Name: Madhukar Bhattacharya
Age: Approximately 47
Birthday: March 3rd (Self Chosen)
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Category: Citizen
Career: Fae Hunter / Fruit Vendor
Appearance Description:
Madhukar stands at six feet and three inches tall, with an agile build. He has short, greying hair and claw-like scars on the right side of his face as well as through the left side of the mouth. His skin is slightly tanned and his eyes are now orange, having once been dark brown. He has a thuggish air that tells most people to steer clear.
Madhukar is accompanied by a large, white serpent named Galwynn. Galwynn is about twenty feet long, with feathered ears and orange eyes. It wears five golden bands and smells faintly of flowers. Galwynn is capable of flight and, being a spirit, is capable of sensing other spirits as well.
Personality Description: A large part of Madhukar’s personality is his intense aversion to all things fae. Once a hatred, he has mellowed out over the decades to the point where he is capable of investigating the nature of the fae he encounters rather than shooting first and asking questions later. Quite a zealot in his youth, he has committed numerous crimes against fae in the past, though the definition of “crimes” depends on the context. Some were committed in self defense, others for the sake of others. Nowadays, Madhukar looks upon his younger years with shame, now understanding that some fae were probably undeserving of his violence. Older fae still set him on edge, however, while younger ones make him nervous because he can never tell if their innocence is feigned or a genuine result of their youth. In either case, he is unwilling to stick around when a fae is present and is more comfortable stabbing one than talking with one.
Beyond that, Madhukar is the sort of man who tries to be impassive and stoic with varying degrees of success. His main flaw is that he suffers from chronic hero syndrome and is almost completely unable to resist helping anybody in need no matter how big or small their troubles. All they have to do is ask for assistance and sometimes not even that. Because of this, he is constantly broke, having given his money to charity. He fares poorly when in solitude and constantly seeks out the company of others, given if they interact with him not at all. Being alone for long periods of time makes him twitchy and less grounded in reality.
Another of Madhukar’s traits is that he cares. A lot. He becomes quickly protective of things and people that he perceives as being in his circle. People don’t need to do much to be counted as “in the circle.” They merely need to act decently around him and he will defend them to the death. Betrayal is, unfortunately, something that he accepts as inevitable. He sleeps with one eye open no matter how safe his surroundings might seem.
Active Abilities: Bounty of the Gods - Madhukar is able to create divine tasting ambrosia (food) and nectar (drink) from any amount and variety of fruits. Any magical fruits will lose their powers during the process but make the item in question more flavorful and delicious. Eating these items will keep the consumer magically fed for a week.
Cornucopia - From his passive, Madhukar occasionally may summon magical fruits.
Passive Abilities: Cornucopia - Madhukar has the ability to randomly generate one handful of fruit after a random interval of time. This fruit has a ninety-nine percent chance of being a normal fruit with no magical abilities. However, it also has a one percent chance of being something like the peaches of immortality or the apples of youth (of which only will be produced instead of a handful).
Faetouched - Due to years being lost among the fae, Madhukar has acquired an immunity to their magic due to his soul taking on a tinge of their power.
Soulbound - Madhukar has a partnership with a flying serpent spirit named Galwynn. He and Galwynn are considered soulbound, meaning that in order to destroy one, the other must be destroyed as well. They are unable to be more than a mile away from each other but so long as the partnership persists, Madhukar has access to Galwynn's ability to see through magic and perceive the supernatural for what they are. He also gain's Galwynn's ability to understand all languages.
Biography: Madhukar remembers nothing of his original family. He was switched with a changeling shortly after birth and as a result, grew up in a court of the fae. His captors told them little of who they were, forever remaining mysterious, terrifying figures of his youth. He was kept alongside other unnamed human children as a mixture between cattle and slaves, forced to do the bidding of the fae. Sometimes, the fae simply found multiple ways to torture the children in their care. For example, taking inspiration from classic fairy tales, they made children dance to exhaustion and even death while wearing red-hot iron shoes. Some children they threw into barrels of broken glass and nails, dragging them up and down the hallways of the court. On one occasion, they rounded up all of the girls between the ages of ten and thirteen and made them try on shoes. Whoever had a foot too large had their toes cut off while whoever had a foot too small had it broken and stretched until it fit.
Other times, however, the fae resorted to methods of mental torture over physical. Madhukar in particular was affected by long periods of time spent in a soundproof room made of mirrors with a single dangling light. He was kept there for varying lengths of time and given food at random times at the day. Unable to tell how much time was passing, he was forced to trust that each meal came at roughly the same time. They didn’t and the fae knew it, messing with his perception of time. The solitude made him intensely paranoid of the dark and silences and soon he would start to hear phantom sounds. Sometimes things got bad enough that he even started to see other people in the room with him, or hallucinate hallways leading out of the room, only to smack into the mirrors. All of the mirrors were two-way, so that the observing fae could be entertained by the child inside slowly losing sanity.
At the age of eight, however, Madhukar’s powers manifested. Immediately, his value in the fae court soared. While his powers were apparently worthless as human fruits paled in comparison to the addictive properties of fae food, the fact that he had any abilities at all was greedily taken note of and he was auctioned to the highest bidder. The fae who purchased him kept him as a servant and trophy among other things. The abuse became more mental rather than physical as the fae was wary of permanently damaging his abilities. During this time, Madhukar met Galwynn, a serpent spirit who had been enslaved by the fae some centuries prior. Both were considered part of the fae’s menagerie of exotic creatures and as such were frequently displayed with one another.
One day, fortune smiled upon the young boy. His powers produced rather than a pound of fruit, a single sumptuous looking apple. When it was tested on an elderly human slave, the human reverted back to their prime before the eyes of the fae. Immediately, the fae were put into a frenzy. The one who owned Madhukar was exceptionally pleased with this development and, for the first time that Madhukar could remember, he was rewarded rather than punished or ignored for his accomplishment. Suddenly, he was worth so much more to the court -after all, if he could produce the apples of youth, what other magical fruits could appear? Overnight, the alliances in the court rearranged themselves.
Thereafter, Madhukar became a jealously guarded pet in the fae’s household. He was still mentally abused but the fae also treated him almost kindly from time to time, an act that only made him more terrified of it because it was suddenly breaking its previous pattern of behavior and he could no longer be sure of its actions. He did not have to fear for long, however. Soon, word of abilities had spread and other fae, curious of his abilities, began to approach his owner, first politely and then more and more aggressively. Eventually, a miniature war broke out between his owner and another fae lord. During an attack on the fae’s household, Madhukar found his captors distracted and managed to escape. Remembering Galwynn, however, he returned to free the spirit, an act that nearly ended with him being captured again but gained the spirit’s undying loyalty.
From there, the two were on the run from the fae. They spent decades lost in the fae realms and Madhukar steadily became more and more used to their magic, developing a resistance and then immunity to it. Together, they launched guerilla style attacks on wandering fae, disregarding gender, status, and age in a mad, desperate streak of vengeance. When their revenge was satiated, however, Madhukar felt hollow and uncertain of what next to do. Passing briefly back into the human realms, he met a scout from Manta Carlos who directed him to the island. That was the first time that he encountered fae that were polite towards him and even friendly - both of which deeply unsettled him and disturbed his sense of righteousness. It took some wrestling with personal demons but eventually he realized that not all fae were the vicious monsters he grew up around, though he never quite grew out of his fear.
Leaving the island, he spent the next decade traveling between the human and fae realms, mostly to retrieve and return stolen children and changelings. He was harsh and strict at first with the young fae before learning to become more gentle around them, as many had grown up and adopted the characteristics of their human parents and were horrified to learn of their true ancestry. Many of these changeling children he took with him back to Manta Carlos where they could forge a new life. Others chose to stay with their human families, however, and Madhukar was reluctant to convince them otherwise.
After a good run of things, Madhukar decided to return and settle on Manta Carlos. He still goes on missions to the fae realms from time to time but for the most part, he considers himself semi-retired.
Resources: Madhukar owns an apartment and a fruit vending cart. Beyond that, he has few personal possessions and most of his income goes towards charity.
Additional Information: Madhukar has a collection of cold iron weapons specifically for hunting fae. These include daggers, swords, guns, and bullets.

Cornucopia - From his passive, Madhukar occasionally may summon magical fruits.
Apples of Youth - From Norse mythology.
Highly coveted, this fruit restores the youth of whoever consumes it. "Youth" is defined here as whatever age the consumer considered to be their prime. They will then continue aging from that point on.
Banana of Healing - From Hawaiian mythology.
The banana is considered to be the body of a god of healing and by proxy is capable of healing the worst of hurts and illnesses. A person who eats this fruit will be instantly healed of all wounds and afflictions that they have at the moment.
Peaches of Immortality - From Chinese mythology.
Another sought after fruit, eating a peach of immortality temporarily prevents the consumer from dying of even the most heinous wounds. Each peach can be eaten in one large bite; the peach does not increase the body's natural pace of healing and its effects only last for a month.
Pomegranate of Knowledge - From Christianity.
Commonly mistaken for an apple, this fruit temporarily bestows the consumer with full self-awareness and deep knowledge of right and wrong. They will understand the full consequences of all of their actions. For example, the worst of hypocrites would realize their own hypocrisy and what that means for their entire set of ideals. Similarly, an amoral person would find themselves suddenly truly understanding the difference between right and wrong.
