Name:
Isaiah Eldridge

Age:
19
Birthday:
January 28th

Gender:
Demiboy

Career:
N/A

Appearance Description:
He is striking in ways he would rather not be. No matter how many clothes he throws on, his eyes will give him away every time. Dark, menacing scleras encompassing vibrant amber iris' sounds exotic on paper, but in reality they serve as a distancer between him and every one else. It's not just his eyes that are inhuman, but his body, too. Almost 100% cybernetic, Isaiah is burdened by the uncanny valley. Even the skin of his face is not real, with the only organic parts left of him being his brain and core nervous system.

Stood upright he is 5'10", though he cannot walk and is wheelchair bound for most of his waking hours. His hair is a soft blonde with pale synthetic skin. The mechanical nature of the rest of his body is uncovered. He had vents on his chest and back that light up and steam when stressed or anxious. Despite being made of metal and plastic, he has no superhuman featurs because of it - if only a slightly harder punch and is less threatened by bodily harm. He sinks in deep water and cannot swim because of his weight. He also cannot get physically sick, though can develop psychosomatic syptoms.

Personality Description:
Isaiah is quite a melancholic person - having been shifted into this universe through intense trauma, his view on his life in Manta Carlos is subdued. Riddled with anxiety and depression and an ever growing presence of schizophrenia and epilepsy, he has learnt to fear much of what makes life normal, or worth living. He has a hard time viewing his new home as anything but a fantasy, or a brain-time hallucination. Most of the time he's content thinking he is dead.

Once he opens up he can be friendly and playful, though he lacks the energy to go far on his own. When he is open and feels safe his poor sense of humour starts to emerge - he is not funny. For his friends he will at least try. It is easy for him to derail happy conversations with insight into his skewered view of the world.

He wakes up early most days, to see the light spill over the horizon, and is very fond of exploring the island though he can do so only rarely due to him being wheelchair bound. Learning to walk is proving much more difficult than he first expected. His fascination with natural beauty and man made beauty stems from the borderline dystopia of his home universe, which had been plagued by extreme weather and global warming.

He spends most of his time reading and roaming the grounds of the Yarrow Institute for oprhans and lost souls, looking out across the bay. He often jokes how he feels he should write poetry, but doesn't, because he'd be terrible at it.

Powers:
Astral Jumping

o LEAP
- When under extreme stress (i.e. fits of seizures/near death experiences) Isaiah has a 0.0000001% chance of being able to project his spirit into a different universe and manifest within it. This is how he got to Manta Carlos, after a series of near fatal seizures placed him into a coma in his home universe.

0 OBSERVER
- With enough time and focus, Isaiah can detach his soul from his body and project a certain distance in an invisible state. He can only do this in places he is familiar with and for only a few minutes at a time before his soul is pulled back to his body.

(Isaiah's cybernetic body does not grant any extra abilties)

Biography:
Isaiah was born in a world far different from this one. Humanity had almost destroyed the earth, and became tight rope walkers balancing along the survival line. For the every day person, there's not much they can do, except re-live the glories of a past earth in virtual reality, while the one around them is slowly salvaged.

Raised amongst the last remnants of the Woodland Cree First Nation in Gods Lake, Manitoba, Isaiah had a closer connection to the land than most people in his world could ever dream of. Fish swam in the waters, deer and snow hare populated the fir forests and surrounding hillsides. Though his father was not of any Nation, he was accepted and taught as any other would be. Danced between the natural life of Manitoba and the steel skylines of Chicago, Isaiah had been given high hopes.

But he was plagued with intense pains from 12 years old, with doctors unable to pinpoint the exact cause of the cramps and cold flushes that returned without fail every month or so. His education halted and by the time his body began to die it was too late to salvage it . Aged 15, his nervous system was transfered into a cybernetic body. The cause of his internal decay was never revealed to him.

Seizures began a year later, quickly spiralling into epilepsy. His brain was hostile, rejecting the new body it found itself within. All that could be done was hospitalisation, and a neural distraction - virtual reality.

While his family came under more stress, with the medical bills spiralling into the absurd, and two other children to care for, Isaiah was forced to abandon his education, and instead spend as much time as possible within a false reality. He made friends, and enemies, and for a while found a purpose. But the rare visits from his family - after expressing deep horror for the new state their son was in - halted. One day a letter was dropped on his bedside table. They were gone, had fled the country to escape the monstrous $12 million debt they had been landed in.

With the pressure of medical costs to be passed onto him if he survived, his condition only worsened. With no hobbies outside virtual reality, no education and few friends, towards his 20th birthday, the point to getting through was more and more hazy. Family had run, friends had lied, and he'd already endured a years worth of life by himself in a hospital room. His 19th Christmas and birthday flew by without so much as a card. When his final Christmas was spent alone, despite his friends promises, he stopped fighting.

Two weeks before his 20th birthday, Isaiah was overcome by an intense epileptic fit, and was plunged into a coma. This trauma, the sadness and bitterness that accompanied it, flung his spirit out of its reality, and he manifested on a beach on Manta Carlos in midwinter. He was found by a young couple and taken to the police station. After telling his story a number of times, they determined that he was gifted, but too shaken to be flung right into normal life on the island.

He was taken in by a local institute for runaways and orphans, a quaint statley house on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by acres of woodland, farmland and coves. Here, the patrons of the institute provide comfortable residence for the lost, offering food, shelter, education and support. Isaiah has not yet fully accepted or adjusted to his new home, but his carers assure he is making good progress.
