Appearance Description

(Art at top is by Nil)
Caterina has long black hair she typically wears in a thick braid. Her eyes are bright like a yellow Topaz and completely lack pupils. She’s a small woman, only standing at about 5’1” with a small frame--her legs are thin and long, but her torso is short. She has a small B-cup chest and has little difference between her small waist and slim hips. She has very pale skin that appears to hardly ever be touched by the sun. She has what appears to be a birth mark on her left buttock that looks like two small horns. Truthfully, this is not so much a “birth mark” as it is a sign that she was sworn to the Devil in order to gain the power of witchcraft. This is also the reason as to why her strange eyes show no pupils.
Caterina used to have a fashion sense that was shaped from video games and fantasy novels: elaborate dresses with colorful designs and unique styles. Now a days, she has grown more accustom to modern fashion trends--often seen in her work attire of ruffled shirts, suit jackets, and pencil skirts. For more casual occasions, she likes to wear more low key dresses than she used to to. She is also never seen without her glasses on.
After becoming a part of the Rosales family, she started wearing the signature red roses in her hair on a regular basis.

Personality Description
Caterina is very shy and soft-spoken--certainly not someone to be expected to be a witch with demonic powers, of all things. It’s not an act, either: Caterina is legitimately socially awkward and very sensitive. On top of that, she is not particularly fond of her special abilities as a witch.
But despite her soft-spoken nature, she can be blunt and is not made nervous by things that may deeply upset others--such as violence and gore. Caterina is highly desensitized and may come off as cold and apathetic toward such things.
Caterina has avoided interact with other people on the island for a long time and instead had preferred to immerse herself in fictional worlds--whether it be literature, film, or games. It’s actually the best way to get Caterina to break out of her shell. As shy as she may be, just the smallest mention of a story or character she likes will get her into a complete mode. It may only last for a short while though, as she is also quick to get embarrassed and will constantly apologize even if she did nothing wrong. Even though she is uncomfortable with human interaction, she loves living things--she is even a vegetarian because she can’t stand the thought of eating the meat of animals. And despite her social anxiety, she really wants to help people! She wants to prove that witchcraft doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
Caterina is very intelligent and when she is not studying witchcraft, she puts her focus into linguistics. She is fluent in Spanish and Catalan from living in Catalonia, of course, but also speaks English, French, Italian, and a variety of European dialects. Caterina is also very passionate about her job at the Manta Carlos Island Museum as head of the Historical Documents department.

Bruixeria is “witchcraft” in Caterina’s native tongue. She holds a power that is uncommon among witches which makes her unique: a strong connection to certain mythological beings of Catalonian culture. She can become these beings in complete form, or partially, or even mix certain traits.
The beasts that she has a connection to:
-Banyoles Monster: The Banyoles Monster is an infamous beast that lives in the Lake of Banyoles. It was once considered a terror until a French monk named St. Emeterio used his power of prayer to change the creature’s behavior from horrid monster to a peaceful herbivore. Much of Caterina’s demeanor comes from the transformation of this beast--even the fact that she’s a vegetarian! The Banyoles Monster takes a dragon-like form with massive tentacles in place of limbs.
-Aloja: The Aloja is a feminine human-like being that lives in water. They are known to turn into blackbirds, and will quickly boil water to a dangerous degree if a human enters their territory. While they aren’t completely immortal, they do live for thousands of years and retain eternal youth--which is why Caterina has managed to live as long as she has and continues to look like a teenager. When she becomes an Aloja, Caterina keeps her same body type and facial features, but her skin turns blue and scaly, and her hands and feet become webbed.
-Dip: A figure similar to Cerberus of Greek lore. The Dip is a monstrous black dog that craves human blood. The Dip is very strong and dangerous, but slow moving due to a limp hind leg.
-Pesanta: Like the Dip, the Pesanta takes the form of a big black dog--though not as behemoth in size. The Pesanta is known for going into people’s homes at night and sitting on their chests as they sleep, causing difficulty in breathing, horrific nightmares, and sleep paralysis. They also have paws made of heavy steel that have holes in them.
-Faluga: The Faluga is a tiny being that can go into the human ear and crawl into the brain. They do not kill, but rather feed off of human memory and cause tiredness and forgetfulness. Caterina finds this form particularly creepy in comparison to the others and refuses to ever use it.
For the most part she has complete control over these forms and rarely likes to use any of them, but occasionally certain emotions will trigger reactions from these various beasts. For example, Caterina’s shy blush, especially when she finds someone attractive, becomes a shade of blue in her cheeks instead of pink--which shows a hint of her Aloja side. Anger will cause a reaction from the Dip--Caterina may grow fangs, or a partial form of the Dip itself may burst from her body and try to attack. The Banyoles Monster tends to react to anxiety or panic and may suddenly cause Caterina to sprout tentacles. Either way Caterina tries really hard to avoid having strong emotions as best she can.

Bruixeria: Minor Power
Caterina also holds the power to perform spells, as would be expected of a witch. However, there are many spells that Caterina refuses to involve herself with because of the morbid ingredients they involve, such as the flesh of a hanged man or live infants. As such, while she technically has the ability, she refuses to perform spells that could give her the ability to fly, see into the future, turn into any animal (you know, besides the scary monsters), or gain evil powers.
Caterina doesn’t mind performing minor spells with the use of plants, herbs, or grains. If it doesn’t hurt any living thing, then she will be more willing to perform a spell. As such, she is more experienced in spells of healing. She cannot deny that her powers come from an evil source, but she can at least to try and use them in ways that are nondestructive as best she can.

RESOURCES
Caterina has spent most of her life travelling and living on very little. As of now, she lives with Angelo, Lorenzo, and the last few Rosales kids who have remained on the island. She also makes a decent living working at the museum.Biography
Caterina was born in Catalonia, Spain sometime in the 1600s. Unfortunately for her, this happened to be the time of frantic witch-hunts in Catalonia--and her mother was a witch. Caterina had no choice in the matter of whether she would be a witch or not, as her mother already promised her to the Devil from the moment she was born.
Caterina’s memories of her childhood are very vague. She learned witchcraft, and spent a lot of time escaping the witch-hunts with her mother until they were finally outlawed in Europe. Learning simple spells using herbs and grains were not so bad but as she got older, Caterina’s mother began to go into more complex spells that required more complex ingredients--ones that Caterina felt incredibly uncomfortable using. She hated to kill any sort of animal, even small creatures, and when the spells began to involve harming human beings, Caterina began to resent her mother and what she had been turned into. But she was too young to try and navigate the dangerous world full of witch hunts, so she felt like a prisoner to her own mother. She had to watch her mother commit so much violence, that she became completely accustom to the sight of horrific gore.
There finally reached a point where Caterina decided to leave her mother--or rather, run away from her. Instead, she wanted to see the world for herself and, if she had no choice but to keep her powers as a witch, then she would learn what she wanted on her own terms. Caterina holds a certain amount of guilt for running away instead of trying to stop her mother, but realistically there was very little Caterina could have done besides run.
She spent a lot of time exploring the world, learning new languages and finding new interests that had nothing to do with the witchcraft forced upon her. She loved to read fiction, and as film and even gaming technology began to emerge, she became infatuated with those as well. She loved fantasy stories about creatures unlike those that she was bound to, or even ones that were similar but not evil. It gave her confidence that her powers didn’t have to be used for destruction.
Caterina ultimately chose to settle on Manta Carlos Islands so that she could find positive uses for her witchcraft abilities without having to be so secretive among humans. She started working at the Manta Carlos Islands Museum and worked her way from selling tickets to being the head of the Historical Documents department. Her department is not the most popular in the museum--after all, most go with the intention of seeing the artifacts, not to read long and tedious documents--but Caterina loves what she does and has read everything in the museum.

Being grey-asexual means she has very little interest in sex, and no real sex drive to speak of, but she may engage in sex with someone if she feels a strong romantic connection.
