Nam Il is a sweet but extremely naïve boy who just so happens to be a genius. Having an extremely sheltered upbringing, he is very lacking in real world experience and though he technically knows what life is like, he can really only theorize based off of books and movies. Though he tries to reconcile the hypothetical with reality, it often fails because so little bad has personally happened to him in his life that he is unable to comprehend the true intensity and consequences of failure. He is gullible. So very gullible.
Used to following other people's orders, Nam Il is eager to please and in fact probably desperate for approval. Despite his intellect, he often feels worthless because he views solid, substantial progress as more valuable than a bunch of ideas in his head. The problem with him, which he is fully aware of, is that he doesn't like making anything new. He wants to but he is easily made nervous and doubts himself so much that he is afraid of touching on new territory, in case he somehow manages to destroy it.
More than anything, however, Nam Il has no idea what to do with his life. He has many factors going for him but all of that is pointless if he can't figure out what direction he wants to take. At this moment, he is essentially a jack of all trades, having considerable but not professional knowledge in most of the subjects that he has been exposed to. There is potential to be extraordinary in the things that he puts his mind to but nothing particularly sticks out to him. Except cooking. But surely he wouldn't be able to take that as a real career, right? Because of this, too, he never actually feels the need to branch out for the sake of knowledge, only if there is some other form of incentive.
Part of the problem is that Nam Il likes following instructions. He likes being able to do things well and professionally. He takes a lot of pride in his accomplishments and his ability to reproduce results. For example, cooking. If somebody gave him a cookbook and told him to make the most complicate recipe in there, he'll do it perfect the first time. If somebody told him to pick a lock and gave him a basic manual on how to do it, he could get it done pretty fast.
In terms of personality, a key trait is that Nam Il wants to help people and keep them safe. Since his family deals with magic and has been for centuries, he is knowledgeable about the dangers of different powers as well as the fact that his entire extended family is currently both cursed and also being hunted down by a variety of malicious beings. That's not even getting into the regular people with powers who are simply ill-intentioned. Of course, he can't do anything about the powers that people are born with, he has come up with the great idea of instead messing with magical artifacts instead. Meaning theft.
Magical artifacts are dangerous and easily abused and of course Nam Il wouldn't abuse them because he knows better. Therefore, the safest course of action obviously is for him to just take them away. Judging by this, Nam Il isn't exactly the most law abiding person around. He's simply too idealistic to realize that maybe he's in the wrong.
Powers

Major Power : Eternal Nightlights - Nam Il is able to transform objects that he touches into different sorts of lanterns. These objects can be as large and weighty as a desk in somebody's study but, at this time, no more than that. They also cannot be excessively complicated in terms of mechanics. Watches are okay. Cellphones are okay. Your futuristic jetpack or pocket sized nuke is not okay. A gun is okay. A plasma rifle is not okay. You get the idea.
The lanterns that Nam Il is able to produce can be of any style, color, shape, and size. These all vary depending on the object. The size of the lantern will never exceed more than a couple of feet and most of the time will never exceed more than one foot. While he isn't able to control what a lantern will look like, he is able to produce poles or strings that he can use to hold the lanterns with. These will never be more than five or six feet long. As soon as he stops making contact with the object, it automatically transforms back into whatever it was originally.
Lanterns that Nam Il makes glow with soul fueled magic which reveal illusions that fall within their light as well as hidden beings such as spirits and anybody hiding under invisibility. How strong this ability is, however, depends on how much magic he feeds into the light. It is clear how much magic he is using because the brightness of the light will reflect that.
The downside of this, however, is that the light naturally draws supernatural beings towards it. It's something of a compulsion that begins with innocent impulses that could be mistaken for being natural. If the light is looked at for too long, eventually these impulses become more nagging. Even more problematic is the fact that if the light is put out, Nam Il actually feels that as extreme pain because somebody just rip out part of his soul. It will grow back but that is a pretty traumatizing thing to experience. Lacking pieces of his soul will make him feel more tired and sluggish than usual.
There are several ways that the light could go out, all of them magical in natural. Elemental magic would not work but things that operate off of pure force, mana, whatever is preferred, could probably snuff it out. Anybody who feeds off of souls or collects souls, too, would have an easy time of simply snatching the bits out for themselves.
This power also works on people. It is completely consent based, however, and the lantern that they transform into will have a watered down version of their own powers in addition to what Nam Il's lanterns can normally do. Though they are in control of their powers, Nam Il himself will also have partial control, although at an extremely basic level. For example, if the person had fire manipulation as their power, Nam Il could wave the lantern can shoot a fireball. More than that? Nah, probably not. People in this state cannot talk but can generally communicate by causing the light in the lantern to flicker. Since this light is their soul, though, if it goes out, they would probably die.
History
Father : Sure does
Mother : She lives
Siblings : Let's say three younger ones
Childhood: Nam Il was born to a happy couple who were both alumni of Starlight Academy and therefore expecting their children to inherit their families' powers. Though his family was not extremely rich, they were above the average income line and provided him with a comfortable childhood with little worries for the future. His powers materialized early and by the age of five, his parents had already begun making plans for him to attend Starlight Academy.
Though for a long time, Nam Il's powers appeared to be relatively harmless in nature, his parents were in for a rude awakening when a lesser demon one day stormed into their house in the middle of the night, attracted by the light of one of the lanterns hanging in the window. His parents made it go away. That's really the best way to put what happened. They annihilated it.
It didn't stop there, however. Over the next few years, the event occurred again and again. It wasn't until when a member of the Ishikawa family stopped by that they learned the full extent of what was going on. The An family had actually been seeing an unusual amount of luck in the last few years. Their history had always been a long string of being attacked by malicious entities but recently, the attacks had simply stopped. This was the doing of a distant member of their family, a young girl who had accidentally managed to subdue some of the most powerful spirits who had been hunting them down.
Teenage Years: It wasn't until Nam Il had started setting lanterns everywhere that the attacks had started up again. The Ishikawa recommended sending Nam Il to Manta Carlos as soon as possible in order to avoid any unfortunate accidents. Since this was more or less in line with what the family had already planned, Nam Il packed his things, bade his parents and siblings goodbye, and headed off to Starlight Academy.
Additional Information : The girl who subdued the spirits is Yang Ji Hye.
