Emily tilted her head a little, finishing a bite of her burger and wiping her mouth with a napkin. "Girl trouble?... I'm... N-Not sure how t-to take that... From what you've told me, that's... I-I... don't know..."

Accident... That word caught her, and it probably showed on her face. She took another sip of her drink as she tried to decide if it would be appropriate to ask about it. "W-Well... I'm s-sorry you felt forced to come here... You can... talk to me about it... if you think you need to..."

Em finished her drink along with her food. She was kind of distracted with her own thoughts until Loch brought up the second gift. "Oh?... I-I'm not sure that... merits so much... d-d-does it?..." She truly wasn't sure. She wasn't exactly the most 'social' person, and she didn't know how big a deal it might be to Lochlann.

"Girl trouble," Lochlann instead repeated, and he laughed now.

He was enjoying himself. He was feeling warm, as though some of the alcohol in his blood stream was finally starting to catch fire. When she offered to talk, Lochlann angled his smile in her direction.

Before, he'd just been smiling, but now, he was smiling at her.

He didn't realize he'd made the shift, but he had.

"That's very kind of you," he said. He didn't bother to say anything else, didn't bother to tell her that he never talked about those things, and he didn't plan to ever talk about them, because he didn't want to repay her kindness with his overwhelming...whatever this was.

Angst, probably.

Instead, Lochlann slid back the chair and stepped out. He walked to the other side of the table where she was and leaned in close to her ear.

"Close your eyes and open up your hands," he told her.

Emily still didn't really know what to make of that answer. Her head tilted to the side a little as she examined Lochlann. Well his expression had changed, but she wasn't really sure if it had been her or the alcohol that had done it. He tasted happy though, at least.

She rubbed her hands together as she watched him timidly while he circled the table. She was suddenly very unsure about the situation, and her eyes and cheeks began to show it. "... C-C-Close my eyes...?" Em wanted to trust Lochlann, but she wasn't entirely sure if she trusted drunk Lochlann.

After a little bit more fidgeting, her eyes found there way to look up into his. "... A... Alright... B-But you better n-not be... S-Staring at anything... I-I'll know!..." She let her eyelids fall closed and awkwardly extended her hands out in front of her, just waiting for whatever was going to happen.

"I wont stare," Lochlann promised her. "I'll close my eyes, too."

He took off his jacket. Situated in the inside pocket was a small box with a filter for a fish tank. He slipped this into her hands and then closed the top one over it.

"For when you decide to decorate up your future office," Lochlann said.

His voice was low and hot next to her ear.

Then, because his mouth was right there, and his eyes were closed, and Lochlann wasn't thinking, he leaned closer and pressed his lips to hers.

It was a peck, just an affectionate kiss at the side of the mouth, but with a little bit of imagination, it could have been something more.

But Lochlann made a promise.

Just friends.

He leaned back and grabbed his drink from the table and took another mouthful.

Emily fidgeted around a little while she waited for whatever Lochlann was going to give her. Once the small box was pressed into her hands, she opened her eyes and looked down at it, turning it over in her hands. It was sweet of him to remember, and she opened her mouth to say something like that statement.

Her breath caught in her throat as Loch kissed her. He mind just went blank, and her eyes lost focus. She could taste the orange on his lips was the first thing that registered. It wasn't until he had backed off that she realized what he'd done. He eyes whipped towards Loch as one of her hands went up to touch her lips.

Tears began to form in her eyes. Her breath just wouldn't work, but still she zeroed in on Loch, trying to sense what he was feeling, trying to find some feeling of affection or desire that would let her justify him taking her first kiss from her. She found nothing though, just an idle happiness, like a child who'd been given the candy they wanted.

She sat there, just staring at Loch for several more seconds that felt like an eternity. Silent tears fell down her face, her expression slowly degrading into distress. Finally her lungs decided to work, only to produce a small, high-pitched sob.

That was it. Her mind fired a single thought through her body, and she threw the chair aside and began running away. She didn't know where she was going, she didn't know why she was running, her legs just began slamming into the ground propelling her away. Her path ended up being in the direction of the dorms, the fish tank filter still clutched in her hand.

Lochlann was not at all sure what the hell just happened.

One minute Emily was there, the next, she was gone.

He'd been about to call after her, but the waitress came by with the bill, and Lochlann was standing there while one woman was looking at him while he looked at the departing figure of another with no expression.

Could she...

taste what he was?

That would explain it, probably.

Emily walked down the hallway to her dorm, she'd been gone for a little while and it was rather late now. She wasn't paying attention and was almost at her door when she noticed Lochlann. She took a step back with a gasp when he surprised her, and then just clutched her hands to her chest and looked at the floor, her eyes tearing up a little again.

She spoke softly, and with that slight hitch in her voice of someone who had obviously been crying. "... H-How could you... Do that... A-Am I just some trophy to you... W-Was this all a d-d-dare or s-something..." Maybe she'd read a few too many high school dramas, but for some reason that scenario stood out in her mind.

Lochlann blinked up at her.

A trophy? A dare?

His eyebrows furrowed in confusion and he frowned. It was obvious she was upset and, next to iron, Lochlann's biggest weakness was tears.

"Emily, I don't understand," he said. "I'm sorry."

He was sorry, but he was thrown off now, and the feelings coming off of him were inexplicably bitter, metallic fear like the taste of blood. His heart was starting to race.

She blinked a bunch of times to try and hold back the tears. There were already tracks down her cheeks cut from when she'd cried earlier.

"Y-You said... You s-said it would just be a dinner o-of friends... B-B-But then... *hic* Th-Then you go and... S-Steal my first... my first k-kiss...?!"

Emily was mad, and sad, and distraught and a whole bunch of other feelings. Her hands balled into fists, and then relaxed over and over again. small droplets slid down her face before she choked the tears back again.

"What... What am I-I suppose to be to you...? J-J-Just another girl lead on as a 'friend'... Are... Do you...?" Are Addy and Avian also being lead on like this? Something stopped her from saying these words, professionalism probably.

Her words still weren't carrying, but Lochlann felt like, maybe, he was starting to get a grasp of the situation, although it was tenuous at best.

He sighed and patted the space next to him.

"Can you sit with me for a minute?" he said, and then, hesitated. "You don't have to sit that close, if you don't want to, but I'll...I'll explain."

What was anyone supposed to be to him? He liked to think they were friends, but, let's get real Lochlann bucko, his friends were all a potential crime scene statistic. Something low and foul pooled in his gut and clawed at his inside with sharp claws.

He should lie to her. He should tell her that yes, he was leading her on, that he wanted nothing more than to kiss her pressed against her dorm room wall and then take her down to the lake and kiss her and show her what it felt like to be kissed while the koi fish watched.

He should tell her he's a monster.

Instead, he said, "I'm sorry."
