One little thing about being human was that it made it a lot harder to see where his feet were. In a place full of people and lacking in space, Alfredo struggled to keep track of how to walk, let alone make it all the way to where the food was.
Maybe he just wouldn’t get any lunch, he decided, quivering against the wall. It sounded a lot less terrifying. He didn’t have to eat that badly, did he? He could wait a few hours until it was quieter.
No! He had to do this. It was his right to have food! Alfredo made his way carefully towards where the food was being served, ears pressed against his head, little bits of garbage on the floor quickly moving out of the way. This was going to be okay – he was going to be okay –
This was about when he slipped on a wet patch on the floor and went sprawling into a table, knocking just about everything on it off. He clung to it, terrified, as things landed neatly around him, discarded trays of food landing neatly in a pile, and abandoned drinks not spilling a single drop. “Oh… oh gosh,†he mumbled. There were people looking at him now, and it was making him terribly upset, and most of his mind told him to hide under the table if only his legs would move.
