Renato stood in front of the school's main building, vivid green gaze sweeping absentmindedly across the beautiful courtyard while his fingers fiddled with the folded sheet of paper in his hands. He had kept the paper Kai had given him even after he had added the number to his own cell phone's contact list. Every so often, he would glance at the scrawling, almost curling numbers on the sheet. After doing that several times, he folded the paper into a smaller square, then tucked it into the right pocket of his crisp black jeans. From his left pocket, he pulled out his cell, checking the text Kai had sent him earlier that day for what seemed to be like the hundredth time. He fingered the hem of his tastefully faded metallic red and black vest, which covered the black dress shirt he wore with the top buttons undone, as he wondered what the empath had in mind when telling him to meet him in front of the main office.

The night was still fairly young, the sun setting just below the western horizon. There weren't many people in the courtyard, most of them having gone to eat dinner or hang out with friends, but those that were lying around in the grass or beneath the large trees covertly glanced at Ren. It was common knowledge that Ren was quite the flirt, so it wasn't surprising to see the shifter going out with someone for the night. The only thing that parked their curiosity was who, exactly, had caught Ren's attention this time. The only thing on Ren's mind, however, was the empath. Kai managed to bring out every loving, protective urge Ren had in him, and though he knew that was partly due to the potential bond between them, he also knew that even without the possibility of the bond, he and Kai would've become great friends if they had ever met by chance.
