"Good to see you again," Cornelius said with a brief nod. "I hope I did not interrupt anything." Not that he really cared if he did, it was just expected of him to give some sort of an apology although he was confused as to why. It seemed more honest to simply say that he did not care but people were strange like that.

"Arianell, if you will?" he prompted.

Aria internally snickered at the dryness of Cornelius' tone. But she nodded at Cornelius and stepped forward to address Jude. "Hello again," she smiled and began, though she adopted the sort of vaguely formal tone that seemed more appropriate for the situation. This was official regalia business... or something like that. "Cornelius and I have been talking about how... determined you've been in the tournament despite a number of losses."

Aria glanced back at Cornelius before returning her gaze to Jude. Ignoring his regalia for the moment because he wasn't really a part of this necessarily. "He has decided to offer you a reward for your persistence. And for my own reasons I have agreed that you may be worthy of learning some of what I could offer." What exactly she was offering him was easier explained by demonstration rather than just explanation alone. Besides Jude already would have known her abilities anyway. She reached out into the air by her side and through a tear she retrieved a simple water bottle.

"As I told Cornelius, I am willing to offer you knowledge of how to use dimensional storage, but I am afraid I must insist on one thing from you first. A demonstration of your honesty. I am aware it may not be easy for you but I would like you to explain to me why you were distracted and unable to properly finish the challenge with KirMir," she finished and waited patiently for his response. There it was. She was already impressed with his general maturity and how he treated people but when it came down to it she was deeply linked with honesty so she had to ask for an honest answer to something. Even if it made him dislike her some.

The tension in Jude's shoulders seemed to visibly fade as Aria took over, bringing up... losses? That was what it sounded like. At first he couldn't help but have a wait, are they saying I'm the biggest loser?, before realizing that it was something more like perserverence. There was no mandatory minimum on the number of matches someone had to participate in, and he imagined that a lot of people got their first loss and then called it a day, leaving the tournament with a 0-1 ratio. He had some wins, but he also had a lot of losses, and he'd explicitly credit that to knowing that the 'prize' was a bit of a... well. It wasn't good.

For a moment, Wolfgang looked like he was going to make a comment, but after a quick glance to Cornelius he decided to keep his mouth shut.

The tension slid right back in on ask something of you first, and then... honesty. A truth. His brain was running a mile a minute, thinking of all the possible options, only to hear that Aria already had something in mind - something he should have realized on his own.

Someone else might have been able to claim ignorance, to say I don't recall, but Jude couldn't. He mentally rewound to the exact moment, picking through it in his head. He was far enough away from it emotionally to know the answer, to be able to say exactly why he'd left as he did, even as he grimaced, giving Cornelius a small glance before deciding he wouldn't care. What about Wolfgang? Jude shot him a brief look, and Wolfgang nodded in return.

"I'll get-"

Jude shook his head.

"The point is... is honesty. So you might as well stay here."

Just as long as he didn't mention it to Jude's dad... but he'd deal with that later.

"KirMir was talking about... the lethality of weapons and the laws. They were right that, at home, you didn't want lethal weapons going around. Even when dealing with dangerous criminals, you wanted non-lethal as much as possible. But then they asked 'Would you hesitate to take a life?' and that was... that was a bit too close to me. I'd never killed anyone back home, but I had to here. Maybe two weeks before our challenge. I had to kill someone in self defense, and I didn't hesitate for it, and it was..."

His voice cracked, and his eyes went down. There was no way he was making eye contact.

"...hard," he finally finished.

Aria had been watching Jude carefully as he reacted to what she was saying. The relief at her taking over and then the tension as she finished explaining what she wanted from him.

Aria took zero pleasure from making Jude think back to what had clearly caused him so much discomfort. In short, it sucked to be the sort of bad guy in this. But Jude didn't even try to lie. Didn't try to hide the truth. He just slowly explained it as best he could. The answer was... well fairly predictable maybe, but Aria didn't care about the actual answer. Only that it didn't trip her bs meter.

She slowly stepped forward to Jude, her 'official' tone dropping for the moment and replaced by a compassionate smile even though he was unable to look her in the eyes anymore. "I know it's painful for you and I really am sorry to have insisted on bringing that back up. It had to be something meaningful," she offered in a low voice as it was intended for Jude and not necessarily everyone present. She quietly put forth her hand for Jude to shake an then raised her voice again to add, "you were honest with me and i'm more than satisfied you won't abuse this gift i'm offering."

Aria didn't really need to confirm with Cornelius. He'd essentially already given his blessing for this reward as long as Aria agreed to it. Still she took one look back over her shoulder to respectfully nod at the man before returning her gaze to poor Jude standing in front of her.

It was a mercy, Jude reminded himself. She asked in private. She wasn't the type to spread it around. She seemed to understand the weight of it, and she was sympathetic, and what he was getting out of it was vastly more valuable than what he'd given. But even so he felt like there was a stone in his belly, a weight that hadn't been there before. Mostly he tried not to think about what had happened. He didn't want it brought up. He wanted it in the past. Something that existed in the past, not in the present, that didn't color his daily life in any way at all.

Even if it did.

He tried to focus on the positives. Pocket dimension. That would be nice. A pocket dimension was useful for a variety of things, regardless of the exact nature of how it worked. It was something that he could work on with Broen, who was already vastly more skilled, and..

Oh right she had her hand out.

Jude caught himself (Maybe a little bit too slowly), reaching out to take Aria's hand and giving it a nice firm shake. The kind of handshake you practiced, because he had.

"Thank you," he said after a moment. "I'm sorry it interrupted the challenge in the first place. I'd have liked to have finished, but I suspected I'd have lost anyway." Mostly because, you know, KirMir was all but impossible to read.

Aria's hand was soft but her grip was firm. She knew how to be polite and respectful even if she generally kept herself more casual in her day to day life.

"You should thank Cornelius too. Without his decision I would not have had the opportunity to share my ability with you," she replied with a smile and a nod towards Cornelius. Jude was the kind of person who probably already knew that but Aria was trying to conduct this as properly as she could. Cornelius was in charge of this tournament and all it included.

He was right, the way it had been going it was unlikely Jude would have managed to win. Although for her friends sake she hoped Jude would be able to stay friendly with KirMir despite what had happened at the challenge. She knew already that KirMir did actually feel bad about bringing the topic up that bothered Jude so much and they were not offended at all that he had left.

"Well i've given you the spark of my ability. It's up to you to decide how to train it and whom to train it with. If you have someone you wish to do that with then that is fine, or I can make myself available if need be," she offered graciously and then stepped to the side, turning back to face Cornelius properly.

"Unless there's anything else you need us to do I think the reward has been given?" She asked the man. For all Aria knew there were some hidden extra hoops to jump through, but honestly she kind of doubted that. Cornelius didn't seem like he wanted to linger there too long anyway.

"That will be all, Arianell," Cornelius said. "Thank you both for showing up on such short notice." He paused for a moment before saying to Jude, "Good luck with your new ability." For once, Cornelius was actually trying to be considerate. Abilities meant powers which meant responsibility and Cornelius knew what it was like to be buried under them.

Jude didn't particularly like Cornelius. A small part of that was the fact that Cornelius had effectively tricked him on their second ever meeting. The rest was the fact that the entire tournament was... well, sketchy. Poorly handled, as Jude would say. It was just a way to shuffle his responsibilities off onto someone who was ill prepared and unaware of the consequences.

But that wasn't going to stop him from being nice and formal.

He turned to Cornelius, giving him a small bow.

"Thank you for this," Jude said, in his very polite talking-to-the-sponsors tone. "I'm going to do my best to make good use of the ability."

He gave Aria a quick glance, and then straightened up, giving a small crack of his neck. He was going to have to deal with his arm, and then... well, then he could probably practice it to see how it worked.

He gave another small bow - to both of them - and then straightened up.

"It was good seeing you both again though." He suspected he'd see at least one of them again soon.

Aria gave a very respectful nod to Cornelius. She didn't particularly like or dislike him, but in this situation he was her superior so the respect was appropriate. "Very well, have a nice rest of your day Cornelius," she called out as he prepared to leave.

To Jude she also nodded but she was also giving him a smile instead of the 'I'm doing this because i'm supposed to' neutral face she had for Cornelius. She had respect for him that didn't come from a position or title, or she would have never agreed to give him her power- regardless of what Cornelius wanted.

"It was good to see you again too. Glad you're doing ok and... that's a pretty sweet arm. Take care of yourself," she chuckled and then opened a portal for herself to leave through. She was ready to get changed and go relax for a bit.
