Grimoire of a Thousand Eyes

The grimoire had been set up in a corner, partially obscured by a thick cloth to make it seem vaguely like a normal book. The attempt was ultimately a failure, however, because some of its eyes were still visible to allow it to see. After Maddie had screened its Secret Santa partner, she would see that next to the book, there was a roll of paper. Written on it was a discordant melody that the book had inscribed in one of its eyes. It had conveyed the general sense of it to Maddie to be transcribed.

It waited patiently, hoping that its partner had brought it a nice soul.

This was most certainly a first for Huilu, giving gifts to a complete stranger. Even though the preferred gift had been souls. That one had really thrown Huilu for a loop, although she supposed it wasn't that unusual for this island. But Huilu couldn't just give another person her or anyone else's soul, so she had decided to simply gift them with a statue or other piece of art created from her unmelting ice. It would have to do, and Huilu did not want to leave the person giftless.
And Grimoire of a thousand eyes surely was an interesting name.

Huilu arrived at the agreed destination, a shop, and she opened the door. Huilu stepped in, looking around for any people waiting around.
"Excuse me? I'm looking for Grimoire of a thousand eyes, are they here?"

Grimoire of a Thousand Eyes

At the sound of its title, the grimoire perked up as much as a book made out of eyes physically could. In the voice's direction, it pumped out a series of images directing the person to its corner. It was slightly unsettling for a person who was unprepared for it, certainly considering the fact that at the end of the visions, there was one of the book itself in its many-eyed glory.

The sensation Huilu suddenly got, images floating in her mind, was very strange and unsettling and she frowned, touching a hand to her temple. Huilu looked where the images were leading her, and swallowed a bit when she saw what image the visions ended with. In a book covered in eyes.
Yes, this was definitely a first.

Huilu walked over where the visions had led her and pulled aside the cloth obscuring her vision. And she gasped a little when she saw what was under it. A book covered in eyes. Huilu stared at it for a moment before raising her voice.
"Grimoire...of a thousand eyes?"

Huilu was getting used to this way of communication, seeing images in her head she didn't conjure. She looked at the paper and carefully lifted it, it was a song. Huilu couldn't read music yet, but she had been planning to and decided to play this song as soon as she could. Well, if she could have it.
"Thank you very much. But I'm not certain if I can have this. For I cannoy give you a soul."
Huilu looked at the book slightly apologetically.
"I can give you something else, anything I can make with my ice, but souls I do not have the heart to give you."

Grimoire of a Thousand Eyes

The grimoire would have made a disappointed sound if it could. No souls? To honest, though, it had been partially expecting that. Few people truly wanted to part with their souls, even with something in exchange. It thought for a few moments of what else it could possibly want. As a book, there was little it needed. Sustenance was out of the question, as was most other items simply because it lacked limbs to enjoy them with.

Eventually, the book came to an accord with itself. It sent an image into Huilu's mind of an intricate looking book stand made of ice, the sort that was screaming on the line just between tacky and elegant. It gave her another image of the humanoid figure handing her the paper.

Thankfully the book was understanding, and sent Huilu an image of an alternative gift she could give it. And it was something just up her alley. Huilu smiled and right away began creating ice swirls between her hands. With the image in her mind she began creating a book stand exactly how the Grimoire wanted it, and it merely took few moments until it was done. Huilu held it in her hands and smiled a bit at the book.
"Would you like me to help set you on it, or are you capable of moving on your own?"
