lost my armor (open)

"Armor!" Kimiko threw her hands in the air, attempting to summon the armor she so effortlessly summoned a week ago. Nothing. She jumped, screaming 'Armor!' again, but she just landed and almost tripped on a rock. She kicked the rock. Stupid rock! It ruined her jump, and it probably ruined her 'spell' too.

She decided she should start smaller.

She blocked with her arms. "Shield!" Again. "Shield!" Again. "Shield!"

She groaned, dropping to her knees.

She was able to do it before. When the cafeteria was burning, she leaped into danger with no fear or hesitation. It felt effortless at the time, as if her shield and her armor were as easy to summon as her sword, and in that single, fleeting moment, she was the fairy tale prince she always dreamed of being. She didn't understand what she was doing wrong now.

Kimiko leaped to her feet and summoned her sword easily. With one, smooth swing, she whacked it at a tree. The sword, unhappy about the fact it was being used out of frustration, bent like a cheap plastic toy. Great! Now it was conspiring against her too!

She groaned, dropping the useless item on the ground and kicking it out of the way. It sliced her shoe and she reeled back in pain, not anticipating the solid weight of the piece of metal. Kimiko let out a string of 'ow ow ow ow', grabbing her foot comically before colliding the back of her head against a branch. She fell backwards onto a bush.

This day was not one of her best days.

Eve barely paid any mind to those around her. She didn't need to, as they all seemed to part around her like the Red Sea or completely ignore her presence.

She wanted to roll her eyes wearily, but she showed little aside from a small sniff of disdain as she settled down under what was being called 'her' tree. It was on the outskirts of the area, a practically isolated spot with at least five to seven feet between her area and the next.

She opened her notebook, content to review her notes from earlier that day, when a sudden and frighteningly near crash stole her attention from the book. She jumped up and turned towards the sound, delicate features tugging into a small frown when she saw it was just another student. Still, she checked that her gloves, pants, and long-sleeved shirt allowed not a glimpse of her skin to be had before staring down at the downed figure.

"What do you think you're doing, interrupting my studying time?" She asked imperiously, slate gray gaze boring haughtily to Kimiko.

Kimiko jumped. She didn't think anyone was there! If she did, she would've been more careful with the sword and, possibly, try to impress her a little. This was the worst first impression to make. She hated looking like a goof in front of girls, especially pretty girls.

She scratched the back of her head sheepishly. "Well, that's, uh, you see... I was practicing?"

She got back on her feet, circling the branch so she was standing in front of the girl. She bowed politely in apology.

"I'm sorry I bothered you. I honestly thought I was alone! Can I... sit over here?" She pointed at the spot a few meters in front of her with a disarmingly charming smile. "I like making the acquaintance of pretty girls."

She scoffed at the excuse, the image of irritated exasperation. "If you want to practice, go to the sports fields!" She sighed, watching as the boy stood up to properly talk to her.

"Still, you should be more careful. I'm sure you wouldn't like it if you hurt someone just because you were practicing." Her tone made it clear she wasn't impressed, nearly bordering on acidic.

After a pause, she narrowed her eyes, studying Kimiko thoughtfully. "... You must be new, then." She added, more to herself. Anyone that even remotely knew who Eve was steered clear of her. "Just... don't try to touch me." She muttered eventually, snorting softly at the boy's charm.

Eve, however, simply returned to her notebook and settlied down again. Maybe she could just avoid the odd boy and study in peace as she had first planned to do.

Eventually, the boy would get the message, or someone would warn him away from her. Nothing new there, at least.

The girl was prickly, but she was prickly in the way she was trying to protect something, she thought. It was the sort of prickly that just invited Kimiko to attempt to be friends with her. It seemed like she had been hurt before and she was trying to avoid getting hurt now, at least, that was the usual case for all the girls she encountered that were the same way.

"I'm not new," she said, nodding. But she had never seen the girl before. It was probably because, most of the time, Kimiko was surrounded by women. She was always friendly around them and found that they liked being friendly around her too. She just needed to do the same thing for her!

She pulled her legs to her chest, tilting her head to see what was in her notebook. She didn't see anything from her angle.

"...And I'm not going to touch you without your consent, by the way. That's just rude," she added softly. "Call me Kimi. What's your name?"

Hm. Well, wasn't that a surprise? Eve wondered if she was losing her touch, as it were. But no, when she'd first entered the courtyard, everyone had avoided her like the plague, so it couldn't be any perceived softening of her icy reputation. Well, she couldn't expect for everyone in the Academy to have heard of her. How annoying. Still, it wouldn't be long before the boy knew better and would leave her alone.

She cast a glance at the boy from beneath her lashes, remaining silent for a beat before blinking slowly. "Hey, Kimiko's a girl's name, yeah? You look like a boy, though." She said bluntly, not bothering to censor herself. As usual.

She returned most of her attention to her notebook, eyes roaming the page. "My name is Evelyn Winters, but I do not wish to hear you use it." She murmured-- even distracted, she didn't stop trying to be a bitch. Or had she grown so used to her mask that it was a part of her...?

"Just stay quiet and don't be annoying, yes?"

Kimiko grinned. "I'll take that as a compliment!"

She really did take it as a compliment. She expended a lot of effort into looking like a man, even going so far as to wear the male school uniform. She was glad it was working. The jig was up, though, so she pulled out her scrunchy and let her hair fall to its natural length.

"Wait, so..." She scratched her chin, confused by the mixed things she was saying. "You don't want me to use your name? Should I give you a nickname? Porcupine, maybe?"

She nodded at her orders, laying down on the grass and resting her chin in her hands. "Do you ever get lonely?" she said, out of the blue, but it wasn't out of the blue for Kimiko. She had a sharp eye when it came to women.

Eve paused to eye the girl oddly before her gaze traveled back down to her notes, remaining silent. Mentally, however, she was groaning. 'Why did I get stuck with the weird one?' For a while, it seemed as if she would be keeping her silence, though a muscle in her eye twitched a bit at the girl's nickname for her. Would she get no peace today?

She tuned out whatever babble the girl was undoubtedly about to launch into, turning the page of her notebook, but seemed to freeze for a split second before continuing on as she had been.

Lonely? Of course she was lonely, more so in the beginning of her self-imposed exile, she supposed, than now. But she still felt the lack of friends, the emptiness always following her wake. That didn't mean she'd do anything about it, of course, but she always felt the distance between her and others. Her mother's weekly letters were her only solace, but she'd keep it that way if it meant there woldn't be a repeat of what happened to her father.

Eve's next silence was somewhat telling, though other than that first pause, there was no other outward expression of her answer.

Kimiko perked up with a triumphant grin on her face. She knew it! She totally called it! She sat back up, not caring her shirt was covered with grass and dirt and what else.

"I knew it! So that's your problem! Well, we have to fix that pronto!" Kimiko dragged herself next to Porcupine's side, close enough that it would look like they were two friends chatting in the Courtyard, but not close enough that they would touch. She bumped her own feet excitedly. She was shaking like an excited puppy.

They must've been quite the sight — the Ice Queen and the most popular girl in her grade. "I'll be your friend. We can hang out and maybe we'll manage to get rid of that big frown on your face! I have a lot of friends too, so obviously we can find others that share your interests. What do you like to do?"

She stifled the exasperated sigh that threatened to escape as she closed her notebook. She'd never get any studying done at this rate.

"I do not have a problem, nor do I need your... assistance." She murmured, and while her voice was soft, the tone was absolutely frigid, as was the look in her gray eyes. Anyone else would have been warded off already, as Eve's desire to remain alone was quite obvious, though Kimiko appeared much too enthusiastic about this.

"I have no interest in whatever inane plot you're trying to drag me into, and I certainly do not wish to spend anymore time in your irritating presence than absolutely necessary." The words were merciless and Eve gave little mind to the girl's feelings. She didn't even bother answering her question. "I care little for your simpleminded friends, and even less for you. I have no need or desire for... friends."

That last part was a complete lie, but she had long since grown used to her natural need for social interaction and affection. And if she managed to actually shake this excitable girl off, then she could go back to that isolation. She ignored the part of her that yearned to agree to Kimiko's offer, locking down on it with ease of practice .
