She's almost always dressed in a soft collared shirt and a brown sweater. She's a respectable bespectacled science nerd and sometimes she'll even look the part with the white lab coat, too. Jia An is spindly and willowy and she looks... completely average.
She's got wings and a big feathered tail but they're incorporeal and end up passing through anything and everything. Being longer than she is tall, when folded, her wings drag along the ground. Or phase into the ground. Depends on how you look at it! They're also the same colour as her hair, and apart from their sheer size, utterly unremarkable.

Pacifist in nature, non-confrontational, and entirely passive-aggressive about it all, Jia An wields her sharp wit and barbed tongue like a shield. Her philosophy involves never getting involved in (physical) disputes unless absolutely driven to it; in which case she does her utmost to cut it down as viciously as possible. "You can't win just the first battle; you've got to win the war", after all. In line with this thinking is her unending snark; but of course, you can't snipe at everyone all the time, so Jia An is mostly a very nice, very chill kind of girl. She makes far too many bad jokes and appreciates the Fine Art of the Dad Joke.
Jia An is also a big science nerd with an appreciation for the literary arts. She often thinks of odd theories about what she's learnt, discovering new things on her own (that have already been discovered), and if not, learning about them on the internet. She's intuitive - moreso than most are beyond instinct - and picks up on mood changes well; possibly because she spends more time watching people than interacting with them. She's also good at picking out lies by identifying bodily clues and, well, sometimes it's really just gut instinct and perceptiveness. Consequently, she's a good liar as well, but she doesn't believe in lying... completely. Due to her bilingualism, Jia An sometimes speaks in an entirely different language or uses euphemisms that may be lost on non-mandarin speakers. She may do this without realising, or on purpose to annoy people.
It's obvious that she has a sense of self-pride, but also second-guesses herself more than is necessary and has too little self-confidence. She may say something and cut herself off. She may also begin to speak and then stop, and often dismisses her own opinions as rubbish or unimportant. She may not even speak to begin with! Safe to say, while an introspective creature, Jia An isn't fond of sharing. She's more likely to deflect and keep attention off herself to avoid such situations in the first place. If there ever were a sign above her head, it would probably say: "PLEASE DON'T TALK TO THE HUMAN."
Also, she’s a “special brand of lazy” - ie she’d rather do something worth her time; if not, then not at all. What is worth her time? A challenge, helping someone else, or simply whatever catches (and holds) her interest! Jia An is a perfectionist to the core. While she may not be the easiest to get moving, once she does, she doesn't stop until it's absolutely as she wants it to be. She may even get lost in it, having eyes only for something for a length of time. This does mean that she'll rarely do just about anything unless there's something in it for her, usually personal gratification.
She also prefers to go by Jia An or Ms Li, if she's teaching, but she can and will pull the "Doctor Card" if someone is annoying or being condescending towards her.

Somehow, by folding the fabric of space and time, Jia An can teleport from place to place. Obviously she can't get to somewhere she's never been before, and she can't teleport across the entire island (in one shot). Anywhere in a 10km radius is doable at once, but the further she goes the more effort it takes. Going 10km at one shot would leave her wheezing and lightheaded, so it's good that all she really uses it for is blipping to and from class! She can also teleport items to her so long as they're clearly within her range of vision and not too big or too heavy. A desk is pushing it.
Making things fly
Jia An can levitate people and things by gripping them with magic and lifting them. It may feel as if something were grabbing the chest and hefting them up, or feel like nothing at all, depending on the person. Objects are easier to lift, though weight also plays a role. As long as the object or organism doesn't weigh much more than 100kg, Jia An can levitate it. She can maintain her hold on very light things almost indefinitely while a 100kg man will have her breathless and dizzy in five minutes flat.
Now you see me
It's not very impressive or anything, and it certainly doesn't get rid of them, but Jia An can hide her wings and tail (and anything else physically part of her person) from view. They don't disappear but they do become invisible. She can still use them when they look like this. Having honed this skill since young, she can easily hide her them for days on end.

You might think she's half-bird with all the things she has: wings, tail, hollow bones and being shockingly light for her size. They seem to be weightless, so they don't hinder her when she moves. Her wings and tail are incorporeal but visible, and both serve their respective functions. And like a bird, Jia An can fly. Jia An also has the heightened senses of a bird of prey.

Jia An has some sort of bird-attracting aura, apparently. She's constantly surrounded by at least 5 crows at any point in time, and any other miscellaneous assorted avians. It compels birds to surround her and be near to her, and seems to have a "preference" for crows.

She can talk to birds. She can understand birds. She can ask birds to do things for her. Whether or not they actually do, is another matter entirely.

Lighter bones are bound to have some sort of consequence. Jia An is ridiculously lightweight to the point of being considered underweight for a human. She's also physically weak. Very weak. She possesses little strength and little muscle, so you could sit on her and she'd literally be incapable of getting up. She can still do most daily tasks, though.

Jia An had a pretty unremarkable childhood. Her wings and tail didn't start growing in until puberty hit, but thankfully her family had a history of children with avian traits, so they were pretty accepting! To account for her physical weaknesses she was taught how to dodge things, which was one of the reasons for her non-confrontational nature. To avoid awkward questions in school, she was taught how to make them invisible, which worked wonders.
In her spare time she learnt the craft of woodworking and she helped out with her grandfather's smithing business despite her lack of physical strength. Her grandfather had lived through WWII and valued resourcefulness and tenacity, so Jia An quickly learnt to repair and recycle things around the house. She read widely and constantly, and developed an interest in chemistry and magic after watching her mother, who was a chemist, explode some things in the kitchen, then sneakily fix them when she thought no one was watching. But Jia An was, and she shamelessly bugged her mother to teach her after the incident.
Jia An finished her university studies ahead of her peers as she'd skipped the first two years of primary school after proving herself capable of knowing all the content well enough to do so. She refused to skip anymore, though, so as to seem slightly more normal. As a result, she entered university earlier and after graduating, proceeded to earn her Ph.D in Chemistry. She didn't study physics at university level, but she does have an A in physics at Junior College standard!
She spent some time in a lab doing research work before discovering a letter in the mail. Turns out it was an invitation to teach at Starlight Academy, which she promptly accepted.
Resources: She's not very rich, and doesn't have money towaste spend on frivolous things. She's got a wooden staff as long as she is tall, crafted during her breaks and used as a walking stick when she leaves the school to do... things.
