Rolling up his sleeves and pantlegs, Taemin excitedly skipped out on a day of lessons to go visit the beach. It wasn't like he had anything incredibly important to do today-- besides school. That could easily be made up, though, and the boy didn't worry too heavily about it. Slathering sunblock all over his exposed skin, Taemin took nothing except a small bag of dried fruits, figuring that he would probably get hungry along the journey. The day was plenty warm, more than warm enough to be a beach day. It had obviously been a good choice to come out to the beach today.

Trudging along through the sand, Taemin saw a lone man, waving a metal detector around. Pirates! Pirates came to the beach often, didn't they? He bet he could find a pirate if he looked hard enough. With his new goal in mind, Taemin excitedly skittered around, trying to find anyone that remotely looked pirate-y. Finding no one, Taemin slouched, temporarily bumming some shade underneath an abandoned umbrella. Taking out his small bag of fruits, Taemin scooted to the edge of the shade, his legs crossed underneath him as he stared up at the various passing adults, scanning them for any pirate-like features.

Partially hidden by some boulders next to the water, there was a little rowboat washed up on shore. Kind of. Somebody, probably just some kids, had dug this huge pit that the boat was now caught in. At least it was filled with water, though, and at certain intervals, the waves would come up, overflowing it and getting the rowboat to bob with them.

Okay, ow, no more running into rocks. Now that Li Zhong Xian was off his speedboat high, he was really starting to feel it in his... hull. The sad part was that those were rocks that he knew were going to be there. It just maybe seemed like a good idea at the time to see if somebody had taken them away or something? Because to be completely fair and all, they were underwater rocks and lots of people liked rocks so clearly people could have taken the rocks because rocks.

Gahhh, I've been out for too long. It's making my mind do weird things. At that moment, water swept into the pit. Hehe.... Bob. Bob. Bob. Each word was timed perfectly with said action. Bo- Oh my God, what I am doing? Okay, fine!

The next minute, Li Zhong Xian stood up from behind the boulders, stretching his regained limbs. Also stumbling a bit as he remembered what it was like to be on land again. Oh, wow, okay, this kind of hurts -I think I'm hungry. Food or medical, food or medical...

Food. Definitely food.

Squinting up at a stranger that passed, Taemin almost followed him before setting back down, deciding to wait for the perfect pirate. Scanning up and down the beach, Taemin curled his knees into his chest, leaning forwards a little. He was still completely inside the shady part, but he still could see a good ways away.
The sight of a man emerging from rocks caught his attention the most. He couldn't really see him very well up close, but he looked average height, dark hair and white. Were those bandages? Forgetting his previous mission, Taemin stood quickly, his bag of fruits clutched tightly in his fingers.

As he trotted closer, he could see that the man even looked like he was a pirate. He had definitely hit the jackpot this time! His eyes practically sparkled, and his mouth made a perfect 'o' shape. Stunned at his discovery of a pirate, Taemin immediately rushed up to the man. "You're a pirate! A real pirate? Where is your boat, mister? Do you have a boat? Do you have a large boat? I bet your boat is massive. Can I see your boat? I love boats! Pirates are my favourite, but I almost didn't think I would even see one today! I've only seen families and children on the beach today. Do you often hang out at the beach? I bet you do since you're a pirate. " Taking a breath to pant wildly for air, Taemin immediately thrust out his bag of assorted fruits. "Do you want a fruit? I packed them myself I was going to eat them all but if you want one you can have one! I've never shared with a pirate before. Oh! But pirates don't share, do they? They take what they want..." Pouting for a second as this hit him, Taemin perked back up. "But you can have all of these if you like! I have lots more at home."

"Um, what?"

Why was there some blond kid all getting excited about... whatever? And what was with that expression on his face? Oh my God, his face looks like a Teletubby like that. Should I tell him? No, wait. Maybe he knows. Yeah. Um. Maybe he knows. Wait, is this even a he? There was an Adam's apple so the answer seemed to be an affirmative. Really, though. The kid's eyes were sparkling. Was that supposed to be his power or something? That really kind of freaked Li Zhong Xian out.

But anyways, hey! Somebody recognized him! Kind of. "Yeah, that's right! I'm a pirate!" he said proudly, glad that somebody finally could tell what he was. "And let me tell ya, I have the best boat on the seven seas! I don't care what anybody else tells you! I don't know, I guess I'll show you some time if you really that interested. Not now, though, I need to go and hunt for something to eat.""

He probably wouldn't be able to change back for a little bit of time anyways. Being on the sea for a month straight was hard. Especially when a person tripled as their own captain, navigator, and vessel all in one. It was the first time that Li Zhong Xian ever tried to stay in boat form for that length of time. Usually, he'd go a week or so as a boat and then find a nice deserted rock to change back and sleep on at night.

"You're darn right that we just take whatever the hell we right!" He snatched the bag from the kid's hand, holding it up in an exaggerated gesture of triumph. "I'm going to eat them all and leave you with nothing! Nothing at all!" He let out a bark of appropriate sounding laughter before giving the bag back.

"Nah, that's okay, kid. Thanks, though, but I need some real food. Know any good places around here?"

A real pirate! Taemin almost lost his self-control and hugged the man. Almost. Bouncing up and down instead, the boy made a small squealing noise. "I bet you do, mister! I'd love to see your boat, I love boats. Especially the big huge pirate ship boats!" He especially loved those black flags that pirates always seemed to have affixed to their boats. The skull and cross bones definitely made a good impression in his mind.

The bag was ripped suddenly from his hands, and he forgot his previous statement, staring up at the stranger with a look of utter desolation. Those had been his fruits ...
Oh! But now he was being given them back. This wasn't so bad. He liked his man. "Real food!" Taemin had to think a minute — he hadn't been out and about on the island all that much, but he could definitely find food! "There's a hot dog stand a little ways back! Do you like hot dogs? I think they have a strange name. They don't look like dogs at all! They look like ... Well. Not dogs." Taemin scrunched up his face-- he couldn't really think of anything that hot dogs looked like, but he was sure they looked like something. "I bet that stand has hamburgers, too! Ohh, and sweets! I love sweets, don't you?"

"Ehh, I guess hot dogs are okay for now, yeah." Personally, Li Zhong Xian thought they were kind of mediocre but still leagues ahead of some of the weirder stuff he had been forced to scavenge over the years. Not that those times had been really bad or anything. They were actually pretty funny in hindsight and made for some decent stories. In any case, he was hungry, which meant that he would eat rocks if he had to.

"Oh, yeah, hamburgers definitely then! I haven't had a good one in months!" That was the one downer about being on the sea for so long -no good food. Also other boats. At least it seemed like the area around Manta Carlos was free enough for anything he felt like doing.

He had to perk up a little at the kid's next words. "Sweets? SWEETS?" It was the magic word for everything, really. "All right, I'm buying up all of them and I don't care if it takes up every penny I've got! Lead the way, er- kid." Actually, it probably wasn't the best idea to be calling somebody a kid if they were only a little bit shorter than him.

"Sorry, I'm Li Zhong Xian. And you are?"

Hot dogs and hamburgers sounded excellent right now, actually. He was quite glad that he had suggested it. "Months, wow! You're awfully strange, mister, I don't think I could go that long without eating a hamburger..." Hamburger wasn't entirely his favourite food, but it was definitely up there with things he would willingly eat all day. "Cake! Do you like cake, too?" Yes! He had scored another friend that seemed to love sweets as much as he did. Hamburger and cake sounded incredibly excellent at the moment.
Taemin nodded enthusiastically. He would lead the way to victory! It was now his duty entirely to lead the pair into the land of food.

"Oh! I'm Taemin. It's so nice to meet you." Sidling up close to Li, Taemin stared into the other man's eyes. After a short, awkward pause, he added quietly, "Sooo nice..." The moment broken, Taemin siezed the other man's hand, bouncing in his spot for a moment before pointing at the direction he had last seen a food truck. "I saw the hamburger stand over there somewhere!" Tugging on his new friend, Taemin almost started glowing with his excitement. All in a few minutes, he had gotten a new friend and was already going to eat food with him. Soon, they would absolutely be Best Friends.

Okay. This kid is kind of weird Coming from Li Zhong Xian, that might have been a big deal but he still liked to maintain a healthy amount of faith in other people. Maybe he was just quirky or something. Or had streaks of strangeness. Basically, Li Zhong Xian was giving himself an excuse not to label anybody on the island as weird, because deep down, he knew that everybody was. Everybody. But he supposed that calling so many people weird was a little rude so he tried not to.

Still, the thing with the stare and the whisper? Totally weird. But that's all right! It wasn't like he hadn't seen stranger or anything, nope. Like, there was that bird or not bird or whatever that always seemed to be following boats going to the island. So anyways, he let the boy -sorry, Taemin- lead him away towards food, because Li Zhong Xian was clearly a man of priorities. And, well. Food.

"So, um, yeah, how are things?" He coughed awkwardly. Because Li Zhong Xian might have been a man of priorities but he certainly wasn't a man of eloquence. "You know, weather, school, filler. Hey, you're Korean, right? From the name and all, you know. I've been up to Korea a few times. Nice place; can't understand the people but that's cool."

He really didn't know what else to say, and his stomach filled that moment of silence with a loud growl. He glared at it accusingly for a few seconds, inexplicably feeling as if he had been betrayed in some way. "Uh, I like your hair?"

Tossing a glance behind him, Taemin tilted his head in confusion. What did Li mean by things? There were an awful lot of things in his life, and far too many subjects to cover in such a short space of time.
His eyes widened briefly as the question was clarified, and Taemin nodded eagerly. "Oh yes. School is good. Weather seems to be holding up. Lots of rain recently, though. I like the rain. I was born in Korea, but I don't speak Korean. I moved too early, and my parents never taught me." He wanted to learn, and very badly. It was incredibly embarrassing when people found out he was Korean and he had to admit that he couldn't even say simple greetings.

A scary sounding growl filled the silence, and Taemin gave a small start. His hand reached up tentatively, one finger twirling a lock of hair around it. "Oh, um. Thank you. I like your ... Hat. Oh! But look, there it is!" His finger violently jabbing at a little hut stationed on the edge of the sand, smoke and steam pouring from the little pipes above it. Now that they were near, he could smell the things cooking. "Oh, it smells so good. I bet they taste just as good too." Latching onto Li's hand, Taemin tugged excitedly, towing his new friend out to the food stand. He was hungry, and the scent that hung in the air was only spurring it on.

Li Zhong Xian

Foooood.

God, he could almost hear it singing to him. The smell was making his mouth water; it just smelled so good. Although truth be told, he would have thought that brunt anything would have been fine, too. It was a good thing that he was actually with somebody right then because there was a fair chance that he would have gone and bitten the head off one of the squirrels playing in a nearby tree. It was a perfectly reasonable option, he thought. Forget cooking, there was absolutely nothing wrong with eating things raw. It just meant that the stuff was... fresh.

He nodded at Taemin's comment about the smell, and then again because he almost instantly forgot whether or not he had done it. The idea of food had fully captivated him. I'm going to buy everything. I don't care if I don't have the money for it or not. I'll just buy the entire hut. I'll kidnap the cook and force him to work for me. But no, that might be mean. Today was a good day! Today Li Zhong Xian was going to get a decent meal that was actually decently cooked and by other people. Today was a day when he actually had money from a quick shipping deal he had done a week back. Today was a day when there was this kind of weird kid with him but that was okay!

"I CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE LET'S GO!"

The man practically picked up Taemin and dashed over to the food hut with him.
