As the program came to the part about Jimmy Paige, Sora found himself walking around the class, watching the reactions of his students. One in particular caught his attention. He pulled up a chair next to Krys and spoke quietly.

"You know, I used to hum like that. Eventually it led to singing, which led me into my career. If you ever want to try it, let me know."

After a few minutes, he walked around again, and decided to sit near the program chair.

"So, how do you like the class so far? I might not be the best instructor for this class, but I felt that I needed to impart my knowledge to the next generation. Besides, it's not often that an opportunity like this comes along. If you'd like to talk after this, there's a wonderful coffee shop not to far from here."

Paschalis de Santis

More and more, Paschalis was starting to remember why he never liked school. Oh sure, he could study well enough to beat the average on exams but just sitting there in a room everyday was boring as hell. He didn't know how much he had actually learned in class, but he wasn't going to be optimistic that it had been any more than what could be stuffed into a broiler. Maybe less. Probably less. But if anybody bothered to let the material cook down long enough, it would do.

Really, though. Self study. They were two of the most beautiful words in his academic vocabulary. Paschalis just didn't just classrooms. No matter how they were done up, they all still felt fake and plastic.

As the younger teacher went about the room, Paschalis idly glanced his way from time to time. It wasn’t like he had any input for this part of the class –music wasn’t even his field. But when the man went to Professor Silivasi, Paschalis decided that it seemed like a good time to go over and add in the two cents that he did have.

“Try not to lay it on too thick with the heroics,” he said quietly in a bland voice, catching only part of their conversation. He dipped his head to Silivasi before turning back to the other man. “No matter what kind of reaction you want –fear or appreciation, that kind of thing is a mixed basket here. It might work better for people who actually have powers similar to what you were describing. Everybody else, it probably wouldn’t do as well.”

Faye quickly shut her notebook when she noticed that he began to walk around the room. To be honest videos bored her, and she hadn't paid any attention to it. Whoever was on the screen at the moment she couldn't even begin to guess his name. Hopefully he wouldn't question them on what had happened, if so, she'd fail.

She absolutely loved music and especially singing, but she just couldn't bring herself to sing in front of anyone. It was too hard for her to.

Faye put her chin and her hand and pretended to watch the video. She wasn't sure how anyone watched videos like sometimes. She figured some videos were more interesting than others though. She couldn't really complain though, this class didn't seem to be too difficult. Well, at least not yet.

Sora's words snapped Krys back to the world, making him realize what he had been doing. He blushed deeply, focusing on the movie that was playing. He couldn't believe he'd been humming his favorite music in the middle of class. He wasn't sure why he was so embarrassed, perhaps that he had been in public and had done it.

And as for singing? He'd have to start talking first. Sure, he'd sing the lyrics to his favorite songs to himself, but they weren't his. Someone else had come up with them, the beat and the instruments and the lyrics. All Krystopher was doing was singing a pale imitation of their greatness. It would only be fair to create one of his own, but how would he even start such a thing?

His mind started to wander again, thinking of how to make his own song. He would have to find something that made him feel strongly, he thought. Maybe he could put that feeling into words, something to tell the story of why he felt the way he did. He shook his head, he was getting ahead of himself. He'd have to find that feeling first.

Aurora looked up from her book as the teacher finally made his way over. Not exactly what usually happened when she was around, but the mage was quite alright with a little bit of conversation.

"The opportunity is rare, I would agree. Although I've never been one for 'appreciation' courses. A lot of students tend to see them as easy ways to get credits, and I don't think I've ever seen one that actually instilled the appreciation into someone."

That wasn't to say that she didn't appreciate the effort. Far from it in fact. She simply thought that there were better uses of time for learning. On that thought, Mr. de Santis also made his presence known, being a little more forthcoming and blunt with his criticism. Well put, criticism at that. Subtlety was something that a lot of people, students and teachers alike, didn't quite get.

"I would have to agree. I'm certain that if I were to speak about my past life, I'd get more than a few stares and upset people. It's not a bad thing...but people act differently in a group than if you're spouting to a collective of like minds or an individual."

Obvious advice, but still something that even she should be reminded of once in awhile.

"Also, shouldn't you be teaching instead of talking to me?"

The mage smiled. She had never used a TV in her classroom. Starting class with one was practically a cop out.

Sora laughed a bit at the somewhat cold response from his superior.

"Sorry, just trying to get to know the people I'm working with. Maybe we can talk more later. For now, I really should attend to the class."

As the video ended, he passed out a sheet of paper to the class, concerning the video they had just watched. It was an essay prompt about what sort of musics they liked and why, as well as which musical component of the song was most appealing to them.

"This is really just a formality, but the school requires that I give you some form of homework that can be submitted to your e-portfolios. So yeah, sorry to give you so much of it."

After he finished passing this out, he made his way to the front once more.

"In closing, I will return to the subject this class started with. Music is not something that any one person can fully explain. It is something that is hardwired into us in such a way that it can have any number of meanings, any number of sources, and any number of effects. Music is an infinite variable....in mathematical terms. Music can be used to drive people apart, but at the same time it can bring people together. Music is also a constantly evolving force of nature, even when it remains the same."

And then of course there was someone he couldn't go without introducing his students to.

"Some of you may have noticed a particular guest that's been here for most of the class. Mrs. Aurora here is the department head. If you have any questions, feel free to ask myself, or her."

And then, there was the bell.

"Alright, you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here. I joke of course, I'm free to answer any questions you might have."

Paschalis de Santis

Well, he certainly felt just a bit ignored. Not that he should have been expecting differently, anyways. The new people always felt like they had to butter up to their superiors, and they always seemed so serious about their work, too. First day in and they already were trying to drop these deep, philosophical ideas onto students who most likely didn't care for anything but an easy A or were too busy by other classes to give it that much thought. Because, really. Music appreciation? No offense or anything, but that kind of class was useless in terms of academics.

Taking the empty seat next to Professor Silivasi, Paschalis tried (not very hard) to listen to whatever it was this teacher was going on about now. Maybe it was because he felt slightly brushed off, but the amount of interest he had had decreased by a few degrees. Yeah, yeah, whatever. None of us are that important anyways.

It was almost a relief when the bell rang. As he got up to leave, however, he was suddenly struck by a thought. "Professor, have you seen Itou lately?" Because Paschalis sure hadn't, and it seemed like neither had anybody else. It wasn't like he actually cared about the man but it sure made it easier to deal with students in his power classes once they stopped worrying overly strict economics teachers who seemed to have this life mission of ruining people's days. "I get the impression that he's quit."
