Goodall was starting to think that he didn't know what Berry meant by 'psychic capsule.' He had been trying to talk about the four-dimensional objects that his species shared with each other to transmit thoughts without ever having to meet. It was the closest thing to the 'written language' thing that his species had. He had been alive for the invention of these things, and they still made some of his older peers uncomfortable.

But the way Berry was referring to 'psychic capsules' had the tentacle monster at a total loss. Too many words he hadn't learned how to use, or which he hadn't learned to use in that particular way.

"AM NOT DOING AN UNDERSTAND OF YOUR WORDS. CAN FEEL WHAT YOU ARE FEEL THOUGH."

Language barriers aside, Goodall liked this human. He could sense her curiosity, and it endeared her to him; he felt that way all the time. He could also feel that he was leaving some kind of residue on her; he only ever noticed it through the minds of the creatures he tried to interact with. What on earth was that stuff?

"DO AN EXPLAIN OF CAPSULE WITH THE SLOWNESS. WHAT CAPSULE MEANS AT YOU"

Berry let go of the tentacle, thoughtfully studying the slime that covered her hand. "I hope you are familiar with machines," she said, slowing down her words. "I think of this "psychic capsule" in the same way as, as like a small computer. Inside of it, there would be a bundle of energy or thoughts or feelings that can be sent from one place to another. One person to another."

"Your species, in order to understand what is inside the capsules, might have something special in your bodies or minds. This something special is a site where the capsules are received and read. This is what makes it so you can understand them. I think that most humans probably do not have these sites. Or, maybe we do have the sites. But our sites cannot read the capsules."

She tilted her head to the side and her eyes caught on an empty bottle by her desk. Picking it up, she scraped her dirtied hand against the mouth of the bottle, letting all of the slime run in. Later, she would run some tests and see what the results were. "Would your species happen to have any knowledge of anatomy?"

That analogy didn't make any sense to Goodall. The communication barrier was too severe.

"MAYBE JUST I NEED DO UNDERSTAND OF TALK BEFORE UNDERSTAND OF CAPSULE. AM BAD AT USE WORDS."

As for anatomy, Goodall felt reasonably comfortable about that. "I SEE EVERYTHING INSIDE YOU ALWAYS," He informed her. "CAN SEE PARTS. CAN MAKE A GUESS OF REASONS OF WHAT DOING BUT FOR TRIPLE DIRECTIONS MAKING FEW SMALL CONFUSE."

Most of Berry's body parts seemed to be analogous to some things Goodall's species had, just less complicated.

How interesting, perhaps even frustrating. How long would it take, she wondered, for this creature to gain a full understanding of human languages? Should she pursue this same path of explaining her explanations, attempting to find some simplistic way to convey a very complicated idea? It seemed like a waste of time, rewarding effort with only more questions. Yet, that was part of being a scientist. Berry supposed that she should be pleased that the role fit her so well.

"Yes, maybe a little more learning would be good," Berry agreed, still thinking idly of ways that this barrier could be torn down. "It's rather interesting you can see all of my parts, though. I certainly don't mind you saying so. I like to go and see other things' parts all the time. But if you tell other humans, they will usually react very strangely."

"Have you ever heard of leaning aids?" She asked. "Rosetta Stone is good for learning languages, or so I've been told."
