Broen didn't start walking again, instead just holding his cigarette to his lips between his fingers. His eyes narrowed a bit and he took another drag before blowing out smoke through his nose. "Okay. More ominous. I've lost all but one of my matches so far."

He pulled out his phone and texted... fuck. Travis. Jude. Oh shit. Zora. Telling them to stop winning. The prize was a trick. Do not pass go. Do not collect the throne.

"To be fair, you can always decline," Aslan said casually, not really trying to make an argument on Cornelius's behalf at all. "Because Cornelius is stupid and thinks that people might actually want the throne, it'll just go down the line. Ideally, somebody will want it because honestly, can you imagine us having this idiot for our king?" He looked at Broen with such obvious disdain for the idea.

Honestly, they should have just kept Claudius around instead of kicking him out. I'd rather have that pathetic wreck as a king than Cornelius, even."

Curiously, he peered over Broen's shoulder. "While you're at it, tell your friends not to go making pacts with Cornelius or Claudius either. There is honestly no benefit to it unless you count gaining an unstable heap of Regalia as a benefit. If anybody, go for Loralai."

"Loralai? What does she do? Better yet, what's she like?" Broen only looked up from his phone briefly. He had sent the group texts already and was texting individual people now. An, of course, Jude and Travis were blowing him up with follow up questions. Like fucks.

Broen stopped and put his phone away. He leveled a stare at Aslan and chewed on his lip. "Okay so, I kind of get the why. But how does this whole thing work? Because as far as I can tell there's nothing magical about the challenges themselves. How does Cornelius know who's winning? You guys aren't around for all our matches, and I can't imagine every Regalis is reporting to you."

Aslan smiled vaguely. "Are you sure about that?" he asked. "We might seem obvious to you now but the six of us are rather good at staying hidden when we want to. How else could we have been on the island all this time without anybody noticing?" Besides that, there was Lucianne and her powers but he didn't feel the need to out her just yet.
