Appearance Description: Gallery
Altair stands at five feet and four inches tall with a scholarly presence. He is one of the smallest of his siblings and considered to be the runt of his nest. With azure colored-hair and blue eyes, his skin sometimes seems to tinted a sickly grey when not very lightly sun-kissed. In fact, he is actually one of the most active and healthiest members of his line. His eyesight is extremely poor in one eye and nearly to the point of blindness, necessitating the use of a monocle.

In dragon form, Altair is sixty-five feet long with a wingspan of eighty feet. He has a slender build similar to Eastern Earth dragons and long, mostly straight horns. While his underbelly is white, the rest of his body is colored a blue to white gradient, spotted with blue spots of color. His mane and horns are similarly colored.

Altair's wardrobe is normally dark with flashes of white. His style is extremely aristocratic and arcane; he is rarely seen outside the proper traditional clothes of his homeworld. This is partially because no other clothes would survive his transformations from human to dragon.

Personality Description: Altair was bred into a cold, unforgiving world and learned to survive by adaptation. As the youngest child born to his parents before his father was disgraced, he has always felt haunted by the stories of what their family used to be and the feats of his elders. His cold personality has won him few allies and fewer friends among strangers but many have noted that he is quite adept at producing respect from those within his own sphere.

Stubborn and loyal to a fault, Altair would willingly lay down his life for those who have earned his favor. Unfortunately, most of his loyalty belongs to the tyrannical empire which has torn apart his family and scattered his siblings across the galaxy. He views emotions as a burden that he should rightfully be born above of but still struggles with his temper. His spats with older sister Adhara are legendary within his clan.

Altair has a very low opinion of himself in general and trusts others warily. What he is good at is running himself into the ground with overwork and stress, something that becomes more and more frequent the more upset he is. It's a vicious cycle that he finds hard to acknowledge and break out of. As far as he's concerned, nothing he does will ever be enough.

Active Abilities: Draconic Shifting - Altair is able to transform between his dragon and human forms at will, though doing so takes focus and should not be done within closed quarters. Though considered weak for his kind, Altair is actually considered to be a physical fighter in his family, in that he actually can actively participate in battles with some kind of effectiveness without the use of magic. If he tries, he can carry his own weight while in dragon form (something like seventeen thousand pounds) but little else while doing so. Partial transformations are possible but uncomfortable and whenever switching forms, Altair is unlikely to change back for quite some time. A key reason for this is clothing. Anything that he wears while in human form has to be magically broken down and reconstructed when changing forms. It is for this reason that nearly all of his possessions are made with some magic running through them.

Blessing of the Thousand Currents - Altair's family has been blessed by the titan of water, a great and powerful entity who dwells in the deepest depths of his homeworld's planet. This titan is the personification of water itself, able to manipulate it at will and also capable of seeing the future through it. In terms of general water magic, Altair has honed his craft specifically for the sake of combat. His control of water is impeccable; his focus is such that he can keep track of many events at the same time without his control wavering. His most effective method of fighting with magic is to simply form a bubble of water around his opponent's head from their bodily fluids and wait for them to drown. He can do this with five targets at most at a time. Other attacks he commonly uses are creating spikes of water and shooting them at targets or simply creating them under his enemies. Most of his magic is activated by a combination of gestures and sheer will. He is slow at using his abilities for non-combative purposes as he is overspecialized for fighting. Theoretically, he is capable of pulling water from the air. The problem is that Earth is far less humid than his home region and he has problem compensating for the difference. He cannot create his own water from nothing. His range is generally within two hundred feet in dragon form and fifty while in human form.

Scholarly Magic - Altair is well practiced in general magic that comes from long, long hours of study. With pure, unaffiliated magic, he is able to perform minor spells to move and levitate objects. Though there are many branches of magic, he prefers the sort that require no sort of preparation - just a gesture or word at most and the deed is done. He uses this magic to materialize objects of pure energy. Flat circles are the easiest shape for him to produce - the more sides or dimensions a shape has, the harder it is for him to form it. These objects are good for blocking minor attacks or carrying moderate amounts of weight (no more than a typical human's weight). His range for any of this magic is generally thirty feet.

Passive Abilities: Draconic Physiology - Dragons of Altair's species are capable long distance flight. After some training, which he has received, they are even able to fly through outer space. Because of his family's affiliation with the titan of water, Altair can also breathe underwater.

Foresight of the Titan - Though Altair's foresight is limited to the point of being practically non-existent, he still frequently receives flashes of the future right before disasters and attacks occur. This normally takes place only seconds beforehand. Rarely does it happen minutes prior.

Biography: Mariawa of the Thousand Currents. Proud, elegant, educated, and strong. Its dragons lived at the depths of the planet's all-encompassing ocean, safe from others behind the blessing of the titan of water. Isolationist, expansionist, elitist. This was the empire that Altair was born into.

Altair's first memories were of shock and confusion. While barely old enough to understand court politics, he was forced to watch his father be changed into a horrific beast by the Mariawan Emperor's pet mages and evicted from court without even a chance to make their goodbyes. To this day, he does not know what became of him. His mother, in response to this tragedy, became a distraught recluse. She found comfort too easily in other dragons and soon, Altair was forced to disown her after the birth of too many illegitimate half-siblings, many of whom were not even fully dragon.

As a result of this trauma, while his siblings may have felt the need to flee the suffocating miasma of court life, Altair himself had spent many lonely days twisting his fears and frustrations into fierce loyalty to the same empire that has torn his family apart. Priding himself on his intelligence and efficiency, Altair had managed to overcome some of his father's disgrace and earn himself a minor official's position on the edge of imperial territory in some backwater planet.

Mariawa, however, was an empire constantly seeking expansion. After having secured a sufficient amount of planets in the area, the emperor began his invasion of the surrounding regions. Altair was called upon as one of the officials meant to accompany the push into the Darkened Reaches- an order that served as a back-handed promotion. On paper, Altair's status had been somewhat elevated. In reality, however, the expectation that he actually take part in the battles was an insult to any of the scholarly elite that made up Mariawa's ruling circle.

He decided to take the insult, anything to restore the reputation of his family. Through force of sheer will more than anything else, Altair soon found himself in charge of a small but respectable force made up of mostly mages. With their collective intellect, they managed to at least hold the outposts gained by their stronger allies. Unfortunately, they were eventually surprised by the Darkened Reaches' tricksters and cut off from the other Mariawan battalions. Lost in a magical cloud of dusk, they were at the mercy of dragons who had taken blessings from the titan of shadows.

With no way back to secure victory without a high mortality rate, Altair was forced to take to the skies instead, having lost many of his senior officers. What remained of his unit assumed that if they left the planet behind, their pursuers would simply leave them be. Unfortunately for them, they had made a grave miscalculation. Instead, their enemies chased them into the skies, even to space itself. It was there that Altair lost many of his fellow water dragons as they were untrained to survive for extended periods outside the planet's atmosphere without the aid of the senior mages. He was eventually separated from the rest as they flew through an asteroid belt in an attempt to lose the shadow dragons.

But the pursuit continued. Exhausted, he was chased all the way to the edge of the solar system where he was met by an unexpected company of allies - dragons sent by one of his elder sisters who had been sent away from the empire so long ago to Earth. Against his will, they brought him to Earth under the pretense of protecting him.

Resources: Altair has absolutely nothing except for the clothes off of his back and his salary as a teacher. He lives at the mercy of his older sister, Adhara, who has established her own clan and ties to the island. He currently resides with her clan, hoping that he can convince her to leave the planet with him.
