Wong Ha Jung

The coffee shop was a decent sized establishment that was just a bit above average in terms of quality. It wasn't an especially nice place but it wasn't a bad place either so that was good enough for Wong Ha Jung. Even though he wasn't much of a coffee drinker, it was on the way from his apartment to the Academy, so it was convenient for him to stop by for a light breakfast sometimes. Since it was also the closest restaurant to campus, that was why the counselor had brought William and his spirits there that day.

They actually had pretty bad timing, and Wong Ha Jung really should have thought of that beforehand. It was about mid afternoon so the coffee shop was already mostly full by the time they arrived. With a little bit of searching, however, they managed to miraculously find a table in a corner, half hidden by a fat support beam. The four of them settled around it after making their orders at the cashier and getting one of those numbered cards to put into a tabletop holder. They had their drinks, though, and the very first thing that the counselor did after sitting down was to dump three packets of sugar into his iced tea.

He stirred the mixture with his straw, wondering. All right, so we're here. Now what? He didn't really have a plan or anything for how he wanted to proceed with this. He just, well. Wanted to talk. In a place that wasn't his office for once. After all, he was going to be tied down to it an awful lot in the next week. Next two weeks, maybe. Three at most. Okay, he had no idea.

"Ah, what happened back there anyways?" Wong Ha Jung asked the boy. "I never did get your side of it." He tasted his tea and sighed quietly. It was too sweet, which was what he had been aiming for. Normally, sugar helped him keep calm.

Conveniently distracted by the problem of how can you get a wolf to drink his cup of coffee since Spirit didn't exactly have hands to hold the cup, he almost missed Wong's question. For a moment, he wondered if he could pretend that he really did miss it, only, what was the point of coming here then, besides wasting the man's time and money?

In the end, he simply put Spirit's cup down beside him, giving him a small apologetic smile that only made the wolf scoff. I'll figure it out. he said, as William straightened his back again, turning towards Wong while nursing his own drinks as a form of rather small but still welcomed distraction.

Nothing much. he said, taking a sip out of the bitter drink and waiting for the warmth to slip down to his belly. The idiots ambushed me as I was going back to the dorms after the last class.[/B It wasn't an unusual thing, and by this point, he had almost been expecting it. What was new, however, was the share number of the attackers. Thought that if there were more of them they would have a chance of beating me. [/B he scoffed at that, amused by their idiotic stupidity. I kind of beaten all of them once or twice in the past. he explained warily, conscious of the fast that Wong probably won't like that. So they wanted revenge, or something like that.

"I see." So it had happened more or less as how the counselor had guessed, then. As relieved as he was that William hadn't gone looking for trouble -he hadn't thought so anyways, but it was still nice to be certain- the part about the boy's previous fights had hardly gone unnoticed. How many of the other fights did you start, then? Wong Ha Jung wondered. The question wasn't meant to be an accusation or a rebuke. It was just what it was: honest curiosity. But just so there wasn't confusion about it, he asked instead, "How did the other fights begin?"

There was another thing on his mind as well, but he wasn't sure how to phrase it. Eleven students caught in a fight and it seems like they all used their fists. The counselor wasn't sure whether the lack of weapons was because of pride, because nobody thought of it, or because everybody involved didn't want to be charged with attempted murder. Or maybe because he just wasn't giving them enough credit and they knew better than to go to that extreme. Back when I was in school, he thought uncomfortably, people would just draw knives on you and call it a day.

Once again, William's eyes darted towards Spirit as Wong started to speak. The wolf had found a way, during those few short minutes the boy hadn't been looking at him, to hold the cup in between his paws and was now quietly drinking coffee from it without making too much of a mess. William knew he was just using him as a distraction again, and a quick glance towards Warrior told him that the silver haired creature knew it as well.

Sometimes... It would be because I'd been feeling restless. he said, his cup now in front of him with both of his hands put around it, his eyes cast down as if he could see the future of the world written down in it. He didn't dare look the man in the eyes, even though he had already come to terms with the fact that he would have to talk eventually, and that it might as well be then with somebody like Wong, who would actually listen rather than somebody like that vampire teach who would just want to eat him alive.

So I would go out seeking for a fight. he said, still biting on his lip as he spoke, as he was well aware that what he was about to say, and had already sad, would very well land him in trouble.

Sparing with Warrior is fine, but I know he won't really hurt me. he said, now frowning at his drink. The same went for the sparring matches with the guys and girls that were part of the Sports Club. They fought, but it ended the moment somebody said he couldn't go any further. It wasn't real. It wasn't the same.

The fights with other students...They are real. They... They get my blood moving. he thought, wondering how much honestly would be too much. Still he finished the thought, looking the man in the eyes briefly, still wary of his judgement.

Other times, it would be because they were teasing, and I'd just explode. He still suck at dealing with provocation no matter how many times Spirit bit on his hand when he would explode at other students.

And then there are the times like this one when I was the one who was being ambushed. he finished, nursing his now cooling drink. So I guess it just depends, really.

The counselor took a sip of his drink, thinking to himself. The answer was surprisingly truthful. "If I asked you to not get into anymore fights, would you try to do that?" he said gently. Not all the problems in the world could be solved by asking somebody to do or not to do something but he could still try.

"I know that it might be hard to avoid if people are trying to provoke you, but I don't like seeing anybody hurt. Not to mention, it is against school policy." With an apologetic smile, Wong Ha Jung said, "I won't report anything you tell me today but if you begin any more fights and I find out about it, I can't lie for you. I'd like to but it would kind of be immoral to do so. I really don't want to cause you much trouble."

"They have a training room somewhere in the city now, if your restlessness gets to the point where you need to do something. I'm not sure if you've seen it yet. Personally, I've never been there myself so I can't say much more about it besides that it exists." He shrugged lightly. "I'm pretty useless in fights."

A server came with food, then, doing a double take at the sight of the four of them sitting there. She got over it fairly quickly, however, and left just as fast, so that Wong Ha Jung barely had time to even thank her. At least he had his food then -just soup and a sandwich- and the smell of it was reminding him that he was actually pretty hungry. He should really stop skipping meals, but it always seemed like there was something important he had to be doing.

"To be honest, though, you're still probably much better about it than a lot of people I've met," the counselor said thoughtfully. "Most of the fights back at home involved people trying to stab each other with things. Nails, pencils, actual knives. That sort of thing. It was kind of-" awful was the word that came to mind "-ah, bad." He had a few spoonfuls of his soup before speaking again. I should probably finish this as soon as possible, he thought.

"How were things back at your previous school?" Wong Ha Jung asked the boy. "Was it much like it is here?"

I've been. William said, his body relaxing a bit as he saw that despite what he had said, the counselor had stayed calm. To the Training Room. he clarified, taking another sip of his drink as Spirit smirked into his. You left out 'dragged' there. he said, and William once again turned his eyes towards him in a glare, which only made the wolf snicker.

Anyway...The point is that I've been. he continued as server came by their table, bringing them their food. Once more, he had to stop speaking for a moment to unwrap Spirit's sandwich for him, before biting into his own. And it's good. he said, thinking back to some of the more dangerous scenarios he had played. Which is why I had stopped starting fights. he said, rising his head so he could look at Wong. About he month ago. he finished, biting into his meal once more to give himself some time to think.

The most of those that I get in now are the 'revenge' fights. he continued speaking after a moment of silence. Which means that I get ambushed like I did today and have no other choice but to fight...or get beaten to the ground.

And they are too afraid to use weapons.
a small smile made its way to his face as he said that, his eyes looking up, towards Warrior's swords. They know from experience that Warrior won't hesitate to duel with anybody who thinks of bringing anything with a blade. He himself didn't know how to, or even liked, using weapons and he said as much to Wong, before suddenly clamming up at the mention of his previous school.

There were...no fights. he muttered, closing his eyes. Or at least not fights like these...It was...different...there. I was different there.

He listened through the boy's answer, using the time to neatly rush through most of his soup. "Then I'm glad to hear that the training room has helped you," the counselor said. One issue out of the way, then, although the other one right behind it might be some trouble. "Ah..." How was he supposed to say this?

"Technically," the counselor continued with some hesitance, "school policy dictates that we're supposed to punish people for self defense as well. Not to the same extent as the ones who started it, but still. That rule's been made specifically to discourage all fighting, so there are consequences for all parties involved." Obviously, it wasn't very popular among students who were just defending themselves but seeing what kinds of powers were among the student body, it made everybody marginally safer.

Wong Ha Jung shook his head. "Just be mindful of your punches, please, if you don't have any other choice but to get into something. If anybody starts anything with you again... Let me know and I'll see what I can do about it." He couldn't see how William would possibly stand for being the passive party in an altercation so he didn't try too hard to convince him to stop defending himself. In any case, with a fight as large as the one that had happened today, it was kind of a stupid idea to tell the boy such a thing anyways.

Should I push more? he wondered to himself worriedly as William suddenly went quiet. Yes, of course he should. Maybe. Hadn't he already decided that he was going to do that now? Maybe he hadn't actually gotten around to wording it exactly in that way. He finished up his soup, using that time to think about what he wanted to say.

"At your other school, was it a good different?" the counselor asked mildly. "Or a bad different?"

I know that, doc. the boy said, rolling his eyes at the man as he unwrapped the second sandwich for the wolf (he really wasn't kidding when he said he hoped had enough money to feed a hungry wolf back at the filed), happy to speak again, as long as they stayed away from his old school, or anything connected to his past really. Somehow, though, he knew that Wong wasn't going to give up on that. Thus, he though, he should speak as much as he could now, so the man wouldn't push him too far afterwards. Hopefully.

Usually, he was not the one for trying to weasel out his way out of the bad situation, seeing it as something that was beneath his honour, such as it was, and definitely beneath his pride. He has, however, had a moment of weakens in which he had broke under the constant commentary of the teachers escorting him to the Office and told them that it was not himself who had started a fight. He was, still, just as Wong had just said, punished.

And there is really nothing much you can do, you know. he said, snorting into his coffee amused. Idiots will be idiots. The only thing you could do would be to get me out trouble. he said, giving this time, a small but honest laugh. But I guess you won't do that. he was still smiling at the man, a sign of trust which was these day rare. So, yeah, I'll try and be careful...but don't expect me to just stand there and be beaten into a blood pulp.

And as the man started asking about his old life again, William once more became aware of that little voice in the back of his head that sounded too much like Spirit for him to be comfortable with it, which finished all the sentences that he wouldn't say.

It was normal. Up to a point. I wasn't such a loud mouth then, for one. Probably because I refused to speak to anybody for over a year. I..didn't have Spirit, at first. Relied too much on him later. So...yeah. Wouldn't it be easier if you just told him? he asked himself, his head falling down on his hands, as he moved his now empty cup.

I don't like to speak about that. he muttered in the end. I was so weak back than.

Um, if it isn't clear, and it probably isn't, that last line is in both italic and bold because he both thought it and said it. xD So, yeah, just so you know that you can work with that.

Wong Ha Jung

"I don't think many people have high opinions of their past selves," Wong Ha Jung mused, glancing away for a moment. He took a bite out of his sandwich and choked on it a little when he swallowed. "I certainly don't," he said, coughing into the back of his hand. That was what he got from trying to rush through things. He sighed. "There's different types of weak, William. Most people, in any stage of life, don't hit all of them. In any case, it's no good trying to judge your younger self so harshly, not at the age that you are now. It's not very reasonable to expect perfection in childhood and all it'll do is make you upset if you dwell on it."

As soon as the words left his mouth, the counselor almost instantly regretted it. Not because he hadn't meant to say it but because he hadn't meant to say it so bitterly in that particular tone. It just made the hypocrisy there so much more evident. He slumped a little in his seat. "Never mind," he said, with a soft, rueful laugh. He drank some of his tea and stared at the glass for a short while after he had put it back. "It was a long time ago and I'm just being silly as usual." He just wished that it was easier to follow his own advice.

The man took a few moments to simply sit in silence, eating his food. All of the activity of the day was starting to catch up with him. Maybe some of the stress from his long -totally unethical- work hours were starting to catch up with him. It seemed like every day, Wong Ha Jung was coming in earlier and leaving later. Which, he supposed absently, was really quite understandable considering everything.

"How did you two meet, anyways?" he said after a time, glancing from William to Spirit. He already knew from the boy's file that other spirit had appeared while he was already at the Academy. "It seems like it's been quite some time. Not, ah, not like a good majority of the students who get their letters immediately after discovering their powers." He shook his head. "Forgive me if I'm not being clear."

This isn't judgement, doc. he said, laughing bitterly as he raised his head so he could look at the man. He will not be hiding, he decided, even though all he wanted to do was to either run, or cover his head with his arms so he wouldn't have to look at the man. It is the truth...

Stop! in the moment of silence, Spirit's sudden bark sounded like thunder. William looked him surprised, but not really. He was just waiting for the wolf to speak, somehow. You were not weak, you were hurt and it was not your own fault. the wolf spoke again, his fur bristled, his teeth bared, his posture a definition of anger. It still seems weak to me. he muttered, looking away, as if he couldn't bare the look the wolf was sure to give him. Of course it does! the wolf barked again and by this point, half of the shop was looking at them. But just because you had learned how to beat up others ans act as a delinquent since then! Even without hearing the end of that sentence, William understood what Spirit was trying to say and his shoulders fell. He wondered how rude it would be to just get up now, leave Wong there, and go to his room to lie on his bed until the world made sense again.

Probably too rude for either of his spirits to take it, he thought, laughing into his own hand as it covered his face. He moved his fingers just a bit, making a crack through which he could see Wong.

What do you mean, how did we meet? I summoned him. he said, still hiding his face, while Spirit's tale still sweep over the floor angrily. Must be...it's six years now isn't it? he asked the wolf, but the creature only huffed in response. Well, I was thirteen then, I'm nineteen now, so it's gotta be six years. he sighed, falling back into his chair, his hands falling beside him. I got lost while in the summer camp, I can't even remember how any more, though I think I'll always remember those two hours during which I sat alone in the dark perfectly. Anyway, by the end of the second hours I was damn scared that my body produced a natural reaction to it: someone to protect me. he said, glancing down with a smile. He was a runt back than, though, barely this big. he added, making with his hands what passed as a normal size for, let's say, a Labrador pup. The wolf snorted, settling down again. He wanted for William to talk about his past, by why did it always have to begin with him being that small?!

So instead of him protecting me, I protected him. William said, still having a mischievous smile on his face. Surprisingly, talking about this part of his life wasn't all that hard. It was almost fun. Worked well enough though, I calmed down and found me soon afterwards. he said, giving a small chuckle before he remembered what comes after that.

And then, well... he said, trailing off as he quieted down. Then stuff happened. You asked how me 'met'. That's how.
