Personality Description:
Seth is most easily described as an introvert, keeping to himself rather often. However, since his arrival at Starlight Academy he has found himself more and more susceptible to social interactions- and while he doesn’t have anything against other people, these interactions more often than not tend to make him anxious. On the best of days he is appears to others to be quite mellow and quiet, but always polite and eager to answer people’s questions. On worse days, he can seem endlessly frazzled, and may be unclear in his responses to people, confusing others and himself with contradictions and obscurities because his mind is just somewhere else in that moment.
On a daily basis, however, he constantly seems to be in a state of total discomfort, never fitting in particularly well within his classroom, or even among his fellow colleagues. He always seems to be in a world of his own, and there’s very little he can do to cure that. He’s quite awkward socially, and will rarely be the first person to strike up a conversation. He tends to give short, one-word answers when engaging in small talk, mainly because his past interactions with other humans have led to nothing but anxiety and distress on his part. He has a terrible fear of the unfamiliar, which is why he tends to remain closeted, and avoid conversation with new people.
Over time, he has opened himself up, however slightly, to new encounters– and especially so since the start of his new life on Manta Carlos. However, he is still very shy, so approach with caution.

Major: Spontaneous Fungus Generation: Seth has the power to grow mushrooms from any surface. These mushrooms can be of any species or variety known to man, but the type of mushrooms that he creates is absolutely random. However, due to his extensive studying of fungi in college, he is able to detect which mushrooms are poisonous and which are not. The mushrooms, if poisonous, can be used in a number of deadly serums he stores on his person, in case of emergencies- if not, he sautés them quite nicely with peppers and onions twice a week. This power, while it can be used at will, is activated most often in times of distress.
Minor: Cornering: Seth can also summon up a corner for him to sulk in during times of distress. While this may not seem like a very useful defense mechanism, Seth’s corners provide him with protection from one magical attack per hour. However, they don’t protect him from any sort of non-power-related attack, and thus, he is still susceptible to things like thrown wads of paper, flicks, and natural disasters while sat in his corner.

Not surprisingly, Seth has kept a very quiet life up to this point. Throughout his childhood, his parents and relatives always knew that he was an odd duck, so they kind of let him do his own thing, only bothering with him to make sure he was well fed and always walked out of the house with clothes on. Because of this, young Seth had a lot of freedom to do what he pleased, which mostly involved sitting in his room with a pile of books and a children’s chemistry set. Furthermore, there was the issue of his curious…gift, which began to become more active around the age of four. The mushrooms were hard to hide from his parents, but he tried his best to do so anyway, hoping that if he just stayed quiet and out of sight, they would never notice. And so most of his childhood was spent in seclusion, and thus, he never really acclimated very well to society.
Adolescence was difficult, to say the least. Upon reaching middle school, Seth was immediately singled out by his fellow students as being “odd.” He was the go-to victim of name-callers, hallway-shovers, book thieves, lunch money-grabbers, and other brands of schoolyard bully. He therefore tried to steer clear of his peers as much as possible, in order to avoid one of numerous possible humiliating encounters. He would take the long way to class, hide behind the building until all of the students went home, and even pose as a teacher to avoid being noticed by his frequent bullies. Eventually, they just got fed up with his paranoid antics, and refused to deal with him at all.
He spent most of his time during and after school in the science lab rooms, where his teachers, also aware that he was an odd duck and also not wanting to deal with him, allowed him to work on his own private research projects in peace. He entered himself into a few science competitions, and won enough scholarship money to send him to a prestigious research institute, where he continued to study science with a heavy concentration on the curious little fungi with which he surrounded himself for as long as he could remember. He came out of college with a degree in environmental science with a minor in chemistry. His work with fungi (much of which were grown by his own power) was able to win him another scholarship that put him through graduate school, and so he was able to get a masters degree in mycology. Having completed all the schooling he could afford to do, he decided that it might be best to use his knowledge to give back to other students with similar interests. Thus, he successfully obtained his teaching certification, and set out to achieve his new goal of becoming a science teacher.
Unfortunately, he found himself mortifyingly unsuccessful at conventional schools; his demeanor made him a laughing stock to his students, while his power came to them as a great shock and a cause for concern to staff. Eventually, a guidance counselor who knew of Starlight Academy recommended he look for a position there, and, feeling that he might be more accepted in a place where other people had gifts like his, he did just that.
Additional Information: Occasionally he will be caught giving the mushrooms names and having conversations with them. He refers to them in his mind as his Fungi Friends. Despite this he has no qualms about eating them.
