Hello everybody! The new school year has begun at Starlight Academy, which means that we are kicking off Character Creation Month. What does this mean? It means that, for the entire month of September, we encourage all members of Starlight Academy to create a brand new character to kick off the new year with! If you've had a WIP or even just an idea you've been putting off making, now is the time!
What Kind of Contest is This?
This is an unusual contest, because you'll be rewarded for doing the same stuff you always do! The focus is on creating new characters and getting them involved in the site. We've tweaked the contest this year as well, so if you're the kind of person who only has a few characters (and is already full up), or if you have no ideas, you can still participate!
How Do I Enter?
Unlike previous years, this year we have a form to fill out in the second post. Fill it out, post it in here, and keep it up to date throughout the month! At the end of the month everyone involved will get an @ mention confirming their prizes!
Because yep, there's prizes. Rather than a raffle this year, we've set it up so that you're only competing with yourself, making this a more laid back event. Players should aim to earn points, which can be exchanged for character power vouchers, which can be read about here.
How do I get points?
- CREATING AN IN-DEMAND CHARACTER: Our character categories are a bit lopsided at the moment, and we're aiming to fix that! Characters made that are members of the school staff grant their player five points upon acceptance.
- CREATING ANY OTHER CHARACTER: Making a character that isn't in one of the above groups? No problem - you'll get two points when they're accepted.
- THREADING WITH A NEWLY CREATED CHARACTER: This option is open even to those not creating characters! We want to encourage all these new characters to get plotting, so we're offering a reward for anyone who is willing to thread with them. There are some restrictions, so check below!
How do I get points for threading?
Points for threading is a new mechanic, and it comes with some extra notes. First, to qualify, a thread must have at least one new character (made during the month of September). Secondly, it must be the first thread you're claiming with that player. So if Kyros and Polaris claim one thread with Kyros's new character and Polaris's old one, neither of them can claim their second thread with Polaris's new character and Kyros's old one.
You can get one point for starting a thread in this way, and a second point when one of those threads reaches the second page (or 5 posts by you, if a large group thread).
Whats the reward?
For every five points you gain, you can trade them in for a power voucher! In total, you can get up to three power vouchers this way, to be used on whichever character you like, old or new. In order to use a power voucher, go through the normal power upgrade process and let the staff know you're planning to use your voucher!

Any other requirements?
Joke, throwaway or parody characters will not count. We are looking for solid, well rounded characters that will be used. Companions and NPCs also do not count towards points.
Applications should be at least 750 words long at time of first posting to qualify for points.
