The sunlight filtered through the half-open blinds that Saturday morning, signaling the beginning of the weekend for most students of the Academy. Most would probably sleep in, some would probably make use of the day to get some encroaching projects done before the deadline... Helvechar wasn't doing either. Every Saturday morning, the sophomore shifted from his human form, which almost everyone saw during school hours, to his gryphon form, his natural form. He found Saturday morning to be a good time to unwind and spend some time alone in a form he was more comfortable with.

Sitting up on his bed, the gryphon took a deep breath and smiled. The weekend was one of the times he could find solitude, not just to be in a comfortable state of body, but also to be at ease with his mind. Looking up, he closed his eyes, and loosed a voice that floated up towards the heavens.... And through the walls to anyone who might be in the halls....

He was a morning person.

Always had been, always will be.

Maybe it had something to do with how the morning sun felt on his face when he went for an early walk, or how refreshing it was to get up and know you had the whole day, but regardless of the reason, Evante loved the mornings.

That was the reason he opted to take one of the earlier ships to Manta Carlos. Currently, he was wandering the dorm building after receiving his schedule and room assignment sheet in the Administration building, determined to find his dorm room, set all of his stuff down, and simply explore the Academy.

Humming absentmindedly as he walked, his pale blue gaze swept the halls even as his free hand-- the other was holding the handle of his rolling suitcase, another duffle bag slung over his shoulder-- fiddled with what looked to be interconnecting metal hoops. The hoops were varying in diameters from several centimeters to a foot filled the halls with jingling sounds as he appeared to be playing with it.

At least, until he paused, hearing the faintest hints of singing coming from one of the far off dorm rooms. Tilting his head thoughtfully, he pocketed the hoops and continued forward, the route to his assigned dorm room apparently bringing him closer to the source of the singing. Coincidentally, it also seemed to be loudest right outside the room's door once he found it.

Taking the envelope that held all of the papers he had received earlier from where he'd put it in one of the pockets of his suitcase, he dug around a bit before retrieving his room key, proceeding to unlock the door, open it, and peek in.

He blinked slowly at the sight that met him, taking in the gryphon that was quite happily perched on one of the beds and also happened to be the one singing with such a voice. Then, only a few moments later, he offered the creature-- his roommate, possibly?— one of his signature bright smiles, a bit of apologetic sheepishness tinging the expression.

"Ah, sorry about that~ I hadn't meant to interrupt, but I've just arrived and have been assigned to this dorm room? I don't suppose you happen to be my roommate, hm?" He asked almost chirpily, his eyes roaming around the room before falling upon the gryphon once more. He was used to creatures from tales and legends-- things thought to be just that: myths, stories made up from human imagination--, and therefore wasn't freaking out or staring at Helvechar as if he were a beast or had three heads. Instead, he gave off a more open aura, appearing not at all perturbed with having a gryphon as a roommate.

Helvechar may have been singing to his heart's content in a musical fantasy, but the gryphon's ears were still listening to everything . Even though the predominant sound in the room was the sound of Helvechar's voice, the gryphon's acute hearing was still capable of picking up the click! of a turning lock and doorknob. His beak was still open, but his voice was silent as he looked at the opening door, and the man who peeked. A roommate? When did they tell me I was going to get a roommate?

"Zay moykhl! I wasn't expecting anyone this morning, let alone a new roommate. Please, come in." the gryphon said, shaking off his initial surprise at the thought of having to share his room. Although the thought crossed his mind that he should have at least changed to his other, less intimidating form, Helvechar wasn't really concerned about the guy being freaked out by feathers and a beak for a room mate.

His sheepishness seemed to increase as he nodded and carefully maneuvered his way in, setting his bags down and off to the side before allowing the door to swing closed behind him, carefully pocketing the key he had used. “I suppose later this afternoon would have been a better time, but I’m not one to lay idle during the mornings, yeah?” He said this conspiratorially, as if they were old friends sharing laughs through an inside joke or something of a similar vein.

“Well, then, I’m Evante. Evante Ekaris. Nice to meet you, Mr…?” He trailed off in a question, waiting for the gryphon to give his own name-- sure, it had been on the papers that detailed his dorm room assignment, but he liked the idea of allowing someone to introduce themselves in their own words and on their own terms. Absentmindedly, he wondered if he should offer his hand for a handshake as well, but figured that if Helvechar was comfortable with such a thing, then he would give the gryphon the choice of initiating it; if not, then no one would be embarrassed by Evante just thrusting his hand out into the air.
