Emily was nervous. So so so nervous. Why had she let this happen? She had let Lochlann talk her into a date even though she'd understood how he was. Yeah she'd insisted that they were only going as friends, but she wasn't an idiot, she knew what was happening even if they'd both agreed that nothing was going to happen. Had they agreed nothing was going to happen? Oh god how did she get into this mess.

Still, even if she was nervous, she wasn't about to stand the guy up, she was more responsible then that. Plus, it gave her a chance to dress up, sure she could do it any time but it was nice to have a reason. She hadn't done her hair or put on any make-up past what she normally wore, but she had selected a nice red tank top. She was also wearing a pair of skinny jeans that showed off the contours of her legs, and she had a belt lashed lopsidedly across her hips, more as an accessory then for it's function. The outfit was topped off with a small red bag that went well with the rest of her clothing.

She reached in to her bag and pulled out the tarot deck she had brought with her and began shuffling them. The cards always calmed her down. She would slide about half the cards off of the top of the deck and move them to the bottom, then take about a quarter off the bottom and move them to the top, and occasionally she'd flip them around so that when they were drawn they be inverted. She drew a card off the top after a while and looked at it, a blush filling her face when she say the Lovers card. That didn't count, right? that wasn't a proper reading, right?

Lochlann was not drunk, but he'd need to be soon. He had a lingering feeling that he was watched and he still couldn't get it out of his head. He couldn't find anyone watching him, but that didn't mean no one was watching him.

Still, he was taking Emily on a not-date tonight, and he dressed the part of someone who was taking a pretty girl out for dinner regardless of what he expected to have happen afterwards. Lochlann was wearing his normal jeans and a dark shirt with the name of a local band scrawled across it in elaborate font. His dark hair was clean and only slightly mussed, and he was wearing a jacket instead of his normal hoodie.

He had no idea where his hoodie went.

"Emily," Lochlann said, and then he stopped and gave her a smile. "You look really nice."

He didn't believe she'd dressed up for him, but he felt she deserved the compliment either way. He was holding his arm behind his back, obscuring something from site.

The emotions coming off him where a mixture of excitement and paranoia. He couldn't shake off that uncomfortable feeling. Maybe, just maybe, Lochlann was afraid, but he'd never admit that. He was burying it under his happiness for the evening.

"I hope your hungry, this place has good food," he told her.

Emily jump a little and slipped the card back into the deck. He blush growing on her face as she turned to Lochlann and forced a smile onto her face. "Hi! Hello!" She held the cards behind her back as she began to fidget around frantically, especially when she started getting complimented. "D... D-Do you think so?... It's just s-something I th-threw together l-last minute..."

She licked her lips a little and forced herself to breath calmly. There really wasn't anything to be worried about, Loch wouldn't try anything, and if he did she'd get a heads up anyway thanks to her power. Once she'd managed to settle her nerves she'd look back at Loch. "... A-Are you alright?... You s-seem... I-I don't know..." She nodded a little bit, timidly looking down at the ground. "W-Well... I-I knew we w-were going to d-dinner so... I t-tried not to eat a-any snacks..."

"Well, you're clearly very good at dressing up to be able to throw together a look last minute like that," Lochlann complimented. "I should have you come help me with my wardrobe sometime."

Truthfully, though it was a fun idea, Lochlann hated clothing.....though he did not hate the idea of Emily watching him undress. The thought washed over him even as the warmth rose to his face.

"oh!" he said, and he pulled is hand from behind his back.

He was holding a small bouquet of August flowers--Mums and sunflowers and things of that nature. It was tied with a bright, cheerful looking ribbon and smelled light and floral. Though the flowers were pretty, they were cheerful and lacked the heaviness of a romantic bouquet of roses. He hoped that would put her at ease.

"These are for you!"

When she asked him if he was alright, Lochlann nodded a little bit too quickly.

"I'm fine," he said. He dismissed her concerns with a wave of his hand even as the prickle of energy betrayed his uncertainty to her. He didn't know how to control his emotions, but honestly, he wasn't too concerned, because it's not like she could read his mind...right?

he laughed.

"Well, I'm glad you didn't snack. Their burgers here are quite good, and quite big, too! Do you want to sit at one of the tables out doors?"

He had not forgotten about her fortune telling, but now Lochlann was starting to second guess this. He wanted to know what lay in store for him, but he was worried, too.

Emily just fidgeted more at his compliment, slipping the deck back into her bag. "... Well..... Th-Th-Thank you... I... I like getting dressed up... B-But it's not a-always best... I... Suppose I-I can help you deside on o-outfits..." She could feel her face reddening again, though she wasn't thinking about the lewd implications, just thinking too much. "Y-You look nice t-too..."

When the flowers were produced, Em just blinked at them, here body stilling itself as she was given something to focus on. "O-Oh... Wow... Th... They're l-lovely... Thank you..." She really didn't know what she had been expecting from Lochlann when he insisted on bringing flowers. Some spectacular bundle of three dozen red roses or something similarly fantastic perhaps, but the simplicity of the bouquet did in fact put her at ease. She gingerly took the flowers in her hands, and stared at them for a few moments before starting to fidget again.

"U-U-Um... W-What do I do with them?... D-Do I just h-hold them... Sh-Should I find a v-vase or...?" This had never happened before. This was not an event she was familiar with. She used Lochlann's 'reassurance' to ground herself again, focusing back on him. "W-Well... Alright... B-But if you... I-I can listen if you n-need to talk about s-something..." She blushed a little again, that seemed a little too friendly to her for some reason. "... O-Outside would be nice... Y-Yes..."

The fact that she had told him she'd never received flowers before somehow did not prepare Lochlann for the task of explaining how to care for them.

"You can probably just hold them now, or stick them in your purse, if they'll fit?" Lochlann said. "When you get home, you can put them in a vase. None of them should form a water seal so you shouldn't have to cut the stems. Change the water every few days and they should last for a while."

He knew more about flowers than most American men did, and Lochlann realized with a pang it was because his mother had taught him that. he quickly brushed the thought aside and led Emily to the side of the building where a few tables and chairs had been set up. Lochlann pulled one out of her, and then sat down across from her.

"I appreciate the offer to talk," he said, flashing her a dazzling smile. 'But I'm alright. It's very kind of you to offer. I'm sure you'll make a great therapist--I feel very at ease with you."

He thought he saw something over her shoulder on the roof, but there was nothing there, not even a pigeon. He swallowed.

"I have one more thing for you, too, but I was hoping to give it to you after dinner. I'm glad you agreed to join me, Emily. I was looking forward to this."

he swallowed again.

Now that they were here, he was suddenly afraid of what the future might hold.

He needed something to calm his nerves.

"Do you drink?" he asked her.

Emily nodded a little and fiddled with her bag so it could hold the flowers for her. She couldn't get the whole thing into the pocket, but the stems fit sufficiently so the bouquet wouldn't fall out. "I see... I-I'll remember that... A-And keep them as l-long as I can..."

She sat down in the chair that he pulled out for her. "Thank you... D... Do girls normally s-say that this m-much?..." She fidgeted a little and looked away when she realized that was an odd question when they weren't on a date. "I-I mean......."

Em blushed a little again at the smile, and even further at the compliment. "... W-Well... I... Can't force you to tell me things i-if you don't want to... I just... T-Try to listen... And to u-understand..."

She tilted her head a little when she caught the look, but decided not to pry into it. "... Y-You're giving me a lot of things Lochlann... A... Are you sure it's okey..." Fidgeting intensifies. "...Well I... I couldn't turn down dinner... And I was looking forward to it too..." She looked away from Loch as she brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "... I-I don't have... a lot of f-friends yet..."

She tilted her head when he mentioned drinking. "A-Alcohol?... Well... I-I mean... I've tried it but... I don't th-think I'd ever drink a lot of anything..... Why?"

Her nervousness, or, at least that's what Lochlann took it to be, endeared her to him further. He gave her a reassuring smile and got comfortable in his seat. With his back to the building, Lochlann had a relatively unadulterated view so no one could sneak up on him.

"Making friends on this island is honestly really weird," Lochlann said. "I find friends in the places I least expect to. I'm sure things will get easier for you as class progresses. When I first came to the island, I came in August in between sessions. I didn't make friends for a while."

No, the first person he'd really met had been his enemy for the last two years.

"I'm sure it'll get easier for you, you're very nice to be around," Lochlann told her.

On the subject of alcohol, Lochlann nodded and fidgeted while he waited for a menu. The waitress had just walked by and motioned that she'd be back in a bit.

"This place has really good mojitos," Lochlann said. "And mixed drinks. I'm partial to something they have involving whiskey and rum and this interesting orange fruit mix stuff. I think you might like it."

He wanted to relax and he hoped she wouldn't mind. it was an invitation to drink with him, but Lochlann wanted more to calm his nerves than to try and loosen her up.

"I... S-Suppose that's fair... It's n-not like I've really been looking for th-them..." She glanced over Lochlann once. He was here friend now, right? She wouldn't be here if he wasn't, regardless of his intentions with her.

She fidgeted in kind with Loch in response to his compliment, there was only so much blushing a girl could do after all. "... A-An orange drink s-sounds nice... I... I guess I'll g-give it a try... I-If you think it's g-good... S-So that... And a burger... I-I guess..."

"I could introduce you to some of my friends," Lochlann said, chewing on the inside of his cheek. "You sort of remind me of a friend of mine. She's very shy, too. She likes to sketch. You're both very sweet people."

He should probably stop using the word sweet when he was hungry.

The waitress returned and Lochlann ordered for them, and she came back with their drinks a few moments later. The drink was in a beer mug, foamed at the top, smelled, and tasted, much like an orange creamsickle. There was a minimal alcohol bite, but it disappeared after a few sips, and honestly, Lochlann didn't taste it at all.

He licked some of the whip cream off his lips.

"Tell me something about yourself you've never told anyone else before," he said, giving her a smile. "What makes you you, Emily?"
