A Roommate, at Last

It was early in the evening towards the start of the Winter Holidays. Lila had closed her curtains, eaten a quick dinner alone, brushed her teeth and was checking her phone. She had put on a long pink T-shirt with 'Sleep' written on it in big black lettering, as well as grey tracksuit and comfy socks to keep her feet warm. Her hair was up in a messy bun and she had settled down in her bed for a much needed rest night. She certainly wasn't expecting any visitors, or permanent residents for that matter.

It wasn't that she hadn't been expecting a roommate, she had been placed in a shared dorm when she moved in, but she was the only one living there. She only used the bathroom and her bedroom, which contained a single bed in one corner, a desk in another, a large window on the same wall the bed head lay against, a chest of drawers which doubled as a counter to keep things on top of and a small table in the centre of the room which she used to eat the few meals she had in her dorm, preferring to stay out of the living/dining space that came with the shared dorms as it would men more cleaning. To make the place seem more homely, she had added a colourful carpet in the centre of the room and a photo frame given to her from her boyfriend, which stood on top of the drawers where she stored her clothing. Her school supplies were left either on her desk or next to her backpack in a corner.

So as Lila became comfortable in her bed, she heard a knock at the door. Wondering who it could be but really comfortable where she was, she raised her voice just slightly to say, "Come in!"

The now-familiar sound of a suitcase rolling on down the hallways of the Starlight Academy dorms whirred mechanically in Pan's ears as she made her way to her new home. She'd had a roommate for all of about a week before she'd suddenly been given a room on her own. While Pan didn't mind the solitude, she did find it rather maddening, which was why she was quite pleased to hear that she'd been reassigned with a new roommate. Rooms at the academy were quite accommodating, so she doubted very much that she'd be wanting for personal space.

Pan was wearing her favorite deerskin moccasins, along with a pair of ripped jeans, patched with many different flags of all the countries and cities she visited during her frequent returns to the tribe, as her father quite liked to give her detours, little adventures to let her see the world. There were patches from Liverpool, San Francisco, Moscow, Amsterdam, and all manner of other places. Her black shirt sported a white silhouette of the late and great Freddy Mercury, standing triumphantly, one hand rose into the air, the other grasping a microphone. The shirt bore the simple label of "Queen."

Pandora's sandy blonde hair was currently in a side braid, showcasing her steel-colored eyes while also displaying the festive red and green accents that were in her hair. She was quite enjoying Christmas, a holiday she'd never been exposed to. Though she wasn't Christian, and her father would likely have quite a laugh if she were, she still quite enjoyed the holidays they celebrated. Her suitcase was all that she carried with her, as she didn't really have that much in the way of worldly possessions. Some clothes and her father's card, which had been tiding her over during her travels and her stay at the academy, were really all she had. She'd been slowly growing her collection of outfits, but currently was lacking quite a bit.

To that note, Pan's suitcase was a marvel in itself. Originally obnoxiously bright purple, Pan's travels had worn the suitcase out quite a bit, and much like her jeans, patches covered it from end to end. Eventually, Pan hoped, the thing would no longer be showing even the faintest trace of the original color.

Her parents were quite surprised that Pan had not decided on returning for the winter holidays, but she was quite content to stay at Manta Carlos for the time being. Her frequent travels, while enlightening, only distracted her from the marvelous place that was her new home. She'd never seen the place on holidays, and as she was getting a new roommate, she figured now was the perfect time to really explore the island. Maybe she'd even get along well enough with her to take her on some trips outside the island. Gods knew she was starved for company.

Knocking lightly on the door of her new room, Pan heard a prompt, rather quiet invitation to come in. Without further ado, she twisted the knob and entered the room. She glanced around confusedly as she stepped into the living area.
"Umm, hello?" She called out lightly, noticing the open door to Lila's bedroom. She set up her suitcase against the wall before striding over to the door, knocking politely even though it was already open. It was mostly just to get her attention in case she wasn't prepared, but as Pan had already been invited in, she didn't worry too much.

Noticing the girl on her bed, Pandora couldn't help but feel a little awkward. She wasn't a very forward person, and she felt as if she were invading her new roommate's privacy, even though this was just as much her home now. It felt strange. "Uh, hi." She blurted out unceremoniously. "I'm your roommate. Pandora At'teed." She explained. "Do you know which room I'm supposed to take?"

Lila had expected a friend to walk through the door as it opened, or her boyfriend. Maybe even someone from her neighbouring dorm, asking if they could be a bit noisy. Yet it was none of these people. Instead, a girl of similar age to her walked into her bedroom a little bit uncomfortably. Spotting a suitcase up against the wall in the living area, Lila knew exactly what that meant - she had just gotten her first ever roommate.

The girl looked... Interesting. She could be described as... Expressive. That being said, her mismatched outfit and hairdo seemed to work, somehow. She had certainly gotten into the Christmas spirit, due to her streaked blonde hair. Lila respected that. She loved Christmas too, and high-spirited people were always better to be around and easier to talk to, so that was a good sign. Her clothes weren't something Lila herself would wear, but the girl wore them with confidence and didn't seem too self-conscious . Another good sign. And the patched-up outfit- well, it either meant she was poor, which she didn't care about, or had good stories to tell, which she hoped for.

Lila's thoughts on having a roommate were simple - she wanted one. At the very start, she was cautious due to being overwhelmed by the variety of powers students possessed. Now, she was bored of going back to an empty house every night. She still didn't have a 'best friend,' as such. She longed for someone to confide in, and someone to confide in her. She could easily see this girl becoming close friends with her, despite their already obvious differences. Since she had arrived at the island the range of people she had befriended had widened to no end. Even though she still held those similar to her in a higher regard, she was starting to realise just how many more people she could be friends with if she just made an attempt to get to know them.

The girl didn't seem to have all that much with her, save for a suitcase. Lila quickly banished this thought though, considering she herself brought much less to the island than she would even for a week's vacation. Either she was new and didn't want to pack too much, she didn't own much to start with or she just wanted a fresh start.

Lila hopped out of bed quickly, smoothing out her pyjamas. Probably not a good first impression there, she thought. Oh well, she'd have plenty of time to make that better. And she knew she would. "Oh, hey," she said, slightly surprised at the whole roommate situation, as if she hadn't expected one to enter for the past two months. In case the girl was unaware of her name, she added, "I'm Lila, nice to meet you Pandora." Lila didn't always introduce herself with her last name anymore, especially because she was told Angels didn't traditionally have last names. She was happy to know her roommate wasn't totally over-eccentric, or anything. Pandora seemed pretty down-to-Earth as far as she could tell.

"Your room's just through here," she said, motioning at the door to the living area before following the direction she was pointing. She walked through the living area and stopped at a door on the other side. It was closed, which it had been since the day Lila arrived at her dorm, when she quickly searched around the rooms to see what was there. She opened the door for her, revealing a large clean, furnished bedroom, much like Lila's, except not filled with possessions. "And the bathroom is just there," she added, pointing to another door
connected to the living space.

"You can get settled in now, if you want." Having a roommate would be fun, but she would have to hold off on that to let Pandora actually move in.

Pan waited politely, if a little awkwardly, as her roommate got out of bed. Actually taking a moment to look at her roommate, she noticed that Lila was quite good looking, almost inhumanly so, in fact. She couldn't quite put her finger on what it was, but Lila seemed different somehow then, well, normal people, which were quite scarce in Manta Carlos to begin with. While her roommate was adjusting her clothing, Pan appeared to become a bit more comfortable, since it appeared Lila was pretty laid back about this. Nice and easy, just the way she liked things.

She wondered to herself whether this was her only roommate, as their living space was quite large. Was she really getting all of this space to herself? Of course, she'd have to share with Lila, but that was still a major upgrade from her old room. Nodding with a smile at Lila's direction, Pan began to cross the room towards the door adjacent to Lila's looking around and taking in the area.

"Thanks." She said simply.

"Is it just you in here?" She asked, watching as Lila opened the door to her room, before pointing out the bathroom, and advising she get settled in. Shrugging, Pan retrieved her bag and set it at the foot of her new bed. She really didn't have that much to unpack, now that she was looking. She quickly spread some silky green sheets on her bed, throwing a quilted blanket over it, digging through her bag for a moment before realizing that there really wasn't much else to do but put her clothes away.

Rather bored with this routine, Pan tried her best to make conversation through the open door as she unpacked. "I've never had a room this big. My last room was one of the tiny double rooms, and my roommate bailed just as I moved in." She explained, deciding that was the easiest thing to talk about as she worked. "I've only been in the city for a few months." She added as an afterthought.

Her drawers and closet were filled quite quickly, and a few trinkets and nicknacks already littered her desk, but that was basically it. She set her rolled up posters to the side, deciding she'd better wait on those, and stepped back out into the living space.

"All set. I'll bring my toothbrush and stuff into the bathroom later." She said, plopping down on the couch. "You didn't already eat, did you? I thought it'd be nice to hang out, you know? Kinda get to know each other." She offered. She wanted to learn more about her roommate, since a large portion of her time would be spent with her. Plus, she hadn't eaten all day. Maybe that was most of it. "...I'm starving." She added as an afterthought.

Lila considered herself fortunate. She hadn't even had to manipulate somebody to get herself a sufficient roommate. Pandora was roughly around her age, which the Academy geended up crushing on her or vice versa, and only occasionally both. Having one as a roommate would be something she'd have to 'sort out.'

What's more, Pandora looked interesting. Her outfit, her hair, she looked like she didn't follow the trends as much as Lila did but she was still somebody worth some getting to know. Lila would at least give her roommate a chance.

Pandora seemed relaxed already. That was a good thing, after such an... Informal welcome. She also seemed happy, which was also good. She wouldn't like a sad roommate, they were no fun. As her roommate entered her new bedroom, Lila answered, "Yeah, just me. Well, you too now." She wanted Pandora to feel as comfortable as possible. The girl's lack of possessions wasn't anything to worry about. Lila just assumed she wanted a new start. Plus, she didn't have too much either. Her attention drifting away from what Pandora was unpacking, she listened to what she had to say and answered,

"Oh, really? I've never had a roommate, when I moved here they put me in this room by myself. So, I've been here alone until tonight. That's why I wasn't really expecting you to come in. I guess the big room was just lucky." And this time it was truly lucky. It took until after she had received her room that she realised some rooms were larger than others.

"Wait a minute- your roommate... Bailed? Like, left? Why?" Was she actually a terrible roommate? Was it possible to change roommates? Lila wanted to know a little more about the situation. "I've been here around the same amount of time," she added. And those two or three months she had been there had been some of the best of her life. Her short time in Manta Carlos now felt like years, with the amount of things that had happened.

As Pandora finished unpacking, Lila smiled. She actually had somebody to hang out with anytime she wanted. It felt great. "No, I haven't eaten," she said, walking over to the kitchen cupboards, which were mostly bare. They were hardly ever filled, but maybe she should keep them stocked now more than one person lived there. Usually, if she was hungry, she'd go down to the cafeteria to order food, or get some takeout delivered. "You like pizza?" She asked, thinking they could order some to their room with the town's inhumanly quick delivery service. She was also looking forward to getting to know Pandora and couldn't wait to have a relaxing night in.
