Pham Thi Anh Sang

Chocolate was one of the ultimate Goods in the world. Cookies were another, but Anh Sang already had that field covered. Hopefully. Maybe. At least they looked edible. This was a good thing, she thought. Since grabbing random people from the hallways seemed like a good method for dealing with the elections, she decided just to revert back to that. She liked to think that she was getting a good record for it, and it seemed like people were starting to get used to the idea because now they were just getting out of the way. It was great! Now she didn't have to keep bumping into people!

She might have been out of money after buying all of those bananas earlier but Anh Sang was a girl and moreover, she was pretty young. She had lots of chocolate. Always. Granted, not all of it was pure chocolate that people normally used for making hot chocolate but it would totally work out. Caramel was nice and sweet and toffee was good and oh, so was mint and cherry filling.

Anh Sang felt reasonably confident with herself as she flew down the hallway -not really, but her butterflies were supporting her candy bag behind her. It was close enough. The very first thing she did was look around the crowd for somebody familiar. Since there wasn't anybody, she just literally picked a normal person, skidding to a stop right in front of them.

"Hi! I'm Anh Sang! I need help doing things for the election!"

This was... alright then. Anastasia wasn't sure what to think when an absolutely tiny girl skidded to a stop in front of her, demanding her help.

"For... the election?" Anastasia could only pause, the wheels in her brain spinning frantically in hopes they'd catch. Everyone she'd seen participating had been in college or highschool, and she was blissfully unaware of the fact that elementary students could even participate.

"For... your big brother?" It was the first thing that popped into her head, even if she had no way of knowing if it was right or not. Maybe it was a big sister. Maybe they were actually forty years old and just looked like they were ten. Anastasia hadn't even been planning to do election stuff that day - she had homework, and homework didn't stop just because you were running for student council.

She puffed out her cheeks in annoyance. "Nooo! I'm running for student council!" Anh Sang corrected the older girl. "I don't have any brothers or sisters anyways and I think I'm doing pretty well right now!" Mentally, she was checking off a bunch of things off of her to-do list. Finding the information club, talking with Wei, baking cookies, doing fun election things with Morgan. It was a good month.

"I need help making hot chocolate to give people, though." Since it seemed to work so well before, Anh Sang stared up, widening her eyes into what she thought was a cute expression. "Could you help me? The stoves are too high and stuff melts weirdly."

Anastasia was not the person to be asking for help. For one, she was not much of a cook. For another, she had no younger siblings, and she didn't really have a good base to work off of with regards to younger children. The only children she really dealt with were ones learning sambo, and they were expected to... well, to be respectful. To act seriously, and not like little kids.

"I... guess I could." She finally said, although she was obviously still wrapping her head around it. "My name is Anastasia Mikhailovna Usenko." She wondered if the girl had seen her posters on the walls, but decided she might not have - better to be safe. "I am also running for student council. Are you planning to try and be president?" She hoped not. Because if so... well, it was possible someone was going to crush the poor girl's dream.

"Eh?" To be perfectly honest, no, Anh Sang hadn't noticed that she had managed to find yet another student council candidate. She glanced around quickly at the walls, as if there would be some magical thing which would change it so that she hadn't just made a small mistake. Sure enough, there were pictures of the blonde-haired girl up there.

She squinted. On second thought, that girl did seem a bit familiar now. Maybe that was why she had chosen her.

"Nice to meet you! I'm Pham Thi Anh Sang!" The elementary schooler introduced herself proudly, since it felt like she had to give a long name to match the other girl's long name. "Of course I'm running for president! Isn't that the point of the election?"

Russian names were easy. First name. Fathers name. Family name. Quick, easy. Easy to adapt to American standards (first name). Easy to be formal (last name). As for the girls name... well, it was a train wreck. What part was the first? What was the last? She knew Asian names were supposed to be backwards, but... was that two middle names?

After a moment, Anastasia decided the girl was probably 'Sang'. Realistically, the best thing she could do was just never say the girl's name. Avoid the issue entirely."Well... not really. I mean, I'm only planning for auditor, or maybe treasurer. I don't really plan to be president." And a part of her really hoped that a tiny child wasn't going to be president either. If it was, she was going to be in hell on earth trying to handle it. "But I'll help you, if you'd like."

Anh Sang cheered, complete with audible effects and an energetic fist pump. "Okay, yay! Thank you! I was in the kitchen before so I can probably get the pans and stuff," she said happily.

Did they need knives for hot chocolate, though? Some of the candy was pretty big and kind of hard. She guessed that they could always just bang it against something, though, or chuck it in the way it was.

She grabbed Anastasia's hand and began pulling her urgently towards the kitchens. "It's this way!"

Anastasia wasn't used to being grabbed and towed around, and she was having to put honest effort in to keep herself from showing her confusion... or her annoyance. Despite the young girl's enthusiasm, itwas a bit annoying that her usual plans had been so firmly derailed. She hadn't meant to go cooking or anything like that, but there she was just the same, being hauled away to a home ec room.

"I hope you have some kind of instructions. I've never made... hot chocolate before." She paused for just a second, seeming to consider what she'd just said. "Don't you just... put the powder in and swirl it around?" How elsewere you supposed to make hot chocolate? Was there something else she was missing?

"Well, yeah, I've never actually made any either," Anh Sang admitted. "Not the real stuff, anyways. The powdery stuff is good sometimes when you want it fast but I don't think restaurants actually serve it that way." Surely nobody would take the easy way out for a quick buck, right? People wouldn't just buy a cheap packet of dried stuff and mix it with water and call it fresh, right?

"This way is definitely better!" She said in full confidence, despite having no idea what she was doing. "It's not that hard to make hot chocolate. It's just milk and melted chocolate and marshmallows!"

Anastasia suspected that restaurants (well, perhaps not the super fancy ones) did indeed just use the instant stuff. She wasn't crazy enough that she thought restaurants wouldn't actually cut corners with stuff like that, and that whole 'melting chocolate' stuff sounded like an awful lot of work, even if Sang was making it sound like it was so much easier than it was.

"Do you have a recipe, at least? Because melting things - especially something like chocolate - is not as easy as it sounds." She was no chef, but she knew that much at least. "And you would need high quality chocolate, not just any chocolate bar." That part she was... pretty sure of. It couldn't just be as simple as chocolate and milk, could it?

Mostly she was worried about setting something on fire, not the risk of the chocolate coming out bad. If it was? No big deal for her, anyway.
