Nia

Appearance Description: Nia is a small and fragile girl who looks to be about 13 or 14 years old. She stands just over five feet tall and has a petite figure. She is generally pale but darkens slightly in the warmer months. She has light blonde hair that falls just an inch or so below her shoulders. She combs her hair meticulously, multiple times a day. She has big grayish-green eyes, dainty pink lips, and a tiny nose. She often has dark circles under her eyes. When she isn't in her skirt, blouse and jacket uniform for school, she most often wears a knee-length, pastel dress. If it is cold outside she just adds layers, such as leggings and long sleeve shirts, to keep warm.


Personality Description: Ninety five percent of the time, Nia is an extremely shy and timid girl who is afraid of everything and everyone. She is extremely distrustful and reserved. She is constantly anxious and her mood is easily affect but the things going on around her. She tends to be negative, very cautious, and highly controlled in her thoughts and actions. However, she is very easy to persuade and has almost no backbone. If she is told to do something, she will do it, no questions asked. She is also very gullible as she still is like a child. She keeps herself very removed from other people and social situations, preferring to not be involved and just to observe. She picks up quickly on the things around her and is very watchful for small details. She is also very kind, sweet, and soft spoken but she is often to shy and nervous to get over her anxiety so that anyone can see this.
Nia struggles with many mental and emotional disorders. She is constantly paranoid, even to the point where sometimes she will swear she is being followed or that people are after her. She suffers from social anxiety, anxiety in general, and depression. Her mood is also very unstable and in one minute she can go from happy to sad to excited to depressed to crying to laughing and then back to sad again. On top having amnesia, she experiences lapses in her memory. She will usually remember most important and significant events but will sometimes be going throughout her day and then realize she has no idea what she did for the last four hours. Lastly, Nia has a personality disorder. While 95% of the time she may be shy and timid and afraid, the other 5% she completely changes as person. It only happens under very stressed or emotional situations and these occasions are very rare. She will become angry, loud, bullheaded, suborn, aggressive, defensive and even violent. Usually after an episode of this, Nia will quickly go back to her shy self, even more terrified because she can't understand why she just said or did whatever just happened. It feels like someone else over took her body and she was just stuck there watching.
Even though Nia has actually been alive for 19 years, her stunted growth has left her still looking 13 or 14. Since she cannot remember anything about who she is, and when she looks in the mirror she sees a child, that is what she assumes she is. She acts very childlike and dependent on others but at the same time has a maturity that most kids lack.
Nia has a lot of weird quirks as well. She constantly fidgets with her hair and cracks her knuckles. If she is out walking around she can often be heard humming some strange tunes, that even she isn't sure what they are. Nia also has little twitches and trembles she gets for no reason. Sometimes her right arm will start shaking and won't stop for hours or her shoulders start twitching for a few minutes.
Nia's abilities also have a great affect on her. Her visions of the future are extremely painful and scary, and she lives in constant fear of when the next one will occur.


Powers: Psychic: Nia has the ability to see future events or happenings, however she has no control of what she sees or when she sees it. The visions come at what seems to be completely random. They are also highly painful. It starts with a buzzing in the back of her head that spreads to her whole brain, ringing in her hears that becomes a deafening sound, her vision going black, and then finally the feeling that her head is going to explode. Her visions come in blurry and seem to jump around as she sees them with parts missing. It also seems that her visions are not always accurate, since people can always choose to take a different course than the one they are currently heading down. However, her power lets her see with greatest probability what will happen and while certain aspects may be off from time to time, Nia's accuracy with what she sees is almost uncomfortably high. Nia can get visions of things that will happen in the next room over, across the sea, in seven years, or in two days. Nia also suffers from migraines for the next day or so after she has a vision.

History: About twenty six years ago, a collection of politicians, CEO's, and other highly influential people developed an interest in finding a way to predict the future. They began funding a secret group to find them a solution. Five years later, a break through was made. A supernatural mutation was discovered that allowed the individual to see future events. However, it was nearly impossible to find a subject that was compatible with the mutation, so one had to be created. The Nortan Intelligence Association, or NIA, was the cover name for the project that began. Two years later, after many trails and errors, subject 238J was the first to survive the incubation period and began the second stage of development. They began to preform multiple operations on her brain to greater expand her capabilities. However, there were many side effects: stunted growth, personality and mood disorders, memory lapses, migraines, anxiety, and paranoia. It seemed that subject 238J was not going to be successful enough for actual use. She was to be used for further testing of side effects and then terminated.
Somehow, subject 238J escaped and ended up in New York City. However, something happened. Maybe it was the stress (physically or mentally) or some unforeseen effect of all the brain surgeries, but subject 238J's got amnesia. All her memories of everything that had happened to her, who she was and where she was from, all of it was gone. And so the young girl found herself alone, scared, and confused in the streets of New York City. All she had with her was a gray baseball cap and a blue dress. On the tag of the dress was written "PROPERTY OF NIA". The girl assumed that must be her name.
Nia spent two days on the streets before the first vision came. She was hiding in a back alley behind some apartment buildings when it happened. It felt like her brain was going to explode and she couldn't help but scream in pain. Someone called the cops and when they found the girl she was curled up in a ball trembling, mumbling about some old lady who was going to die. The police tried to figure who the girl was and where she came from but nothing could be found. She was sent to an orphanage just outside the city run but some nuns. She had only been there two days when she had another vision. Two weeks later, all the nuns were terrified of Nia. She would randomly start screaming and then start rambling about something small or big, wonderful to horrible, that was going to happen. Out of the seven visions Nia had while at the orphanage, the nuns personally saw four of them come true. They all thought she was possessed.
It was then that a letter came from Starlight Academy. That night, the nuns had Nia packed up and out the door. And so Nia found herself again alone, scared, and confused, headed to some unknown school with only the promise that it was a place that someone like her could be safe.
