to bear, and was thus ignored, buried somewhere deep within his mind, until now, for as he faced the girl in front of him he couldn't pretend any more that everything was fine. Though, why would anybody allow a child to take care of the person hurt that badly was still beyond him.

I, uh...I also brought coffee... he said, feeling stupider by the minute, as his brain finally decided to shut down. He couldn't think properly any more, not with the guilt and silent embarrassment mixing with a burning need to see whether the man was alright, and more than probable fear that he was not. Standing beside him, Spirit suddenly had to move his paw more than once in order to save it from being crushed under William's heavy boots.

What he means to say is he said once he saw that William didn't know what else to do right now, moving to the side once more as the boy's feet moved, that he doesn't have an appointment. We were just wondering how the man was doing. he said gently, hoping that the girl won't be too scared of him to answer, though she didn't seem to mind him all that much until now.

Can we come in? he added as well, as it didn't seem that William would regain his voice any time soon. There was simply too much going on in his head right now, apparently.

Pham Thi Anh Sang (with Wong Ha Jung)

The girl crooked her head during the few moments of uncomfortable silence that came over them, wondering if she ought to send this other student away. The fact that he was asking specifically after Ha Jung's health had her torn between closing the door in his face and letting him in. After all, if Ha Jung had wanted people to help him, he probably would have asked them himself. Unless he was being Ha Jung again and didn't want to bother anybody. Which was probably the case, Anh Sang realized. Ha Jung had a tendency not to ask a lot of anybody.

"Um, okay. Things have been kind of bad with him, though," she said as she opened the door, looking from the boy to the talking wolf and back. So much for thinking that she had seen everything already. The wolf's presence still left her uncertain but the girl figured that if they cared enough to ask if Ha Jung was okay, they maybe already knew him fairly well. So things would probably be fine. Yes? Well, in any case, they might be able to help him more than she could. "I'll go and wake him up, I guess."

Returning to Ha Jung's side, Anh Sang frowned worriedly to see that he still was dead asleep. The three of them really hadn't been bothering to keep their voices down, either. Staring somewhat indecisively at his face, the girl poked him in the neck. He didn't move so she poked him again, this time with greater force, calling for him in Japanese. She felt a little bad for disturbing him but at least she had a good reason for it, right?

Eventually, with a few more pokes, she saw his face twitch. "Please stop„," the man murmured sleepily without opening his eyes. Just for that, Anh Sang felt compelled to give him another poke to make sure that he wasn't going to fall right back asleep on her.

"You should wake up now," she told him. "Somebody's here to see you and I let them in. So, um. You should wake up, okay?"

There was a moment and then his eyes snapped open. "Oh." He blinked confusedly at the ceiling before looking in her direction. "Anh Sang, didn't you already lea- ah, hello, William." Though the sleepy, not-entirely-there tone remained in his voice, there was also a strange note came with the greeting. Like something had alarmed him but it wasn't completely registering.

Yeah. William said quietly as he stepped into the office, still clutching, a bit desperately, at the plastic bag in which the coffee he had brought threatened to spill itself any second now. I've kind of presumed as much. Following after the girl as she went deeper into the Wong's office, he suddenly froze mid step, looking back at the door. Would you mind if the door stayed opened? he asked, thinking how Warrior could be here any second. The creature had for some reason agreed to go back to his room and leave/pick up some of his books without much fuss, which probably meant that he knew that had he left William to do it himself, he would have probably lost his courage, and accidentally forgot to come to the Office at all. He had left for the dorms almost at the same time William headed to the Infirmary, which meant that he couldn't be far behind.

Ah, you don't have to... he started to say as he heard the girl say that he would go to wake up the counselor. We could have waited. he sighed, his shoulder dropping as the coffee quietly hit the nearest flat surface that wasn't the floor, but there was no one but Spirit to hear him say that, as he girl was already by Wong's side, waking the man up.

Hi, doc. William said awkwardly as the man greeted him, his voice still a bit out of it from sleeping. How... he started to ask 'How are you?', going through the motions of usual greetings without thinking, but managing to bit himself on the tongue just in time. The kid let me in. he said, pointing to Anh Sang. I hope...I hope that's alright. I just wanted to see how you were doing, that's all. remembering the plastic back sitting somewhere near his arm, he quickly took it as an excuse to shift his eyes from Wong. I, uh, I also brought coffee. he muttered, feeling so much out of place that he was in Australia by now, and not even Spirit's soft muzzle against his hand helped that. So, uh, yeah...

Wong Ha Jung (with Pham Thi Anh Sang)

His mind felt numb but maybe that was from spending most of the week asleep. At least he could feel the rest of his body today. That was good, Wong Ha Jung thought, even though the pain was still getting through his medication. It was supposed to take a while to work anyways. By... Friday or something like that. Maybe. What day is it anyways? he wondered sleepily, before deciding that he didn't care enough to really get an answer.

Frowning slightly, the counselor sat up slowly, looking from Anh Sang to William and back. The motion still made him feel a little dizzy but it didn't make him feel like he was going to pass out so it was tolerable. He adjusted the glasses still on his face in a half-hearted swatting motion. "What was I- oh. Right." There was something about William being there that seemed ridiculously illogical to him but it didn't stop his mind from just accepting the boy's presence, even though there was something in the back of his mind telling him that he should get his act together and stop worrying people.

Ignoring the boy for the moment, Wong Ha Jung turned to the other student instead. "Anh Sang, didn't you already leave earlier?" he said dreamily with half lidded eyes. "Or is it already the next day...?" He couldn't really find it in himself to be bothered if it was, although he had a vague feeling that he should really go back to his apartment one of these days. Maybe just for a shower and a change of clothes. Maybe. It sounded like too much work and he really wasn't up to traveling that far. He didn't like being the wheelchair much, either, which was why it was folded up in the far corner of the room.

His eyes wandered to the direction that William seemed to be glancing in, not entirely processing what the boy was muttering. He blinked a few times, as he looked at whatever it was. "Oh. Oh, thank you," he said as it slowly began to register. "That's -I... I didn't want to be too much of a bother. Sorry..." He closed his eyes for a few moments, actually almost dozing off again before Anh Sang spoke up.

"Um, are you okay?"

"I'm fine," he said automatically, right on the very end of her question. "Don't let me keep you here, all right? I'm sure you've got better things to be doing." He smiled at her, trying to be reassuring, but he was just so tired that he lost most of the motivation shortly afterwards. "I'm just a little tired, that's all."

She looked at him with worry and something like accusation, although Wong Ha Jung couldn't fathom why. "You're older than me so you should tell him to go home," the girl told William. "He won't listen to me and sometimes he just doesn't remember it either. So-!" But she still went to leave, anyways, because even if Anh Sang felt responsible for things that she shouldn't have been responsible for, she at least could see when somebody would have better luck.

Wong Ha Jung stared uncomprehendingly at her back as she left, leaving the door open a few inches as she did. There was a throbbing sensation beginning in his head now that he was somewhat awake. Wincing, he gripped the back of his neck.

"Sorry, is something the matter?" he asked William, remembering suddenly that oh, I have a job. He grimaced as he moved his legs off of the couch and into a more natural sitting position. "I've been kind of... out of it... this month..."

It hurt. He wasn't sure why, or if his chest should really hurt so much for someone he barely knew, yet that didn't stop the dull ache he had felt in the pit of his stomach, and somewhere around his heart, when he had seen man sitting sleepily in his chair. Maybe it was a general thing, a sympathy for all humans broken, he thought, before he scoffed at himself internally, barely managing not to laugh. He was never prone to the feelings like that, which is why he was more inclined to believe the small voice in the back of his head that has kept repeating for days now: [Maybe it is because he was the first one to ever offer us his help.

Yeah, that sounded about right. And maybe that was also why the whole of it felt wrong as well, seeing the man without his pink hair, and so much out of it all. He didn't want it to be like that, he realised, tightening his grip on the plastic, white cup that was still the sole focus of his attention, gripping it so firmly that he could feel the dulled heat of the coffee beneath. He knew that if he griped too tight, the plastic would break, and the hot liquid would spill all over his hand, but he had too much thoughts in his head to pay attention to a burn that he would only probably get as well.

He was brought back to the real world by the little girl's voice saying something about telling Wong to go home before she left. It was something to focus on, so he pushed whatever idiocy that was cooking up in his head aside, and frowned down at his hand, extending it.

Here. he said, putting one of the cups near Wong's hand as he grabbed the other for himself. The taste was bitter, and strong, the liquid burning against his tongue and throat even though it had time to cool. Drink up. he said, as he got the better half of his own drink down his throat. And, no, everything is fine. Well, as fine as it can be with me. he said, giving a small, crooked smile. I kept my word, no fights. Just a few unfortunate attempts. he laughed a bit, but it quickly melted away. I just, uh, I just wanted to see how you were doing, doc. he said, finally raising his eyes to look at the man. I heard about what happened, and yeah. he said, his free hand finding its way into his hair. A nervous habit.

Sorry I didn't come by earlier. he added, nursing his now empty cup. So, uh...what did she mean? he asked, indicating towards the cracked door, which still had to see Warrior come through it. About telling you to go home? Have you spent the night here? It felt both awkward and perfectly alright to ask questions as...personal...as these, the latter probably the result of the fact that he had been told by someone to ask them, even if that someone was a probably-ten-year-old girl. It was another idiocy his brain decided to cook up, and he decided to ignore it. He could feel awkward, and stupid and out of place as much as he wanted when he left. Or tomorrow. Or never if he could manage it. Right now, he had something to do. Kind of. Probably...

Are you sure you're alright? he wanted to ask but it never made it past his tongue.

Wong Ha Jung

He took the cup hesitantly, trying to judge if the weak feeling in his hands would cause it to just fall through and into his lap. It didn't, thankfully, but he didn't put much faith in it staying that way. It seemed like his clumsiness had multiplied since getting out of the hospital. His body just wasn't working the way he wanted it to, constantly dropping things and stumbling around and feeling dizzy whenever he wasn't lying down. It was frustrating but being upset over it took energy and Wong Ha Jung just couldn't spare that.

So he settled for simply feeling resigned as he brought the cup to his lips with shaking hands. He didn't really drink coffee but at that moment, he would have drank poison if somebody had handed it to him. In any case, at least the bitterness was waking him up some more, so that he could actually concentrate on what William was saying.

"It's all right," Wong Ha Jung said softly. "I only just got out this week anyways." As much as the man wanted to smile like he normally did, it wasn't working out very well. He took a long sip from his coffee instead, getting used to the idea of having to think again. "It wasn't so bad. Lydia came in to visit." That last part slipped out without him intending for it to so but since it seemed important, he let it be.

"Oh, I came in on Monday. I meant to go back to my apartment eventually but never got around to it." He shrugged, mind still not processing that the fact could possibly be perceived as alarming to anybody. Sighing into his cup, he muttered, "It's just too far away."

Still... he said at the Wong's comment about just coming out of the hospital anyway, glad to hear that at least the man wasn't all alone in there. Not that he thought that he would be, simply because someone like him wouldn't visit him, it was just... It was just that he had about a hundred thoughts in his head causing him to feel either guilty or confused, neither of which he wanted to feel right now, so he just let them slide through his mind, deciding that they didn't matter. He would deal with them later, if he absolutely had to. And wasn't that just a perfect picture of mental health? he laughed ironically.

And then, for some reason, the counsellor's last statement sent a cold chill right through his bones, making him shiver as if he were cold, despite the warmth of the coffee spreading through his body now that he had more than half of the cup running through his veins. It was eerily logical, in a way that made William think about thousand and twenty seven ways in which it was wrong as well. It wasn't right. It simply wasn't.

You should still go back. he said carefully, still unsure of the idea of him telling the man what to do. It appeared to be necessary though, so he simply bit into his cheek, keeping nervousness at bay, and kept going. You can't just stay here, can you? he asked, looking around. You need food. And bed. A shower and a fresh set of clothing. he thought to himself, as he frowned at the man.

I'll help you get back if you want. he added, still somehow sure that this wasn't going to end well.

Ah, sorry about this, it's late and weird. I just had a few chaotic days with school starting again and couldn't focus properly, but things appear to be calming down, so I should be replying more regularly...though I can't promise anything about actually, you know, quality. Apologies, again.

Wong Ha Jung

He frowned a little at his cup as he felt a headache start to creep out of hiding at full force. At least he had taken the painkillers for it earlier. Or maybe not? Time was running by him so strangely -quickly and slowly at the same time. The counselor glanced towards his desk, where he knew there was a paper with the times he had taken medication at. But it was possible that he had forgotten to write down a few times so even that otherwise hard evidence was unreliable.

“No, no, I’m fine,” Wong Ha Jung said softly, automatically going to familiar denials. “It’s nice of you to offer but it-” But it looked badly on him to have to rely on a student just to him back to where he was staying, the man was going to say. But since he didn’t have that high of an opinion about himself, he faltered, even though the words would have sounded so casual and natural. “It’s supposed to be the other way around,” he offered tiredly instead. “I’m supposed to be looking after you.”

And I’m doing a terrible job of it, I know, I know. He drank deeply from his coffee, because if he didn’t, it would have shown on his face just how displeased he was with himself. “I’ll get back eventually,” Wong Ha Jung said when he looked back up, wincing from the headache. “I guess, maybe later? If I go back now, I would probably call in sick for a week and I’ve already missed so many appointments…”

He sucked on his lip for a short while and felt it crack and bleed as he did so. It tasted awful, so he just wiped it off onto his wrist. It gave him something else to concentrate on, too, instead of William or Spirit. “I need to be here right now.” If he had any pride in him, the man might have been ashamed of how the tone of that simple phrase sounded as if he were begging. “Nobody’s told me anything about what’s happened to Oliver Breckenridge at all, except that I’m going to have to meet with him eventually. So I need to stay here and wait and not be useless and everything else, it can be put on hold. I don’t mind. It’s fine. It’s what I’m getting paid for.” I’m not worth more than the people I’m supposed to help. Certainly not all of them combined.

And truthfully? Wong Ha Jung was terrified. It was ridiculous to be so scared of a child not even in his teens, a child that he knew to be typically soft spoken and good natured and kind based on Anh Sang’s accounts. Even though he trusted in her, he couldn’t help but feel a little panicked at the thought of having to sit down with him. It was such a vile, stupid feeling, not wanting to help somebody who he knew needed it. But thinking that still wouldn’t make it go away.

He laughed nervously in a moment of weakness, nursing his cup and saying, “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, William, except not fail.” He didn’t think he was allowed to, and every single time he slipped hurt. That was what he got for living so long in daydreams. Utterly unrealistic standards.
