Malik walked down the halls of the East Wing of the Dorms where his own room, which he settled in, resided. The boy had managed to unpack all of his belongings upon reaching his new living quarters. The room itself looked very spacious for one person. It had plenty furniture for the him and any guest to sit on while they conversed. There was a kitchen for storing food, condiments, silverware, and other such things. Along with it is a dining room for him to sit and eat his meals as well as any other visitor that decided to stop by and hang with him. Though, being that he has just recently enrolled in Starlight Academy, he has yet to make any friends as of yet. Hopefully, he will meet some friendly faces. He might be able to go on some stunning adventures with them as well. Connected to the kitchen and dining room is he living room. It had a rather large television, which everyone can watch from. An interesting part about his living quarters is that it has two rooms. One place this large should be shared. Malik will get lonely, then again, he can always go over to a friend's place. That is, if he can make any.

The young electrokinetic was brought out of his thoughts as the lounge came into view. It had accommodations similar to his dorm, but more suited for the many students that live in both the East and West Wings. He saw quite a few televisions along with couches and chairs to provide seating for the residents. He can also see computers in case he wants to get a quick access to information he would normally find difficult looking through the library. Malik know well on the mechanisms of a CPU. He even knows how to fix one with a problem. For now, he just wants to sit down on a couch and read. He doesn't to surf the worldwide web for any particular info or discoveries right now.

The boy has a different book that was held in his right hand, one that told about the natural disasters of nature and other phenomena. It was one of the books, which was part of his belongings when moving into the academy. He already knew of the weather and what could possibly happen in certain parts of the world. He just wants to have a refresher to keep his mind up-to-date. He was a smart young man and wants to keep it that way. The lounge grew closer and closer with each step. He looked around the place were students mingled, searching for a comfortable seat to sit in. He gaze fell upon a comfy couch that stood well within the center of the room. It appeared to be well-suited for his reading session.

'Hmm, that seating arrangement will do well. It looks very appropriate for me to sit down and read one of my favorite books. I have been wanting to relax, since unpacking my things.' Malik thought, wanting to unwind and read happily. He felt slightly stiff from carrying his stuff for so long ever since he had arrived at Starlight Academy. After unpacking all of his belongings, he felt relief from the removal of the excess weight.

Malik walked to the center of the lounge, his desire to sit down and relax as he re-read about the forces of nature. When he reached the couch, he sat down and opened his book to the 21st page. The section was about tornadoes and how they formed. This natural disaster occurs in sever thunderstorms. Tornadoes are much like hurricanes , but smaller and more narrow. It is also less destructive in comparison. Tornadoes form from a funnel cloud as a result of the rotation created by the wind shear. It spins faster and with the assistance of the rain and hail, it touches the ground. Those with the power to control wind can create tornadoes, with enough mastery, of course.

Excuse my butchering of Vietnamese.
Trắng! : White!

Pham Thi Anh Sang

Homework is boring, Anh Sang whined to herself. And why does this language have so many funny sounding words? In was, in her opinion, unfair that the science teacher had just gone ahead and assigned her work on her first day of classes. Even the English teacher hadn't done that!

Throwing down her textbook in disgust, she hopped off of her bed. Still on top of it was a laptop opened to an English-Vietnamese dictionary page and some old worksheets that she had been cross referencing. Altogether, it looked like the very picture of a hardworking student but to Anh Sang's annoyance, her homework page was still very much blank except for a single answer space. The one where her name was written.

Oh, whatever. Homework could wait. She could always send a butterfly to her parents and ask for help on the answers anyways. In order to kill some time, Anh Sang fixed her bed covers a little, which she never did. She was that bored.

I thought being at a magic school was supposed to be fun, she pouted. Oliver wasn't in at the time and it was still too early for dinner. There wasn't anything to do in their room besides awful disgusting work so she took a handful of her white light butterflies and left, tossing them over her head like a cloud of stars.

"Trắng! Trắng!" The girl stomped down the hallways, calling the light down from her butterflies in weak, watery rays. They bounced off ceiling fixtures and water fountains, creating only the faintest of rainbows. She curled those ribbons around her fingers as rings, wrapping layers over each other so that the colors could be seen more clearly. The original light that she had directed melted back into shape, a little weaker than before but still usable for small feats.

Anh Sang liked magic, she really did. There just weren't enough times when she could use it. Not even at a magic school!

"Argh!" She had to find a place to do fun magical things. The boredom might just kill her if she didn't. So with that thought in mind and lights dancing over her head, she barreled through the dormitory in search of something special.

The boy continued to read through his book on natural phenomena relating to nature as he continued to relax while sitting in the comfy couch in the center of the student lounge. He turned to the 22nd page in the text. The information in the book hardly caught his curiosity. His interest lies more with the supernatural and uncommon events that happen in the world. He was basically reading the pages to refresh his memory on what happens in nature and how. Tornadoes are very dangerous, he is glad that storms of such resulting magnitude don't happen here. That would bring in the possibility of the school being destroyed. Now that Malik thought about the subject on tornadoes more, this could give a wind manipulator or aerokinetic an idea on how to utilize their abilities in a more destructive way. Of course, with the power and turning force this natural disaster possesses, it will take a great deal of mastery to create such an event.

He skipped the pages to something more of his taste. Tornadoes seem interesting, but they are not his favorite. He was looking for a subject that peaked his curiosity more, something relating to lightning. Malik has always liked the element he controlled, since he was a child. It was his favorite and with it's versatility, it had many uses he has yet to discover. Malik ended up stopping on the section of thunderstorms with the book. This gave the electrokinetic a slight smile on his features. A thunderstorm is a storm involving mostly thunder and lightning. These events occurred on Manta Carlos and Malik would always look up to the sky within his house and witness the flashes of electricity in the atmosphere. The lightning always made him feel calm and happy, the same with his father. He wonders, if other electrokinetics got the same feeling watching a thunderstorm.

Moments have passed and the boy was already on a different page within the book. He continued to read about electrical storms as he relaxed in the soft furniture. He then, noticed a colorful light on his left side. He turned his attention from his book to see where this shine came from. Down a hallway was a girl who appeared to be manipulating rainbows. He could see small, white butterflies flying beside her. They were actually the ones responsible for the multicolored light that bounced off many areas from which he could see. As Malik gazed closer at her expression and tried to see what pattern is there to the actions that took place, he saw that she was bored.

'Maybe I can make friends with her. The only other person I know here is Professor Silivasi. I consider her a friend, but we hardly have any time to talk to each other, what with her job and all. If this girl doesn't want to be friends with me then, I am no one to change her opinion forcefully. Though, it would be nice, if she did.' He thought as she drew closer to the lounge. The boy decides he was going to speak to her. With a deep breath and exhale, he placed a blue bookmark in his natural disaster book, closed it, and stood from the couch with it in his left hand. He wanted to use his right hand for a handshake, if one should arise, of course. He was going to read more of the book later, right now, he should try and get to know the students living here.

He turned to the hallway the girl was coming through and began to walk to her. He grew nervous as he found it hard to talk to strangers. Malik was able to converse well with Aurora due to his anticipation and excitement. Now that he was calm, he was finding his introduction slightly more difficult. He took small, but slow breaths and exhaled, trying to calm himself. He is trying to work up the courage to speak to this girl and begin the conversation on a good impression. When he was finally close enough to her, he decided to speak.

"Um, hello there, it's nice to meet you. My name is Malik, I'm one of the new students here and I wish to get to know the other students here better." He said in a friendly tone. He was still nervous, however. The girl could react different to what he would exact. He wanted to get off to a good start with her.

Pham Thi Anh Sang

The walls of the dormitory were not especially reflective, a fact that Anh Sang found that annoying. For one, it meant less rainbows. For another, it meant less rainbows. It was so much easier to make a place pretty and interesting if it would just hurry up and reflect her magic already. If there was one more in the world that she could possibly have, she would have really liked to have one that made objects more shiny. And if people thought that was lame, she'd just throw rainbows all over them to make them shut up! To be fair, it seemed to work in a lot of situations.

As she smiled happily at the idea of pretty shiny things, the girl realized that a boy who was reading the lounge had been talking to her. Anh Sang had noticed him coming closer but she had thought he was just going up to see the butterflies. People tended to do that a lot, which cheered her up a lot because it meant that they thought her magic was cool, too.

Now what's he saying? The girl cocked her head to the side. She was way better at listening than speaking English but that didn't mean anything if she didn't pay attention first. From the nervous look on his face, though, he had probably asked her something kind of important. His tone was friendly, though. Maybe he thought she was lost? Now that was an annoying thought. But then the next moment, Anh Sang remembered Oh, right. Magic school, so it most likely wasn't that. Maybe he asked what my name is? That seemed to make more sense.

"Uh, hello," Anh Sang said slowly. In her hesitancy, her accent was slurring over her words. "I'm Pham Thi Anh Sang. Nice to meet you?"

The young electrokinetic became less nervous seeing that the girl, Pham Thi Anh Sang introduced herself. He was relieved that she didn't reacted negatively to his words. Speaking of words, her own sounded slow and slurred with a certain accent. English was most likely not her native tongue, otherwise she would be talking faster and without hesitation. It is easy to say that she came from a certain place where his own language is uncommon. He wonders, if she could understand what he was saying. There were people in the world that don't understand English words tat much and as a result, don't understand the speaker in question.

Malik quickly thought of what to say next. An interesting aspect about time within one's mind and the same continuous force outside. What seemed like minutes to the boy was actually mere moments. Thankfully the Pham Thi Anh Sang will not get impatient on wonder why he is taking so long to say something. Despite being less nervous after the girl's introduction, he still felt slightly anxiety, but it was now unnoticeable. He then, noticed two butterflies, which he noted were pretty in his thoughts. He decided to complement them, since they do have beauty that should b respected. These interesting insects were the reason for creating those rainbows down the hall as well.

"Those butterflies around you are beautiful. Also, I've noticed that they were making those remarkable streams of colors across the halls. That was very cool, I must say." Malik said, commenting on the rainbows the girl had made were impressive. The slurring in her voice and the accent got him to think on her origins. Where was she from, her wonders.

"Um, I was wondering, where are from? I mean, where did you used to live before coming to Manta Carlos?" He asked. Malik moved to this island when he was 10 years old. Before that, he lived in Maryland, in the world outside of Manta Carlos. There the gifted are forced to conceal their powers to avoid discrimination and prejudice. It was this very reason that his family now lived here in this haven for super-powered individuals. The question that came to him was the girl's reasons for coming here. Right now, it was a puzzle to him. Also, the fact that she might have some trouble speaking Englsh could pose a problem in terms of language and understanding.

'If she has trouble speaking my own native tongue then, this can be difficult, unless she can understand me. I just hope I can be able to converse with her. She seems like a nice person, and colorful. Even if she does have trouble speaking English, I can teach her. Conveniently, I have a book or two suited for that purpose. Of course, it is up to her to decide not me.' Malik thought, thinking of a to have a friendly conversation with her as well as having an idea on how to teach her to speak his language.

A school for the gifted. Likely not the best place to bring Nemesis' evil bag boy but hey, the -other- humans really don't seem to like the ears and tail Kuro thought to himself as he strolled through the halls on his way to the dorms. While this world has it's fair share of troubles, it was a nice, refreshing break from Gesshoku and the constant wars between the spirit animal tribes that Kuro was used to. Indeed, Starlight Academy was a breath of fresh air for the young Nekomata, and while he feared that Master Neko would make a resurgance here for now he walked calmly through the halls towards his dorm, his mind taking in the beauty of something he never knew....peace.

Of course, that peace was quickly interrupted by the sight of a 10 year old girl running through the halls causing all kinds of rainbows in the distance. Seeing the young girl, Kuro could not help but smile. She was so innocent and carefree, and looked like she was having so much fun. The last time he had seen such a smile was when he and Yuki played together by the stream so long ago...

NO! Don't think about that, Kuro! Your only inviting -him- to come back! Kuro said in his mind, forcing his train of thought away from Yuki and all that he had lost. Collecting himself, he was interested in that rainbow girl. If anything she'd be cute and happy enough to take his mind off of the tornado of fears and concerns that wracked it on a daily basis. In his mind, he debated with himself, part of him saying that she could -endanger- him, but the other part reasoning she'd be of no use to Nemesis. Finally ceasing the argument, Kuro made up his mind. I'LL DO IT! He said in his head. Collecting himself, he casually strided over to where the girl went, and immedatly saw an older boy reading a book with her.

"Please pardon my intrusion, but I'm a new student here and I thought I'd just say hi and ...maybe..get to know some of my classmates better! You can call me Kuro, by the way! " Kuro said to both of them, his kitty ears perked up and his tail swaying back and forth happily.

Pham Thi Anh Sang

Just as Anh Sang was going to reply to this boy who's name she had missed, another boy came into the room and introduced himself. She really wanted to be annoyed -somebody was admiring her butterflies and they weren't done yet!- but as her eyes fell on the newcomer, the ten year old realized something.

"Ah!" The girl pointed at his ears and tail in jerky motions, as if she couldn't decide what she wanted her finger to indicate to. "Kitty!" Anh Sang squeed in delight. Sure, she had known that there were animal shapeshifters around -like Scary Dragon Man aka Reita and of course, there was Oliver- but she hadn't considered that there would be people around who could be right in the middle!

She really wanted to ask him -Kuro, right? That sounds Japanese!- if she could pet his ears but maybe that would seem weird. They had only just met and Daddy always told her that it was rude to pet other people's animals without asking. Since it seemed like that rule might apply to people, too, Anh Sang, in a rare show of restraint, opted not to glomp the boy.

And because Mommy told her that it was rude to ignore people when they asked her questions, she forced herself to turn back to the first boy she had met. "Well, I'm really glad you liked my rainbows!" Anh Sang said, fidgeting a little. "I didn't work that hard on them this time but you should see them when I'm actually trying! And, oh, I'm from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam." The last part was kind of an afterthought. What she really wanted was to pet Kuro's ears at least once.

"And um, um, hi, Kuro!" It was kind of awkward having to talk with two people at the same time so Anh Sang fumbled around in English, her accent coming in thicker for a few moments. "I'm Pham Thi Anh Sang! It's nice to meet you!"

Seeing his new friend turned to the new individual behind them, he also looked. His eyes slightly widened at seeing the extra features to the boy's body.He had read much folklore and can recognize any supernatural being from detail read. If Malik wasn't mistaken, he was gazing at a nekomata. The boy had only seen what this race looks like from text as well as seeing alternate versions of them as two-tailed cats. There was no denying that this boy in front of him and Anh Sang was one of them.

Speaking of the 10 year-old girl in front of him, she was making jerking motions at the boy's tail and ears. Along with her squealing, it appears she happens to think he is cute. Malik, on the other hand, thought it was cool. He wondered what it would be like to have extra animalistic features to his own body. Would he gain animal attributes, display their habits, or would they be just for show was what he thought.

Malik gave a slight grin, happy that Anh Sang took the complement in a positive way. Her butterflies were really interesting as well as he place she was from as well. From the way her name sounded along with the city, she was assumingly Chinese. Insects that could create rainbows were certainly rare. of course, gifted were rare as well. It's not everyday you see a boy, like Malik, who can fire lighting out of their palm or discharge electricity from their body. Though, on the island of Manta Carlos, gifted were more common compared to others living outside of the land mass's parameter. However, living in the United States or any other national country is not easy when you possess special abilities. Gifted are often treated as if they don't belong with regular humans. Malik can probably understand the discrimination on others, like him, with his high intellect. It could be that some human don't understand the gifted or jealous of their power. Either way, he see that it is wrong to treat those who are "different" from you so harshly.

"I hope to see your rainbows when you are putting more effort into it. They were magnificent enough when you were not even trying. Also, hearing that your are from Vietnam is pretty interesting. Since you told me where your from, I should tell you of where I used to live. I came here from Maryland when I was at the age of 10." He said, also explaining on his own origins leading up to him living in Manta Carlos and attending Starlight Academy.

He decided to turn his attention to the nekomata named Kuro. It was quite rare, well, more rare to meet a being such as him. Nekomata are supernatural beings from Japan and as such are more common within that country than outside. He didn't think he would meet someone, like Kuro, so soon. It was certainly intriguing to behold. Malik waited for Anh Sang to finished her introduction, so he could speak next. When she was done, he decided to iterate his own greeting while corresponding with the girl's own.

"If I'm not interrupting, I would like to introduce myself as well. My name is Malik Roberts, it is nice to meet someone, like you." He said in a friendly tone towards the nekomata.

"Well, well, well...what a cute little girl....and such a nice boy. It would be a shame if they where to have a little accident, wouldn't't it?" A voice said to Kuro as the two greated him.Damn it! Don't you touch them! Kuro snapped at the voice in his mind in anger. You mean don't -I- touch them, no? After all, I am you, Kuro! Your the one that accepted the pact,! " the other voice responded. No! you and I are totally different! I'll show you, Neko!" Kuro continued to yell within his mind, responding to the other voice. "Ahh...well, then, lets see you try! With that, Master Neko tried to gain control of Kuro's body. In the outside world, Kuro froze, dead silent to the greetings of his two new friends.

Back inside his mind, the clash between Master Neko and Kuro raged on. Steel clashed with steel as Kuro's shining Katana clashed with Master Neko's elegant rapier. "Tell me, Kuro, why must we always engage in this walz? You know as well as I that far more gets done when I am in charge!! I am everything that makes you strong Kuro, get the point!?" Master Neko said as he thrusted his rapier towards Kuro. Dodging the rapier gracefully, Kuro attempted to strike back with his Katana, screaming as he thrust his blade towards his alter-ego. "Shut up, you!" he yelled at Neko as he tried to strike him. Neko casually dodged his attack and they attepted to peirce Kuro with his rapier from the side. "How about a sting to the side to match a your stinging words!" Neko said as his blade perced Kuro's side. Neko was about to let out a wicked laugh, but his face quickly shifted to a look of shock. Like a ghost, his rapier blow had gone right through Kuro. In a flash, Kuro teleoorted behind him, his Katana placed right on the back of his neck, poised to sever his spine.

"Ahh...it looks like you've got me in quite a bind, Kuro. You win this round, but don't think this can last forever. One day...you'll slip up. One day....you'll beg me to take over. Just you wait, Kuro...just you wait.." With those words, Maser Neko vanished and the glazed, zombie-like expression on Kuro's face lit back up to his format cheerful expression. "Sorry about that...I can get..spacy..sometimes. It's a bad habbit.." Kuro said to both of them, chuckling with embarrassment before speaking again. "Nice to meet you too! Also...Anh Sang...glad you think kitties like me are cute! If you want, you can pet my ears or tail. I'm actually ok with it! Kuro continued.

Pham Thi Anh Sang

Oh, that's good! Anh Sang thought in relief as Malik introduced himself a second time. Since she was actually listening then, the girl finally caught his name. It would have been super embarrassing if she had been prompted to introduce him to Neko or some other person without knowing it. And she couldn't help puffing up in pride as yet another person took notice of how awesome her magic was. It wasn't entirely her fault for being so eager for praise; back at her homes, it wasn't like she could just show off her powers to everybody like she was doing at the Academy these days.

What was really kind of strange, which even Anh Sang could notice, was the way that Neko just suddenly seemed to blank out. It was weird and maybe kind of scary but not as much as she would have thought before she had begun school here. She had already seen some pretty odd things in her short stay, after all. So boys randomly spacing out in the middle of conversations seemed actually quite tame. All of a sudden, though, just as the girl was starting to worry, the blankness snapped right off of Neko's face.

Okay, that, that can be creepy, Anh Sang decided. She hoped that this wouldn't become a regular thing that happened because, um... Kitty! She brightened up considerably, though, when Neko told her that it was okay to pet him, and all thoughts of creepiness went straight into a back corner of her mind.

With a happy squee, she latched onto the taller, older boy's side, reaching for his cat ears. A ten year old girl would always be a ten year old girl but at least Anh Sang was trying not to be too rough with him.
