Wong Ha Jung

It was drizzling as Wong Ha Jung stepped out of the post office, just a thin film of a shower lightly flowing over everything. The sky was light grey, nothing that suggested an especially strong storm was coming, so he didn't feel a pressing need to open his umbrella. Rain was nice and today wasn't a work day for him, so. It would be perfectly fine if he just walked out into it, right? As long as he didn't do anything really irresponsible, it didn't matter, right?

He palmed the handle of his umbrella self consciously for a few moments, aware of just how many times he had managed to embarrass himself in public in the last few months. It bothered him, even though logically it shouldn't have and he had made his peace with the fact that he was just a stupid person a long time ago. Things like that were only to be expected. But he gave in anyways, because all the neat, logical explanations for why he shouldn't care about what other people thought couldn't come to him fast enough.

Standing on the street corner and half hiding under his umbrella, the man wondered if there was anything else he should be doing. Groceries could be bought nearer to where he stayed, although he probably wouldn't do that for a while. He was getting a little too busy to cook, so he just ate at the school cafeteria nowadays. Clothes, Wong Ha Jung didn't think he needed anymore clothes. Books, he wished that he had more time to read books but there was nothing that he could do about it then. So what else was there?

A lot, everything around him seemed to say.

...His life was kind of bland, now that the man thought about it. Or maybe he was just a boring person who didn't like to do anything (alone).

I guess I'll just go back now.

It was a rather dreary day, but Lydia wasn't the type that could keep herself stuck at home on a day off from not only the Academy, but the club as well. Her life revolved around those two locations to the point that she didn't know what to do with herself when she didn't have to be at either.

The sad thing was--she was very much considering going to the club later that night. Just...because. She really REALLY didn't know what to do with herself. She did think of one thing to do to pass the time though: go food shopping, and maybe try some new recipes. Lydia wasn't horrible at cooking, but she wasn't amazing either. She didn't have much time to cook in between one job and another, and on the rare occasion she did cook, it was the same few things she knew how to make over and over. It was getting pretty dull, but maybe today she could find something new to add to her repertoire!

She had already finished food shopping, having one large and heavy tote bag slung over her shoulder full of ingredients, as she started heading back to her apartment complex. That was when she caught a glimpse of pink from the corner of her eye from across the street. Her whole expression beamed when she realized it was exactly who she thought it was.

"Hey!" Lydia called out, before crossing the street to reach him. As she was crossing the street, however, a wave of embarrassment suddenly hit her as she recalled the last time she saw Ha Jung. He had accidentally wandered into Club Gambit and it was...not great. But, that was 'Bunny', not 'Lydia'. She couldn't think about that right now. So she tried her best to push those thoughts away and just be 'Lydia'.

"What a coincidence!" Lydia said with a big grin on her face. "Oh, look, I remembered this time," she said with a laugh as she gestures to her umbrella.

"How have you been?" Lydia asked as she shrugged the big tote over her shoulder.

Wong Ha Jung

Just as he was starting to slip a little deeper into a place that he honestly didn't want to go back to -maybe it was the weather? But no, he really did like the rain- Wong Ha Jung heard a familiar voice cut through the shower. For a split second, he simply felt confused. He had been concentrating so much on his own thoughts that getting called back to reality made him recoil. Stupid, the man scolded himself. It was a wonder that he hadn't walked into a lamppost or something yet.

As he turned towards that voice, he realized, Oh, that’s Lydia, isn’t it? For some reason, just that thought alone made him a bit happier. It would be lying to say that he didn't know why he felt that way but if he acknowledged it right then, the man was certain that the next conversation would be an awkward one, and there had been quite enough of that so far. Thinking back on the two times he had seen Bunny, he was struck by this intense need to go back and apologize thoroughly for having done that to her twice in a row. He had the feeling that she'd just continue to be nice about it, though, which made him feel like even more of a bother. Why he couldn't just be a decent person was beyond him.

But he smiled anyways, because Lydia was one of the last people he wanted to start worrying about him. “Good afternoon,” Wong Ha Jung said shyly in self consciousness. It had been a while since they had last spoken so he didn’t know exactly where they were at anyways. Although, I did trip into that puddle. And he had started blushing just now, hadn’t he? Sooner or later, people are going to think that something’s wrong with me. Which wasn’t entirely incorrect, the man supposed.

But oh, at least he could pretend.

With a soft laugh, he told her, “Things have been pretty busy lately. I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to talk to you as much.” Yet at the same time, it might not have been wrong to say that he was also unconsciously avoiding her just a tad. Most of those realizations only came after the fact and they served to remind him that ohrightImayhaveacrush. Which was completely inappropriate, because he didn’t even know Lydia that well yet, and absolutely pathetic, because he was sure that all he was doing was latching on to the first friendly, non student he that had spoken to. Nobody deserved that from him at all.

“Can I help you with that?” He indicated with his head at the heavy looking bag that she was carrying. What he wanted to say was Let me take that for you, but he worried that have been too forward and out of line. “Are you heading anywhere in particular right now?”

It was true--she hadn't seen much of Wong lately at school. Honestly, she had grown concerned about it. She felt like his whole experience with Bunny at Club Gambit must have embarrassed him so much that it somehow made him feel uncomfortable around Lydia--which of course was completely ridiculous. He had no idea that she was both Bunny and Lydia! But she was still feeling insecure about the whole thing.

You're Lydia. Not Bunny. Things will be fine. She had to keep telling herself in her head over and over again so that she wouldn't let that whole situation get the best of her. Bunny might have given Wong a really miserable night, albeit by accident, but that didn't mean Lydia couldn't cheer him up a bit, right?

"Aw, that's mighty nice of ya'!" Lydia said with a giggle as she handed Wong her hefty tote bag of groceries. Normally, she was more inclined toward the 'don't worry about lil ol me! I can handle it!' type of reaction when people asked if they could help her carry something, but there was something about Wong's sheepish way of asking that was just...cute! Plus, if he was carrying something for her, then there was an excuse for him to stick around for a little while with her...and she liked the idea of that.

"Just headin' back to my apartment. It's just right down the block!" Now that she had a free hand from her tote bag, Lydia found herself twirling her red hair around her finger. Gosh, now she felt like she was acting like a silly little school girl! She made herself withdraw her hand from her hair by pointing to a building that wasn't too far down the street.

"That's the buildin' right over yonder," she said with a slightly shy smile. Somehow she felt really chatty and shy at the same time and how did that make any sense?!

He took the bag from her, slipping it onto his shoulder and edging a bit closer so the umbrella covered them both. There was something very nostalgic about it, and the man realized that nearly every time he had seen Lydia off hours, it had been raining. If that was supposed to be an indication of something, he wished that somebody would tell him whether he was supposed to think of it as an Eastern omen or a Western one.

"O-oh, over there? I think I pass by there from time to time," Wong Ha Jung started before trailing off as he caught himself. What was he even trying to do with that sort of comment? He wasn't sure if it was just him or the fact that Lydia was there which made it so that he was that much more nervous about rambling onto something inane.

"If you don't mind, I'll come with you then?" He suggested uncertainly. "To the door, at least."

Lydia Sinclair

“Thank you so much~” Lydia said as they shifted closer to each other to get under the same umbrella. It was a familiar scene, wasn’t it? Just as Ha Jung had noticed, Lydia too had considered how they always seemed to meet in the rain. She didn’t mention it though—she felt like she might jinx something. Like, if she said it out loud, the rain might turn into a heavier storm. It was rather silly, but something she couldn’t quite shake off. Maybe someday, they’d meet up in the warmth of the sun.

It was a short walk to the apartment building, and soon enough Lydia was digging into her purse for her keys.

“Do you want to come in for a bit?” Lydia asked as she found her keys and placed a silver key in the lock. Yes, she had heard Ha Jung say ‘to the door, at least’ but she wasn’t letting him off the hook so quickly! They hadn’t run into each other in a while—well, not counting his encounters with Bunny—and she wanted to catch up a bit.

Once inside, she placed her umbrella on a nearby stand and stepped to the door nearest to the entrance.

“I’m right here—apartment number one!” she said with a grin as she used the same key in the lock. As she opened the door, however, there was a moment’s hesitation. Did she leave anything out that might out her identity as Bunny?! But as she opened the door, she saw that there was nothing in view that was too ‘Bunny-like’.

“Come on in and get out of the rain for a bit!” Lydia quickly said, perking up right away as she turned back to Ha Jung. “I can make some hot tea if you’d like!”

Now that she thought of it though, she might have a Bunny costume laying on her bed in her bedroom…but, they had no reason to be going into her bedroom, right? Ahaha…

Wong Ha Jung

When they reached the door of the apartment building, Wong Ha Jung paused, trying to find a healthy medium between being polite and actually being able to say what he wanted. Oh yes, and anxiety, too. There was always a little bit of that hovering around but there was really no reason for it now.

"I wouldn't want to bother you," the man said, "but it really has been a while since we've last spoke and I'd be lying if I said that doesn't feel a bit awkward." He laughed softly, and that was already a sign that his heart wasn't up for a fight on this matter. It didn't take too much encouraging for Lydia to get him in the door and he couldn't help but wonder vaguely if that was something he was supposed to be ashamed of.

Shuffling into Lydia's apartment, he placed her bag on a nearby table. "If you don't mind, tea would be fine," Wong Ha Jung said. And that would mean that he was more or less obliged to stick around for a decent amount of time, right? Not that he minded or anything.

“And that is why we need to catch up, my friend!” Lydia replied with a giggle as she closed the door behind her. Stepping into Lydia’s apartment had a way of making people feel like they had stepped off of Manta Carlos Islands and straight into the heart of Texas—it was just so out of place with the usual ‘look’ of the islands. It wasn’t too overdone either, though—simple wood furnishings, a few horseshoes on the walls, warm oranges and auburns—Lydia loved country but also had the taste to not make her room décor too tacky.

The two stepped into a decent-sized living area that was nice and tidied—much to Lydia’s relief, as she could be disorganized at times. There was one bit of mess though: a bunch of drawings scattered all over the table in front of her couch and TV.

“Woops! Don’t remember leavin’ that mess!” Lydia said as she scurried over and quickly picked up the papers. She…kind of hoped that Wong didn’t see. They were her fashion sketches—something she loved to do, but couldn’t bring herself to share with anyone. She quickly put the drawings in a drawer under her TV stand.

“Anyway! Have a seat!” she chirped as she scampered to the kitchen. The kitchen was part of the living space, separated only by a simple kitchen island with three stools.

“Lesse here…” Lydia murmured as she glanced through one of her shelves. “I’ve got green tea, chamomile lavender, and oh, that fruit tea I always give to Jaqueline at work! What would you like?”

Wong Ha Jung

With a smiling, apologetic look, Wong Ha Jung let himself be herded into the apartment room. To his surprise, the place looked... exactly like he thought it would, actually. It felt distinctly Texan to him, although that was admittedly because of the horseshoes. Whether that was stereotyping or not remained to be seen but he had to remember -and really, how could he forget?- that Lydia was the horseback riding teacher.

He glanced her way curiously as she rushed to gather up some papers that were lying around. From this distance, he certainly couldn't see what they were, just that they probably weren't articles. He wasn't entirely sure if it would be polite to ask about them since she was so hurriedly hiding them away.

"Which would you recommend?" Wong Ha Jung asked as he took a seat. "I'm sure any of them would be fine."
