Wong Ha Jung

By this point, Wong Ha Jung had gotten to be familiar enough with the Academy that he could probably navigate its halls in his sleep. The staircases, however, were an entirely different matter, partially because at this particular moment he was in too big of a rush to worry about tripping down them. Partially because he couldn't see them too well either. After breaking his usual pair of glasses in the mud puddle -it was still embarrassing, it really was- all he had left was a spare which was already starting to accumulate an interesting collection of scratches. He hadn't gotten the chance to buy a new pair yet and the man was starting to suspect that he needed a new prescription anyways.

So he tripped down the stairs and that fact that he did honestly wasn't a surprise. This was maybe the fourth time it had happened. There were a few people around to see it, which made Wong Ha Jung feel somewhat self conscious, but at least he managed to fall against the railing instead of straight against the ground this time. A little absently, he smiled and waved at the people at the base of the stairs in reassurance. He didn't think he even bruised anything that time, so by his standards, it was fine.

He brushed himself off as he turned the corner to his office. It had been about ten minutes since Xenia had called him for first time and the counselor didn't want to keep her waiting for too long but he had kind of been up on the roof. However, it was also the first Wong Ha Jung had heard from the girl since their meeting in the Admissions Office and he had been getting a little anxious to see how she had been doing at the Academy. He hoped that she had been having a good time.

The door was cracked open a little and he knocked briefly before entering.

Xenia Asgonne

Xenia was a bit nervous to be standing in the waiting room in Wong Ha Long's office. She hadn't exactly spoken to him since they had first met a few weeks ago, but she was eager to see him again. Though she had met plenty of nice and interesting people, he was probably the kindest person she had met so far. She found herself wanting to talk to him, wanting to share all of her exciting experiences with him. Almost like a friend might do, she told herself.

She had phoned him upon arriving at his empty office, and it had already been a few minutes since he said he'd be there, but he still wasn't. She wondered offhandedly if he was really far away, like in town of something. She hadn't thought to ask him over the phone, and she hoped that he wasn't rushing away from some important teacher-meeting to see her because he thought she was having some huge mental breakdown. She hoped that no one thought like that.

Meanwhile, she entertained herself by studying the office. The waiting room was nicely furnished and neat, with bookcases on a few of the walls. She tried scanning the book titles, but most of them were in languages she didn't understand, and the ones that were in English seemed to just be about psychology. How funny, she thought. Offer your mentally distressed patients reading about all the things that could be wrong with them.

THUMP!

A muffled clatter came from the hallway and jolted her out of her reverie. Since they were so close to the infirmary, she had hoped it wasn't a sick kid passing out down the hall. She stood up and walked towards the door to see if anyone was okay. Just as she was about to reach for the handle, she was shocked as someone knocked on the door. She opened it to see Wong standing there, and she felt like she was inviting someone into their own home.

"Oh, hey." She smiled at him. "Do you often knock to enter your own office?" she asked, chuckling.

Wong Ha Jung

Because it was part of his nature, Wong Ha Jung was immensely relieved to see that Xenia didn't seem distressed in any way, by his lateness or by some other greater problem. She actually appeared glad to see him, if maybe a little shocked. He had never really thought of it before, but he could see how it might be kind of strange for him to be knocking on the door to his own office.

"It's a habit," Wong Ha Jung said to her with a slightly sheepish smile. "I wouldn't want to scare anybody."

The man closed the door behind him as he entered, trying not to wince as he rubbed his wrist. Apparently his rather optimistic -it was Wong Ha Jung, so of course it was optimistic- guess of no bruises was incorrect. Ah, well, he thought. At least nothing's broken. And besides the tingling feeling in his palms, there truly didn't seem to be much else wrong. Definitely nothing he had to bother Kida for.

"I'm sorry it took me so long. I tried to get down as fast as possible but, ah." Wong Ha Jung tilted his head apologetically rather then finishing that sentence. "I'm sorry. And, ah, please, sit down if you'd like. Anywhere is fine. Would you like anything to drink?" Softly, he laughed a little and said, "Not to be a stereotype or anything but all I have is water and Asian teas."

Xenia Asgonne

Xenia couldn't help but smile at the man's actions. He was treating her like an honoured guest, even rushing away from what he was previously doing just to see her. It was clear to her that his office was like his home, as he was offering her drinks. She politely declined a drink and nodded at his request for her to sit down, sitting on a large couch. It made her smile to think of those big psychiatrist couches that movies always portrayed. However, this was a school counselor's office, and hardly a professional office of psychiatry, though Xenia had a hunch that her new friend might have wished for it to be one.

"Thanks a lot. Sorry, it's not really an emergency. I guess I should specified that on the phone, or.. something. I just didn't think about it. Hopefully you weren't too busy or anything. I'd hate to interrupt you if you were-"

Forgotten by Wong's sudden appearance, Xenia suddenly remembered the large crashing noise she had heard from outside of the room only a bit ago. She noticed him rubbing his wrist, and slowly put two and two together.

"Wait a minute, was it you who fell outside? I was about to freak out! I know the infirmary's right down the hall so I was worried that someone had passed out. I was going to go look and see, but, then, well," She motioned toward him with her arms. "Here you are." She laughed.

Wong Ha Jung

"Oh, no, it's quite all right," the counselor said with a smile as he sat down beside Xenia. "I was just feeding the birds up on the roof. And I did invite you to visit at any time, so." He pressed his lips together as pain went through his wrist and stopped rubbing it, pressing a palm over it instead. "I'm glad that everything is going well enough, in that case."

When Xenia asked him about the fall, Wong Ha Jung jerked his head in surprise. "Oh! You heard that?" Mentally, he checked off Students as yet another group of people that he embarrassed himself in front of. Though he supposed that he had kind of been doing that all along, Xenia had already seen him on his better days. "It happens all the time," the man told her, blushing slightly as he laughed. "When I was younger, it was far worse."

For example, Wong Ha Jung knew from first hand experience that tripping out of third story windows was...not fun. End of seventh grade, and quite a few people in his class wouldn't look at him for weeks after it. It had been an unusually quiet month.

"But so anyways," he said brightly, getting away from that, "How has the Academy been treating you?"

Adding this part because of having too many threads in general and I need to wrap up. =( I can take it out later if you want to continue when you get back. Really, it's only for the sake of my compulsive organization.

And... He really was honestly, truly glad to see the girl again. It was absurd how happy he was about that. The counselor couldn't quite name why, since he was always happy to see people. Maybe it was just because that day in the Admissions Office, they got off to a good start almost immediately?

Wong Ha Jung wondered. But the entire situation could have only been a good thing in his opinion so he didn't think too much about it as the two of them went on talking through the afternoon.

It would take him a little bit of time to realize that despite their short time knowing each other, Xenia already felt like an old friend.
