He would simply have to check with every person he met, to be sure they were actually from this world before they started to discuss things. Maybe it would seem silly, asking people if they were from this world, but considering he wasn't, it seemed like a legitimate enough question to him.

He couldn't have narrowed it down if he tried. He simply didn't know enough about the world to be able to say what he really cared about. Maybe he'd study the magic of this world. Maybe he'd study the environment. There was no way of telling, and he still had a few years to narrow it down.

The question about his powers caught him off guard, and he paused before swallowing, as if he was suddenly at a formal interview. He didn't really know. It had been hard for him since arriving to draw a line around what his 'powers' were. His magic didn't feel like any more of a 'power' than breathing did. He was only able to think of it was a power by thinking about what the humans of this world, and what they couldn't do.

"Ah, I can access my 'mana' and do magic with it." He wiggled his staff a bit for emphasis. "With my staff. And apparently most of the stuff people do with 'technology' -" The word was very clearly alien to him. "- I do with magic instead. Like, lighting lamps."

Na Lan Tai Hu

The spirit nodded once. "I see. In this world, then, that would probably fall under the category of general spellcasting." Loosely guessing, in any case. Given that Enelen seemed not to think too much about it, there could be more that the boy simply assumed to be common knowledge. Those who had powers of a more general and widespread variety tended to act as such. Although, it was also true that when he had first come to the island, Na Lan himself was rather scarce on details about what he was actually capable of.

"Have you thought about consulting some of the teachers here, then? I know of at least one who uses magic similar to yours, although her type is both silent and also normally without instruments." He did remember a bit about how wands were for beginners, however. Nothing particularly about staves. Perhaps he should have asked.

He had of course thought about consulting the teachers, but there seemed to be an awful lot of them. There were teachers for what seemed like every possible thing, and the majority of the magic teachers were very poorly labelled in his mind. What exactly was 'theory of Lycanthropy'? What was 'Necromancy'? What was the difference between 'Enchanting' and 'Artifice'? Half the words he understood, but he didn't understand them by themselves. It was like saying you were going to have a whole course about the moon, but not talk about space or anything else.

"Do you have anyone in mind? I wasn't sure where to start." There were too many teachers, and no way to tell which would actually have any idea of what he was talking about. His magic was very clearly different from the sorts of magic that existed in this world. There was so much more... variety here.

Na Lan Tai Hu

"There is an elder spellcrafting teacher that you may be interested in meeting," Na Lan told him. "Her name is Vanora Lawful. She has been teaching here for as long as I can remember, as well as for several decades before my arrival. Her classes seem to be of the more open variety but that is all I know." Obviously, there was no need to really take a spellcrafting class if one did not have the ability to cast them in the first place, and Na Lan was not familiar enough with how the class was structured to know that not only were the requirements minimal, they did not exist.

"If you cannot find her in the classroom she normally teaches in, I believe that she resides in the elementary dorm. The admissions office would probably be the most helpful for locating her otherwise, but I do not think she is the sort to wander."

It was all very useful information, and Enelen wished he had an easy way to note it down. Almost all his supplies had been left behind and would have to be replaced, and he'd not yet had the time to prepare what he had. At least the name was short and simple to remember - Vanora Lawful. He nodded once, and then after a moment stood. "I've already more or less unpacked everything." Which meant dropping his bag in his room, because there was nothing else really to do. "So I think I'll go see her now." He was eager to learn about magic and it's place in this world beyond what he already knew, which was 'it's rare'.

He grinned at Na Lan before giving him a proper bow, his eyes wandering down to the half full tea cup. "Thank you for everything - I'll be back later!" He didn't linger that much longer, and after a moment he decided putting his cup away would be pertinent. He collected it, holding his staff, and then mumbled a few quick words. It was not a complex spell - it was the kind he could do without thought, the kind he'd done several times a day every day, for all his dishes.

And just like that, the cup was empty and clean, as spotless as the day it had been acquired. Unsure of what cupboard to put it in, he left it on the counter before giving Na Lan a quick wave and leaving through the door to find the teacher in question.
