Søren Jørgensen

Søren scowled as he opened the door to his mostly undecorated dorm room, notice from the Admissions Office clenched in his hand. Hi Søren! Blah, blah, blah. Something about education at the Academy only being free if he spent at least three days of every week in on campus residence. For his particular age group, anyways. Apparently once he hit sixteen, then nobody gave a crap anymore about where he lived. In the attic, in the forest, in a cardboard box. Nope, didn't matter then. Good Lord.

With him were two large pieces of wheeled luggage, a probably overstuffed dufflebag on his back, and his shoulder bag. The weight of all of it almost made him tip over but there was no way he was going to go and ask some random person for help. Besides, it's not that bad, Søren thought to himself, wheezing a little as he dragged himself over to the window side bed. Neither part of the room seemed to have been claimed yet by his mysterious and still completely unmet roommate. Not that he particularly minded that. I can take care of myself.

Dumping his dufflebag on top of the mattress, Søren sighed in relief and went to claim the nearest desk. His first real course of action was to take out all of his electronics -laptop, second laptop, tablet, second tablet, many cellphones but not his wand- and plug them in to charge.

He worried a little about his roommate being overly curious but comforted himself with the fact that there were some of the best protection locks on all of it. Electric shocks for putting in the wrong passwords at the wrong times helped keep people out rather effectively. And if that wasn't enough, well. It was kind of hard to see what was on a computer if the hard drives were all removed.

Satisfied that he had taken appropriate measures, Søren began to unpack.

God what a terrible situation miss Mordrake now found herself in. For the entirety of her life at Starlight Academy she had lived in style. Tucked away in a massive penthouse complex in her specter lair, Alice had spend her days in comfort and excess. Servants and maids cleaned her every mess; meals where prepared exclusively by the world's finest chefs. The furniture was expensive and the gadgets where top of the line. Just the kind of life Alice was so accustom to and now it had all come crashing down with one awful notice delivered to her courtesy of the school.

Alice stormed through the halls, huffing and puffing like a certain enraged wolf as a Yata unit flew by her side. In her right hand she clenched that crumpled up notice, squeezing it tightly as if to choke the life out of it. Damn this school! Making me stay in some smelly old dorm! If I catch as much as the common cold I'll make them suffer in court! Alice thought to herself as she walked town the hallways. Curiously, there was no luggage with her....but instead one of her infamous Yata-Garasu units, flying invisibly beside her ready to port in her massive pile of luggage via portal when she arrived in the room. Of course, while she dreaded the peasant furniture, tiny cramped space, chemical-filled factory-made carpet and general filth she was libel to encounter in the dorm...the big unknown was her roommate. In a way, she was actually looking forward to seeing who it was. She knew this person never showed up just like her...so that admittedly had her curious. They -could- be somebody powerful...useful, even. Or they could be an annoying liability that Alice would have to mind-hack on sight. Either way, the roommate was the least of Alice's worries right now...all she cared about was that, for at least a few weeks, she had to live like everybody else....the poor thing.

As she rounded the corner and approached her room Alice took a deep sigh. Alright...maybe you'll have a useful roommate.....I pray to haruhi that I have a useful roommate...yeah...I WILL have a useful roommate! Alice said to herself, trying to make the fact she had to -live- here less painful. Taking a deep breath she slowly pushed open the door to find Soren among all his equipment and she smiled a bit. Thank you haruhi. That's why I pray to you and not that other God....you always come through! Alice thought to herself as she eyed his top of the line technology. With a quick mental command, the Yata Unit with her dropped it's invisibility and perched on the top of her bedpost. Deciding to introduce herself, Alice turned to Soren.

"I don't mean to interrupt or anything, but if we're going to be living togther for the next few weeks I think we should introduce ourselves. My name is Alice Mordrake!. Also...don't be alarmed by my little friend over there...he's just here to deliver my stuff! It dose it in a weird way...so please don't be freaked out.." Alice said motioning to her Yata Unit.

With that the bird's mechanical red-eyes lit up and a pile of luggage slowly materialized into existence on her bed. She started to slowly unpack the first bag but kept her attention on Soren, continuing the conversation..

"So, whats your name?" Alice asked politely.

Søren Jørgensen

Søren turned to the door as he heard it opening, resigned to the fact that he was probably going to have an idiot roommate. It really would be just his luck. Upon actually catching sight of said roommate, he was convinced that it had happened, too. She was, from his observations, just a silly, over energetic girl. Blonde, too, because no matter what anybody said about stereotypes and everything, Søren knew that more often than not, they were right on the money. But then the very next moment, there was a shift in the light and a high tech, avian robot perched itself on her bedpost.

Suddenly, Søren was intrigued. He listened absently as his roommate introduced herself but really, that robot had all of his attention. Now where did she get something like that? More importantly, where could he get himself one of those? Greedy for information, the boy looked straight into the machine's code, a glowing, tightly wound ribbon of symbols that orbited around it. It was too far away for him to copy directly right that moment but he could always write it down later when he had the time.

And -woah. That thing can create hammerspaces, too? Okay, he definitely had to figure out how to get one of those. "Oh, I'm Søren. Søren Jørgensen. Nice to meet you, I guess," he said absently. "That's a nice unit you have there. Where'd you get it from?"

What the heck? He frowned at the mysterious robot as its code came out to be a bunch of gibberish. What's all of this crap? Maybe he was reading it wrong? No, of course not! He was sure that he was looking at it the right way! It was just that that thing had something seriously wrong with it.

Clearly, this boy was impressed with Alice's technology. Of course, most people who encountered it where, as Specter's otherworldly machines where far above what earth could normally produce...and this was for a good reason; Specter's technology had the aid of extraplanar resources. Heh...so I have something I can use after all....I just gotta be sure not to let this kid know I'm also a planar dictator. I guess I can tell him -some- of the truth... Alice thought to herself as the young boy asked her about the Yata Unit.

Smiling a bit, Alice proceeded to address Soren's question after removing her laptop from it's case and setting it on a table beside her bed. "Nice to meet you Soren!" Alice said in a gleeful tone before extending her hand. The Yata unit quickly flew from it's perch and landed gracefully on Alice's outstretched arm, gazing at Soren with it's emotionless red mechanical eyes. "Well...sadly you can't buy one of these even if your rich. You see, I designed this little bird and all his friends myself!" Alice said to Soren with a big grin.

"Now, if you have any other questions about him, feel free to ask, but before you do, could you answer a question of mine? If you can tell me, I'd like to know what you use that equipment of yours for? I can recognize high end tech when I see it and what you have certainly isn't for schoolwork. Don't worry, if it's some kind of secret it's safe to say around me...I won't tell anybody" Alice said as she began to worm her way into Soren's mind, attempting to make him trust her. The all too familiar game had begun!

For a moment, he stared at her uncomprehending, looking from the blonde haired girl to the robot and back. What. His mind just couldn't wrap around her words. Sure, Søren had been prepared for unusual brilliance at the Academy -he was part of that, after all- but somebody as young as this Alice girl with something as high tech as that? That's stupidly ridiculous. He didn't know whether he was supposed to believe her or laugh her out of the room.

Unbelievably, however, Søren found himself leaning more towards taking her at her word. The more he thought about it, the more reasonable it seemed. Once again, he was a genius and he was at the Academy. Obviously this girl was also a genius. And thus at the Academy. And that didn't mean that she was smarter than him or anything. Maybe she just got lucky. Or she thought a little differently so she could make things that he couldn't copy. Maybe her powers helped her in inventing the same way that Søren's helped him. Yeah, that's probably it, he thought with some relief. He didn't like thinking that people could be smarter than him. It was fine if adults were but there was a problem if they were kids.

Satisfied with his reasoning, the boy answered Alice's question. "Oh, I use it for lots of things," he said casually, with a clear tone of arrogance. "I'm an inventor, too, I guess. I mainly do coding, though. And hacking. I can hack almost anything." The almost was a really sour point for him, compounded by the fact that he still had no idea what that robot was.

And for that matter, he wasn't sure what were all of those codes around Alice either. Usually codes took on a rather neat looking appearance in his side. Not these ones, though. Some of them were kind of organized but for the most part, they were all over the place. Søren went ahead and memorized all of them, hating a mystery. It was probably nothing, though. Plenty of people who thought too much -or daydreamed too much- had tons of unnecessary codes around them.

He rolled his eyes and added, "Oh and I do other things, too. It's not that major. Just odd jobs and all." The necessity of secrecy kept him from saying much else on it right then but without knowing why he was doing it, he had left an opening for further questions about it.

In inventor, a hacker, and a master of "odd jobs." This Soren boy certainly intrigued the young dictator, to say the least. Of course, he was leaving out a lot of infomation....but that didn't mean Alice wasen't aware of that. In fact, right now, Alice was reading the boy's mind like an open book, pouring over all the infomation she could ever need on her new roomate. Yes...you are a fun kid, Soren....thats for sure! Your power...it's so useful...and those odd jobs of yours are just the kind of thing I would pay for! Alice thought to herself as she poured examined all the thoughts and details of Soren's mind as a stream of data before her. Indeed, while Soren can hack objects, Alice herself was also a hacker...though her target was the human mind. Heh...I could come right out and tell him what I found..but that could scare him off...handle this with tact, Alice....this boy could be useful!" Alice continued to think to herself as she scanned through the stream of mental data before her.

In the outside world, Alice's amber eyes lit up with excitement as Soren mentioned that he himself was another inventor. Ooh! Ooh! You invent stuff too!? COOL!" she said, her tone excited and energetic. " It's rare to meet a person with that kind of intellect here at the acadamy...I mean...we're all pretty special, but sometimes I feel so lonely being the only one who knows how to build cool things like Yata here!" Alice continued as the robotic bird flapped it's mechanical wings in approval. "hold on for a second!" Alice exclaimed as she carefully set her Yata unit down to perch on a bedpost. Sitting down on her bed Alice took a quick second to adjust her bunny-eared hat and then withdrew her own laptop from it's black case. It was clearly -expensive- equipment, even more so then Soren's, and to anybody literate in the world of technology it was painfully clear that this machine was custom-built and made of the most high end parts one could obtain. Of course, as expected, Alice had the gall to plaster several stickers; two anime chibis and one anime-style bunny, all across the otherwise pristine device. She quickly opened it up and it automatically came to life. She begain to gracefully type away on the keyboard; her delicate fingers moving with the precision of a seasoned programer.

"As a fellow inventor, you seem like you could be an interesting person to keep in touch with, Soren! I'm just opening up some files to take down contact infomation, that is if you don't mind sharing..." Alice continued to say happily. "Oh...and there is one more thing..you mentioned odd jobs..could you elaborate on that? You see, I am involved heavily with the corporate world, believe it or not, and I could actually use somebody willing to do some small tasks for me." She continued to say as she looked up an Soren from her bed.

"Hey, how old are you anyways?" He eyed Alice's laptop jealously, noting that it was at least a hundred times more advance than those on the current market. His own was maybe only ten times more. I bet she's older than me. I could probably make something like that, too, if I had a year or two. It's not that hard, it just takes time. Sure, it was complex stuff but Søren was certain that anything this girl knew, he could certainly figure out as well. At the sight of the terrible, awful stickers, the boy cringed. Older than me and immature, older than me and immature. God, he really hoped so anyways. That was the only way he could keep his own dignity perfectly intact.

"Oh, well, I suppose I could give you my information," the boy said after a moment of thought, trying to figure out which batch of fake information he should give out. "We're kind of roommates, though, so. I guess we're kind of stuck together anyways." He waved his notification paper in annoyance, frowning at Alice's next words.

"Corporate, huh? So your parents are CEO's, then?" That was the only connection that Søren could logically see. Genius or not, he was pretty sure that no real company would hire a kid for, well. Anything real. It was stupid but that was just how life went. "Yeah, well. You know, I'm not sure corporate would like the things I do very much. It's kind of low key, you know. Freelance work, really. People tell me what they want me to do and do it, with a deposit up front and no questions asked."

He shrugged. "I could do small things if you want me to, but you're going to have to be much more specific about it." Although he really didn't know what she could possibly as for. If she was on the same level as him, then he didn't know why she couldn't just do whatever it was herself. Maybe she was just lazy.

I like lazy people, the boy thought wistfully. They can never catch up.

It figured the boy would be curious about Alice's age. From looking into his mind it was quite clear that he had an ego to match Alice's own, and it would certainly be -embarissing- for the boy to be on-upped by his peer. Thankfully for Soren, though, Alice was older then him by two years, and she wasn't shy about stating that, either.

"I'm 14!" Alice exclaimed happily. Of course...Soren had to ask about her family. Really? He's never heard of the Mordrake family? Does this kid live under a rock or something!? Alice thought to herself when he asked about her parents. How could he NOT know about her family. Her father was only the richest man in the world. On the cover of forbes multible times. Always on the news, being consulted for advice by politicians, many of whom where his bought and sold pawns. Of course, what nobody knew was that this man who was an icon of wealth and sucssess was Also Alice's perfect little pawn, mind-hacked into being fanatically loyal to his "lovely little girl" but what the world dosen't know will most certainly hurt it...and thats just the way Alice wanted it.

"Your pretty perceptive! Yes, my father and mother are both business leaders. You may have heard of my family...the Mordrakes. My daddy is pretty famous, you know...he's kinda the richest person in the world right now!" Alice boasted, pride swelling up in her as she mentioned her father's significant fortune. "However...I'm sure he'd be perfectly fine with what you do. He's pretty ruthless, when it comes down to business." She continued on. Of course, his ruthlessness was something he possessed before Alice's control. He was after all, a member of SPECTER before his daughter was even born, though Alice certainly had managed to -increase- that ruthlessness a bit through her mental meddling.

"As for specifics, well, I'd need you to gather information for me, since you seem to be a pretty decent hacker. I have plenty of jobs for you, trust me on that. My father's always looking for information about the supernatural...and right now he is concerned about an individual on this Island named Joshua. Of course, he has other concerns too, and if you don't mind I'd like to act as his proxy and hire you for multiple jobs...as in when an offer comes up, I give you pay and you go to work. No questions asked...just like you're used to. So if you'd be interested, just say so and I can give you more info." Alice continued.

The feeling of triumph at hearing that Alice really was older than him quickly faded away as she went on about her family. "O-oh! You mean you're part of that Mordrake family?" The boy knew the Mordrake name but there was no reason for him to have assumed that Alice had any particular connection to that exact family. Quite honestly, however, the family still did not weigh especially heavily on him. After all, Søren was from Denmark, and the Mordrakes were American. Even if Mordrake manufactured technology was fairly widespread, there would always be this feeling of being an outsider.

Being unbelievably wealthy, though, was an entirely different story. That, Søren could appreciate and the thought of a person with so much money just being in the same room as him made his head spin. She could have probably bought the island a thousand times over already. Without doing anything with her life, she could have gone and done that. Meanwhile, his parents were back at home, working away at these pointless jobs that wouldn't get them anywhere and wouldn't ever make them rich. And they were okay with it. Søren just couldn't understand that mentality. He probably loved his parents but their minds were senseless to him.

Well, I'm not going to be like that! He nodded in response to what Alice was saying, now tuned to being fully compliant in her requests. There was just no way that he was going to pass up an opportunity to really rake in the money.

"I guess I can do that if your father's okay with it," Søren agreed. Truthfully, he still had his doubts about her father approving of this but he also didn't care as long as money made its way to him eventually. "Don't worry, I'll get your information as soon as possible. Do you have a surname to go on? Location? Deadline for all this?"
