Henley Riddle glared at the bright sun as he stepped off the boat that had take him to Manta Carlos. He was so not in the mood to deal with people. Of course, he was never in the mood to deal with people, but today more so than ever before.

He had thought he'd been excited to attend Starlight Academy, but he had barely been on the island for three minutes before he started missing hid Da and Pa. Thankfully, he had Bamboo to cheer him up. He slid a slender finger through the cage to pet said bunny's head, then rearranged the rolling suitcase and rabbit case so he could walk a bit easier.

Despite his less-than-stellar mood, even he could admit the first glimpse of Starlight Academy was impressive. The buildings looked beautiful, especially against the backdrop of the beautiful island and beach. Absentmindedly thinking back to where his Pa had told him to go, he started on his way towards the Administration building, scowling at everything and anything he could see as he closed in on the office. Hopefully, he wouldn't have an episode, but his narcolepsy was finicky. He'd just have to hope he'd get to his assigned dorm room before falling asleep where he stood.

She missed the fun noise of her flip flops hitting her heels. Instead, she had to hear the boring clicking of her school shoes against the academy halls. Oh well, she was on her way back to her dorm to change anyway. Avian would soon be walking along the seaside with her flip flops full of sand and her sun dress flowing in the breeze. As she walked along in her dreaming state, she suddenly snapped back to reality when she saw...

"A bunny!" she quietly gasped to herself.

A couple yards away was a person she had never seen before at the academy. Although, that wasn't saying much. She only made an appoint to remember a few students' faces in the school. He had a pet rabbit in a cage that Avian desperately wanted to pet! The animal's owner looked thoroughly disgruntled though, so Avian decided to keep her distance. Instead, she leaned up against the wall and watched the rabbit with her one visible eye, the other one covered by her long, white hair.

Henley grumbled to himself about everything and anything one could mutter irritably about. He was eager to get out of the bright sun and safely to his dorm, but apparently, it wasn't meant to be.

He hadn't even taken ten steps forward before he had one of his 'episodes'. All motion suddenly ceased, though his power seemed to coalesce in the air to make sure the boy didn't fall over or drop the cage that held Bamboo. It appeared to the casual observer that Henley just froze in his place. Had someone actually been watching or had been closer to him, they would see that he was sleeping, of all things.

Of course, this would only last a few moments, but it was a huge bother and sore point for Henley, who had grown used to being very independent during his isolation in the orphanage.

{{I apologize in advance if I'm not portraying narcolepsy correctly! I'm no doctor ;;;}}

Avian was so busy admiring the cute, little rabbit, she barely notice its owner had frozen. She froze too, worrying he had spotted her. He didn't seem to be looking right at her and when she looked around, didn't see anyone else for him to be staring down. Carefully, she approached, suspiciously eyeing his motionless body. If she didn't know any better, she'd say he were about to jump out of his frozen form and try to scare her! But as she neared him, she heard a steady breathing coming from him. Almost as if he were...asleep?

Looking around once again, she looked for some sort of logical explanation. Did someone hit him with a sleeping dart, and even if they did, how was he still standing? He was a foot taller than her, making her have to look up to see his sleeping face. Reaching her hand up to his eyes, she waved her hand back and forth in front of him.

"Hello in there?" she asked at barely a whisper.

She pondered going to get someone. Maybe one of her power teachers would know what to do!

As the stranger panicked around him, Henley slept on, oblivious to Avian's worry. Several moments that felt like an eternity later, however, he awoke with a soft snort, shaking his head as he tried to reorient himself as quickly as possible; he loathed being dazed after an episode. As such, he didn't notice Avian at all.

Once he regained his composure, the invisible soul energy-- though Henley himself could see it swirl around him before seeming to dive right into his chest-- returned to its owner's body, allowing him to stand on his own two feet again. It was only then he noticed Avian and her obviously fight-or-flight posture.

"Who the fuck are you?" He growled, easily taking out his frustrations with his narcolepsy on the girl in front of him. Such an attitude had become second nature to him, and while his adoptive parents were working on gentling it, he still had a tendency to snap at others. Especially if this girl had seen him during an episode, which was always a running fear of embarrassment for Henley.

"Who the fuck are you?"

His words made poor Avian flinch, being sensitive to swear words. She had grown up in a relatively swear free environment, being exposed to cursing much later than most people. Her mother never swore and her dad only did so when Avian wasn't around. She didn't have many friends at home to teach her swear words and her mom censored any shows with cursing. It wasn't until the year before she came to the academy that she learned a few of these words, but she never used them herself. So being sworn at was not something she was used to.

"A-ah...I'm Avian," she stuttered, staring down at her school shoes, "And...well you fell asleep and I was just wondering if you were ok,"

Her words came tumbling out very quickly and shakily as she desperately tried to explain herself. His growling face made her take a few steps back, putting her hands up in defense. She almost wished he had stayed asleep so this wouldn't be happening!

"ButIcanseenowthatyou'refinesoI'lljustgo," she muttered quickly, her frantic words barely audible.

Though there was always a sleepy look in his dark gray eyes, Henley's sharp gaze didn't miss the girl's flinch. Underneath the whole layer of irritable snark, he felt somewhat bad about it, but didn't bother apologizing. He did, however, wave away the introduction.

"I am fine, though I do not need your concern, Miss Avian." He murmured, tone brusque and straight to the point. He then added, almost as an afterthought, "My name is Henley Riddle."

He could clearly see that Avian was getting very worked up, and again, he felt a distant stab of guilt. He pushed that all to the side, though, or at least, tried to.

"Yes, well, goodbye now." With that, he spared a moment to make sure he had a good grip on his bag and Bamboo's cage before starting forward again. He hesitated a split second, muttering a grumbly 'thanks' in Avian's direction before he started striding away, acting as if he hadn't just thanked the girl that had only wanted to help but now looked ready to bolt, like a small animal in the face of a predator.

He didn't need my concern. Avian, you idiot! Stop forcing yourself into other people's lives! She mentally scolded herself.

Still, he had cared enough to give her his name. Henley. Avian like the name, it sounded like Henry but had a neat little twist at the end. Then, Henley moved past her, sending a cold chill through her. Being ignored. Well, it was something she was used to. But she had been so sociable the past few days, she had almost forgot her usual place in the world: invisible.

The way he left her was a good reminder of this. She may have had one friend, but that was it. One friend didn't give you the right to be noticed. So she turned to watch him go, her sapphire eyes staring longingly at the rabbit. Watching, observing, and never engaging. She knew that was her place.

"Bunny..." she whispered to herself as she watched him go.

Henley did his best to tune out the chiding voice of his parents-- parents, that was still somewhat of a novel idea to the former orphan—, wondering if he had been too harsh on the girl. He frowned faintly, glancing down at his little furry companion, then let out a soft 'tch' before continuing on his trek towards the Academy. It wouldn't do to be late for check in, and he wasn't sure how many more episodes he'd have before he managed to get to his dorm.

Despite this, he did keep part of his thoughts on the poor girl he'd met. Next time they met, if they did indeed cross paths again, he'd be a bit nicer. Maybe he'd even prepare a little lunch for her, his pa always did that when he got on his da's nerves a bit too much and wanted to apologize.

((Sorry if it's a bit short ;;; ))
