An ornate, gold trimmed message was delivered early one morning, naming this one of several meeting spots. What appeared to be a young man with teal-colored hair stood nearby with a blank stare and calm demeanor, waiting.

"Dear sir, ma'am, or any other address of your choice,

You have been nominated by an anonymous source as a worthy partner to one of us Regalia, a race of guardian spirits. One of our number is willing to form a pact with you in return for taking part in a magical tournament across the island. Please see the rules listed below.

Sighing, Liliana just gazed around her at the people in the park, wondering who the heck the Regalia were, and why she had even been invited? She hadn't signed up for anything - that she knew of. It made no sense at all and wondered if this were a prank or something.

So what was this nonsense again? Iggy had lived on the island for what effectively amounted to his entire life. He'd heard about things like this happening to people in the past, but he never thought he'd win the weird test of might lottery. His raccoon, Cooper noticed someone familiar and pointed them out.

It was Liliana, a classmate he'd known since elementary school.

"Oh hey! Um... did you get a weird letter too?"

"You too?" Liliana said in surprise when Iggy approached her with Cooper on his shoulder. "You got a letter also?" she asked him curiously as she then smiled, reached out and scratch the racoon behind his ears in greeting. "Hey Cooper..."

Iggy nodded, and Cooper accepted the petting, chittering conversationally.

"Makes me wonder how many people were roped into this thing," Iggy focused on the man with teal hair. This was probably the guy running this thing.

"Um... what exactly does forming a pact entail?"

Liliana looked over at the man with teal hair - he had just suddenly appeared before them, so weird - glancing at Iggy, she stopped petting Cooper and lowered her hand.

"What type of pact?' she asked rather suspicious of signing anything. She knew what a pact could do to one's soul.

"The pacts themselves are temporary - they will not last the end of the tournament if you do not want them to. On the offhand you do, I am sure you will have enough time to work things out with your Regalia. Whatever powers you gain from this will fade if you wish them to, although you will retain your Divine Right."

"Um, I mean... I guess if all, that's fine then?" Iggy shifted nervously and looked at Liliana. He really wasn't quite sure what to make of all of this. Cooper hopped down and took a few steps away from him.

Liliana frowned and glanced again at Iggy, the man in front of them didn't appear to be bad. There were no undead floating around him waving "don't do it" at her, and so, she relented a bit, "I guess...I mean, if it's not permanent or anything..." she replied somewhat uneasily, not entirely convinced of everything.
