Full Name: Sylvie Ella Delacroix
Age: 16
Birthday: September 29[sup]th[/sup]
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual heavily leaning toward girls. Slowing coming out of the closet.
Class: Student--High School
Appearance Description:
Sylvie is a small girl, standing at only 4’8”, and looks closer to a 13 year old than a 16 years old. She’s often mistaken for a middle schooler, much to her chagrin. She has a youthful face that is framed by a short and asymmetrical haircut. She's naturally a dirty blonde, but likes to bleach her hair lighter. Her large eyes are closer to an amber color than anything else., which she typically accentuates with a thick line of black eyeliner. Her body type is very thin--that sort of thin frame that makes people concerned that she doesn't eat enough. It annoys her to no end because her diet is fine and people need to mind their own business!
Sylvie wears a lot of black and white, with an occasional hint of color. A lot of her wardrobe comes from her brief phase as a total Goth kid, but nowadays she has been more experimental in finding her own unique style—a bit goth, a bit punk, sometimes a hint of cute. She loves belts, black and white stripes, 'cute' skulls, and garments with asymmetrical patterns or lengths.
For whatever reason, she really likes glasses. Her eyesight is fine though, so she wears them strictly for fashion.
Personality description:
Sylvie is a shy girl, but friendly once she feels comfortable enough with someone. When she first came to Starlight Academy, Sylvie basically clung to Gwynaria as much as she could so she wouldn’t be alone—but eventually she slowly began to branch out more.
Sylvie used to be very heavy into goth fashion, and the usual personality that went along with it. Her attitude changed a lot when she met, or rather summoned, Gwynaria. She’s a lot less ‘the world is awful and everyone is the worst’ to ‘maybe things aren’t so bad after all, and there are people I can enjoy spending time with.’ She enjoyed spending time with the fanciful Gwynaria, after all. So while she’s still shy, Sylvie is a bit more open to interacting with others.
She spends a lot of time with Gwynaria, even though the princely woman could be embarrassing at times and likes to tease her. Truth be told, Gwynaria had sort of become a ‘big sister’ figure to her. A strange, half-horse sister, but a sister nonetheless.
In general, Sylvie finds she tends to have older friends. She claims teens her age are too immature and annoying, with very few exceptions. Of course, Sylvie is only 16 and hardly free from the trappings of that ‘immature’ teenage thinking from time to time. She did have a ‘I am too dark for this world’ Goth phase, after all.
Powers:
Translator: Sylvie can read, speak, and comprehend any language.
Reading and comprehension are smooth sailing, but Sylvie struggles a bit when it comes to speaking in some languages. She was born with a lisp, which she has worked very hard to get over when speaking her native language. Unfortunately, it sometimes resurfaces when she has to speak in other languages. It can make her difficult to understand, and is also just embarrassing for her.
And that is it—at least for now. Sylvie believes that she has much more potential, but it has not awakened in her yet. It seems likely she will get the same abilities as her dad who can not only translate anything, but can also take any book, paper, even websites etc, and create a new copy in any language. Sylvie was interested in going to Starlight Academy in the hopes of finding more abilities within her.
Biography:
Sylvie has led a relatively normal life in Quebec, Canada—lucky to have been born with a power that was very easy to hide. The ability to translate any language was handed down by her father, so they were not dismayed over having a child with powers. If anything, they were more perturbed over Sylvie wanting to be a Wiccan instead of a Christian as she got older. Even worse, she went through the dreaded ‘Goth phase’ where she wore nothing but black and refused to ever smile in front of other people. Sylvie’s Goth phase may have partially stemmed from a frustration over her questioning her sexuality after puberty hit. Even now she remains unsure, but found herself suspecting that she may have a stronger interest in girls than in boys. The Goth phase may have also been a burning need to rebel against her parents’ Christian beliefs, which she separated herself from in favor of Wiccan beliefs.
When she was 16, a strange book appeared in her room. She had no idea where it had come from, but she was soon curious about the ancient text. She started to peek through it one night, and realized it was a long fairy tale—somewhat similar to Cinderella in some ways—and it was written in Old High German. It was beyond ancient! Sylvie became absorbed, breezing through the entire book in one night.
She found an odd poem in the back of the book, that she felt compelled to recite out loud. Despite Sylvie’s power to read and comprehend any language, actually articulating the Old High German was a struggle. She had trouble with a lisp in her speech, which she had worked very hard to eliminate when she spoke her native languages of English and French, but tended to rear up when she spoke other languages.
Nonetheless, she tried her best—and apparently her best was good enough to cause some sort of reaction from the book. The book vanished, and Sylvie met Gwynaria for the first time. She had helped Gwynaria escape the curse of the book, which had forced her to live the story’s events nonstop. However, something in Gwynaria’s reading had also caused something strange to happen: Gwynaria was three entities combined into one! She was the noble prince, the lost princess, and even the horse from the fairy tale!
It was certainly a bizarre situation, but Gwynaria just seemed happy to be broken free of the curse. Sylvie took a liking to the weird fairy tale prince-princess-horse and helped her learn about the new world Gwynaria found herself in. She was even able to convince her parents to let Gwynaria stay with them—it’s not like there was anywhere else for a hoofed woman to go!
It wasn’t long after when Sylvie received an invitation to Starlight Academy on Manta Carlos Islands. Sylvie was very interested in attending, as she felt there was more potential in her powers that she perhaps needed to some help in realizing. She also realized that it could be the one opportunity Gwynaria would have to actually have some sort of a life not stuck in the same house. So, Sylvie reached out to the academy to explain Gwynaria’s situation, and soon enough she too had an invitation.
The two made the journey to Manta Carlos Islands together—both eager to start their new lives in a world where they didn’t have to hide their special abilities.
Additional information:
-Sylvie hates her last name because it translates to “Of the Cross”. Totally doesn't vibe with her Wiccan beliefs.
-Speaking of which, Sylvie sometimes performs wiccan rituals, but she has no magic powers that can actually make the rituals work.
-She gets ridiculously excited when she meets real witches at the academy.
-Her favorite animals are bats and snakes. So edgy.
-She gets embarrassed when Gwynaria called her ‘Princess Sylvie’. Gwynaria does it once in a while anyway to tease her.
-Sylvie suspects that, somehow, she is the reason that Gwynaria was able to speak modern English and French when she was released from her curse. However, Sylvie has yet to figure out how to do perform the same skill a second time.
