Anh Sang had stayed, despite the warnings of everybody around her. She was the student council president, after all! If she had left, what would have that said about her? From the very first announcement, she knew what her choice would be. After all, she had survived the d-dinosaur attack and the magic flu just fine! And she could fly, so. A tsunami couldn't be that bad, right?

As a new alert came in on her phone, the girl did a double take. Dangerous mermaids? The idea was ridiculous at first. Mermaids were supposed to be nice and pretty and sing songs all the time. Everybody knew that! There were mermaids at the school, even... But maybe she only thought all of that because people thought that the bad ones were all already gone?

The water was already starting to slosh its way into the classroom where she and a few others had taken shelter in. Down the hall, she could hear other people shouting to each other, something about getting to higher ground, the tower. Looking for people who could teleport out or take the water away. Something about running away from mermaids.

Well, that was just plain silly. Running away didn't actually do anything, and she knew that from t-that. That one thing. With the dinosaur.

"Okay!" She announced, amidst the confusion. She felt a little nervous but! She was president now! She had to actually be doing things! "I'm going to fight some mermaids now! I'll be back soon, okay?" With that said, she felt a bit better, like a weight was lifted. She began to leave the room, opening the already cracked door before stopping again.

"Um, yeah, if anybody wants to come, that would be good, too, but whatever is fine!"

Atlus stood right outside the school building, the rain, the storm, he had seen a few like it in his lifetime, though there was something off about this Kyros Tsunami. He looked around, attempting to use his helmet to see the "storms" true intentions, it was a long shot.

"Damn..." Atlus muttered aloud, he was to out of practice with that helmet, and besides would he even be able to read a storms mind?

His armor was holding up fine, though his cloak was flapping around violently in the heavy winds, his massive sword was still slung over his back, he had to use it a few times to help people get to safety, though he might of scared a few into thinking he was a crazed killer or something.

Whether or not anybody was following her, Anh Sang was already on the job. With the water already splashing up into the Academy, she had simply opened one of the windows in the hallway and jumped right out. The butterflies were under her feet in an instant, helping her down. The wind was blowing angrily, throwing her hair into an awful mess.

Down by the school, there was a lone figure on the ground, dressed in strange clothing. For a moment, Anh Sang thought that he might have been one of the mermaids, but that couldn't have possibly been right. For one, he didn't have a fish tail. For another, he was dressed like some kind of a Power Ranger. And if there was one thing that Anh Sang knew, it was that you could always trust the Power Rangers.

"Hey, mister!" She shouted, cupping her hands around her mouth in an attempt to gain some volume. "Are you out to fight the mermaids, too?"

The water was truly everywhere now. She hadn't seen it at first. Who knew what was lurking out there now?

Atlus turned his head, he didnt see anyone, but he could hear a young voice. He heard a select few voices echo in his head every once in awhile, but this wasnt one he recognized.

Atlus looked down at the young child next to him, asking him if he was going to fight mermaids with her? He had defiantly fought a few fish people before, and he didnt question the young child going out to fight, she looked to be about the same age as Atlus when he started fighting. He put a hand on either hip and leaned down to meet her gaze.

"I suppose so, but after that ive got to figure out how to get inside that storm, somethings up with it and I dont like it."

He got back up and cracked his knuckles, the golden arm attached to him pulsating with electricity as he did.

Sorin had been running through the school corridors for a while now, helping younger children, searching for teleporters, establishing secure shelters. Overall, he had been busy, not helped by the storm, robbing him of his primary source of power, nor by the sun spirit roaring in his head. "These ones are small! They are weak! Evil is reaching this island and you are wasting time!" Never before had the medium wanted to shut out his other half so much. Just make the voice stop. Of course, he couldn't, but...

As he rushed through another hallway, ankle-deep in water, his train of thought was interrupted by another alert and the loud declaration of a female student both. Mermaids? He had never encountered something like them before, his expertise lied more along the lines of ocean or water spirit. A storm spirit, perhaps, that would explain-

Did that girl just leap out the window? She had declared that she would fight mermaids, but she couldn't mean to...

Well, no matter. Sorin knew what he was doing. He couldn't do much good in here, but perhaps he could help her in fending off the invading creatures.

"Yes! The amphibian monstrosities shall know our searing flame! Flay flesh from bone, make judgement yours!"

This is still about helping the fellow students, not about adding fish heads to your wall, you shining shitstick...

With no further do, Sorin went to the same window himself. One foot up - gods it felt good to have them out of the water - and out he lept. With an experienced motion, he caught himself against the wall, the friction rapidly slowing his descent. Kick off, land on a lower roof, hop and with a thud, he landed a fair bit away from the young council president and her... Armored companion?

More importantly, owwwww. That was some serious aching in his legs. Sorin forced himself up to standing straight, wincing a bit as he did. Dammit, that jump would have been easy, had the sun had the damn decency to show itself.

"You are a fool."

Yeah yeah, shut up.

Trying to hide his pain, Sorin turned to the two other figures on the scene. He had to seem serious. Professional. Not at all a vaguely terrified college student. "Hey. You said you needed help with the mermaids, right? Well, I'm ready when you are." He was sounding a lot calmer than he was, honestly. You'd think growing up with these things would make it easier, but no, it really does not.

"Well, of course there's something wrong with the storm!" Anh Sang said in confusion. Wasn't that already common knowledge? People should have already known that the tsunami was magical, kind of. "Do you mean that something worse is going to happen, or-?" Sure, the place was flooded already but it was important to remember that Anh Sang was from Vietnam. Compared with things that normally happened in her part of the world, this one that was hitting the island was almost... tame.

"Let's deal with the mermaids first," Anh Sang decided, grateful that there was at least one other person there who seemed ready to take them on immediately. "We can't really do anything about the storm right now so let's just focus on what we can do now!"

The emergency messages were still rolling in. Anh Sang checked them quickly. "Okay, okay! It seems like they've got weapons with them." It wouldn't do any good for them to be all unarmed. She thought that the Power Ranger man was probably okay and had his own weapons but she and the other student were a different story.

Anh Sang glanced at her butterflies and willed them into different but still familiar forms. A staff made of hard white light fell in front of her, landing in her open palm. It was the same one she had made in her first months at the Academy, minus most of the decorations at the top. Now it looked more like a questionably functional halberd, more for putting on somebody's wall than fighting. It would hold, though. She was sure of that. It took a little more work to form a copy of that, even simpler in design but just as sturdy.

"Here, that's yours!" She shoved the simpler weapon into the boy's hands. "It should be okay!"

There was a ping on her phone as an alert came in. "Mermaids spotted on Academy campus! All students be on guard!"

Sorin blinked in surprise as a weapon was shoved into his hands by the younger student. Here they were, a college student, a ten year old (Sorin estimated) and a medieval knight, about to fight hordes of mermaids. One year in Starlight Academy and honestly, this was not what he had been expecting...

Before he could continue this particular train of thought (which Radiant would no doubt chastise him for), Sorin was interrupted by the flush of warmth that coursed through his hands and up his arms upon touching the weapon the girl had given him. Not to mention the sudden rush of strength spreading through his body. He had expected this blade to be a mere magical construct, but this was...

"Natural light." Radiant finished Sorin's thought for him. "We could not have asked for a better weapon."

Sorin actually cracked a smile, partially out of the natural rush of holding a physical object made of his primary power source, partially out of sheer exaltation over his dumb luck, but he didn't have time to say anything. His phone buzzed with another announcement, which was echoed by the small girl's.

"Here they come." Sorin announced, turning between his two companions. With a bit of hesitation, he turned towards the small asian girl again. "You sure you'll be okay doing this?" He had seen a lot of strange things since he came to the islands, but all things considered, she was just a little girl.

The mermaids where approaching. Atlus reached behind him, and unhooked his blade off of his back, then swung it around him to hold it with both hands. It was a tremendous greatsword, much larger and thicker than a normal sword, infact it was more like a massive slab of Iron. It was huge and impractical but it was Atlus' weapon.

Atlus looked down at his two companions "If for any reason I tell any of you two to run, then run..." he wasnt sure how strong these mermaids would be, and he didnt know if hed have to use the mask of bloodstone, but if he was put into a berserker state with it there was a good chance hed attack these two. Other than that he could tell the girl was certainly capable enough to fight, though he didnt know anything about this other person.

To be honest, Anh Sang wasn't really sure what running would do. That seemed awfully in-ef-fec-tive because while she was pretty sure that did nothing against a dinosaur (and had seen proof of that), she was only slightly less certain about mermaids. As long as there was dry land, well, yeah. She thought there was a pretty good chance she could outrun them. But while they were surrounded by water?

There was something really weird about the idea of fighting mermaids. After all, they were supposed to be nice, weren't they? Just pretty ladies with fish tails who sang a lot, or so Anh Sang thought, with Disneyfication running through her head. Maybe it was just her, too, but it seemed like the Academy was making a trend of having super serious stuff happen once a year or something. If that was true, then she had better use the rest of her term to figure out how to stop that. Then again, that was only her second year there. Maybe the third would be better.

As she stood there, she thought that she saw the glint of something strange in the corner of her eye. In the next immediate second, before she could even react, a harpoon whizzed passed her body, deflected only by the mess of butterflies that still gathered around her. She flinched back with an "eep" of surprise, clutching her weapon closer to herself. It seemed that was the opening shot for war because heaving themselves out of the shadows were a group of three armed merfolk.

Shields, the dinosaur attack had taught her, were a good thing. Very good. The best. Anh Sang hung back a little, pressing butterflies together into a netted web in front of her to help block incoming things. All they had to do was stay out of the (deep) water.

Wait, did I ever learn how to swim...?

Running? Sorin had come down here to help out, not run away. What good would running do? There's water and monsters everywhere, anyway. Then again, this knight guy did seem to know what he was talking about and the last time he had ignored the advice of those more experienced than him...

"Justice shall be dwelt swiftly and mercilessly, child. Stay on guard for when the abominations show!"

He had gotten that loudmouth as a reward for it all.

Annoying as he was, Radiant did have a point, though. This really wasn't the time to get distracted or second-guess every other comment. This was the time to act. Sorin glanced around, trying to get a bead on where the mermaids could be coming from. Then... What in the world was...

Sorin visibly tensed up, staring into the water. For just a moment, he could have sworn that he had caught something with his third eye. Radiant had without a doubt noticed something as well, as the sun spirit went quiet in a moment that in any other context would be absolute bliss to its host. Just to make sure his eyes hadn't played a trick on him, Sorin opened his mouth to address his companions. "Did either of you just see..."

His question was cut short, though, by a triad of harpoons that flew towards the group. The little girl - Sorin's biggest concern - managed to deflect hers, but Sorin just barely managed to dodge the projectile aimed at him, letting out a surprised "Whoa..!"

Though he threw himself to the side, his reflexes weren't nearly quick enough, and his shirt, not to mention shoulder, was thorn open by the thrown projectile. Sorin hissed in pain, but opted to ignore both the burning sensation in his arm and the roaring from Radiant in his head. It only took his body a good ten to fifteen seconds to regenerate the damage dealt, his shoulder smoothly shutting itself into a thin, fine scar. One of the boons of holding a weapon of solid light, in his case.

The college student didn't waste any time, calling out a quick "Here they come!" as the mermaids made themselves seen, before rushing towards the monsters at an alarming speed. Offense was the best defense and he was confident in his abilities now that his body was at the peak of its abilities.
