"It's so odd how people don't look at me as if I'm a freak. Or at least, not because of my power." She hummed aloud, allowing the silence of the woods to carry her words away. It wasn't like there would be anyone out here, anyway, since dawn was only just beginning to break between the white clouds. It was the only reason she'd allowed the cool, caustic facade to come down, a gentler light flooding normally frigid slate gray eyes.

She supposed, she added in her thoughts, that it helped that every student on the island, and even the teachers, were uniquely gifted just as she was.

"Or rather, cursed." She muttered. Even now, relaxed as she was, she kept a certain coolness about her, distancing herself from her own emotions. She couldn't afford to allow her confusion to influence her power, thrice-cursed as it was, and cause more chaos. Evelyn Winters never wanted it to come to that ever again, although he somewhat deserved it.

Suddenly shaking her head to clear her thoughts, lest they go down a dark, dark path that often starred in her nightmares, she started when she heard the faint crunching of leaves and twigs. Fearing it was one of the students, she quickly donned an air of cold indifference with the efficiency borne of constant use and turned, shoulders all but sagging in relief when she saw it was just a small black cat.

The feline's eyes were an odd, bright green, but she paid no mind to it, distracted by the wistful longing to pet the little cat. But no, her empathy worked on animals as well-- and hadn't that been quite the... experience--, and she would only end up feeling the feline's baser, more muted and simpler emotions. The cat would most likely be frightened by the overload her own wildly flashing emotions would give in return, and that would be that.

Even if she was able to, however, she wouldn't have had the time, as once the feline got a good, observant look of her, sniffed the air several times, seemed to deem her as insignificant and scurried away just as quickly as he appeared.

Sighing wearily even though the day was just beginning, Eve frowned to herself-- why was there a cat out in the woods. Maybe it was just someone's pet; probably one of the citizens of the town-- and continued on her morning trek through the woods, intending on keeping her mask up even if she didn't run into anyone else.
