BASIC INFO
Name: Anastasia Mikhailovna Usenko
Nickname: Nastya
Age: Seventeen Eighteen Nineteen
Birthday: September 23rd
Gender: Female
Category: Citizen
Job: Worker at Зимняя Ден

APPEARANCE
Anastasia is a little bit taller than the average Russian woman, coming in at 5'10". Her hair is a very light blond, and she keeps it short, preferring to tie it up. She keeps her bangs swept to the right side of her face, which makes her face look a tad more angular than it would otherwise. Her eyes are blue, and she does not wear glasses.

Physically, Anastasia is extremely fit. While not hulking with muscle, she works out regularly and gets plenty of exercise, so she carries almost no extra fat on her. While her skin is generally clear, she does have several scars, mostly on her hands from sparring and scrapes.

Her clothes are kept simple, and she prefers function over fashion. Jeans are at least easy to find, but she prefers looser pants or shorts that allow her a greater range of movement. Her facial expression almost always looks sour, and it takes a lot for happiness to actually show on her face.

PERSONALITY
While Anastasia was never actually a member of the military, most people would think otherwise. She's a very strict and orderly person, and does her best work in situations where there's a clean chain of command, whether it be parent to child, teacher to student, or boss to worker. She's not very social, and prefers to self-isolate and spend her time in what she considers worthy pursuits. For her, that means homework, studying, or practicing sambo.

She's polite to a fault, and almost everyone is 'sir' or 'ma'am'. It takes an awful lot for her to actually be rude to someone, and in general she's what many people would consider a model citizen. She's hardworking and diligent, and if she spoke a bit more, she'd probably be considered perfect in most people's eyes. Unfortunately, what most people consider a 'model citizen' often has more to do with what is good for them, and less about what's actually good for the person. As much as Anastasia truly doesn't mind her isolation, in times of stress she has no one to turn to.

If not for school, Anastasia could easily go a week without speaking a single word. In Russia she had very few friends, the majority of which came from sambo, her sport of choice. On the Manta Carlos Islands, she has none, and doesn't think highly of her odds of getting more.

Anastasia can be very competitive, especially when it comes to Sambo. She's been described more than once as being brutal, largely due to her efficiency. She doesn't see the point in playing nice, and tends to go for the proverbial kill quite quickly. She doesn't feel practice is worthwhile if she isn't really trying, and it leads to a lot of bruises and minor injuries on her sparring partners. At least once it lead to a serious injury, breaking her sparring partners arm. While everyone reassured her it was an accident, Anastasia knew she could have prevented it, and has to remind herself to be more careful despite her instinct to just win.

While normally calm and impassive, the last few days on the mainland and the revelation that she was not quite human have shaken her. She has no one to turn to, and no support structure. The death of her parents hit her hard, and it's something she's going to have to deal with for years to come.

POWERS
Deathproof: Anastasia is a normal human being, with one simple exception: She can recover from death. She has no added endurance or abilities past a normal human, and can feel pain and be hurt just like anyone else. Similarly, she'll only be conscious at a point where a human being would be conscious.

Anastasia is capable of truly dying if there's nothing left that can be counted as a 'body'. Up until that point, she can recover from anything, although the rate at which she recovers depends on how severe the injury is. Minor injuries heal at a more or less human rate. Something like a scrape or a bruise would heal completely normally, and even someone paying attention would have a hard time noticing it healed faster than usual. A clean break to a bone would take around a week to heal, since while inconvenient it would far from life threatening. Something more severe but not life threatening, like a gorey stab to the arm might take closer to a few hours. If she was literally torn apart and brutally killed, it might only take an hour or two to recover.

Anastasia does not heal instantly. Instead, her body waits for the attack to have stopped before it attempts to recover at all. When Anastasia hasn't been harmed further for around thirty minutes, she will begin to recover as normal.

There are a lot of unanswered questions for Anastasia. Can she die of old age? Will she even continue to get older? Why does she have a power at all? And perhaps most alarmingly of all: How does this connect to the fact that the personification of winter is her father?

Child of Winter: Anastasia is the daughter of winter, although this means very little to her at the moment. Being a season is a title more than anything to do with genetics, and as far as she knows she's the only child of a season to have ever existed. The title is granted, not passed through families, and as a result she has only a fraction of her father's powers, like a vague echo of what might have been.

For Anastasia, it means a resistance to cold. When other people are chilly, she feels nothing. The temperature is almost always 'fine' for her. Only in the dead of winter will she truly feel the cold, and even then it would only be the kind of cold one wears a light jacket in. The flipside is that she's more susceptible to heat, although it's not as extreme as her resistance to cold. She'll be the first one to complain about a place being too hot, although it has no extreme side effects unless she's exposed to desert like conditions, where she's far more likely to suffer heat stroke.

BIOGRAPHY
Anastasia's life began in a normal enough fashion. She was born to a loving couple, both of which were currently active in the Russian military. For the first few years of her life, her parents swapped back and forth, staying with her while the other was out on assignment. As an only child, she was showered in attention, but also far from spoiled. She was raised under tight military style discipline, trained to do her absolute best. If her bed wasn't made before breakfast, there would be no breakfast. If she missed their scheduled meal time, she wouldn't get that meal. Homework was done when it was assigned, not the day before it was due, and extracurriculars were mandatory, not optional. Her parents ran her through the gamut of possibilities, through sports and dance and art, but none of them stuck until she begged to try out something that would actually be useful. She took to sport Sambo like a duck to water, excelling in the sport, much to her parents chagrin.

There was never any direct discussion of it, but it seemed to go without saying that Anastasia would take a military career like her parents. When she was ten, her father took a bullet to the leg that shattered his knee, forcing him out of a combat role and allowing him to be more active in her life.

Anastasia had just graduated from highschool at seventeen when both she and her family was killed. She didn't see the men who did it - simply felt an excruciating pain, and then nothing. She'd been shot in the back of the head, along with her parents, and that would have been that if she hadn't woken up a few days later.

The whole thing was a minor fiasco - a prominent Russian general, her husband, and her young daughter gunned down in their home by unknown assailants. It was enough to get the news going wild... and then the news came that despite earlier reports, the daughter wasn't actually dead. No one was entirely clear on what had happened, and despite several of the first responders swearing she was absolutely, definitely dead with a hole in her skull, the whole thing was chalked up to being a mistake. It was impossible for someone to recover from damage like that, and thus the whole thing was declared a mistake. She had really been alive all along, and the first responders had screwed up declaring her dead. It was still a miracle that she'd recovered as well as she did, but by the time she was examined at the hospital, there was so little damage that it was obvious to everyone involved that she'd really only been grazed.

Anastasia knew otherwise. She knew that she had died. She knew that no one efficient enough to kill both her parents was going to be a poor enough shot to graze her while she was standing still. Whatever had happened, she had been shot.

The letter from Starlight academy came before she was even officially out of the hospital. While strange and mysterious, it presented an opportunity. Not only did it get her out of Russia, away from the media circus and her suddenly empty house, but it gave her a chance - a chance to find out just what she was.

Unfortunately for Anastasia, the answers would not be found on the Manta Carlos islands.
EXTRA INFO
  • As a result of her history, Anastasia lives alone in the dorms on the islands.
  • The Russian dimunitive of Anastasia's name is Nastya, and that would be the term those closest to her would use. At the moment, no one uses it.
  • Anastasia's English is decent but also stiff. Since most of her experience with English was in an academic setting, she does poorly with slang and colloquialisms.
  • Of all the things Anastasia tried before settling on Sambo, she was the worst at singing. No amount of practice could help her move past the fact that she was tone deaf.
  • Anastasia is allergic to shellfish. It's won't kill her, but it will cause her to break out in hives and be horribly uncomfortable for about twenty four hours after. She isn't entirely clear what causes it beyond 'shellfish', but she's in no hurry to try things out to see what does and doesn't set it off.
