So...About That Question(Paradox)

Leon had never gotten an answer, but he understood perfectly as to why. It wasn't something that could be answered real easily. That and with everything that was going on at the time made things more awkward and worse. Still, Leon did feel bad about his contribution to making things hard on Adelene during that time. Hell he even felt bad for raising his sword at another person just because he lost his temper.

Leon had kept his distance from Adelene for a few days. He need time to collect his own thoughts and allow her to collect her own. Even if the answer was a "No", then Leon wouldn't mind. As long as his friendship with Adelene wasn't ruined. It would still be weird sure, but if they were still friends then he would do his best to brush it off.

Coming back to reality Leon hadn't even registered that during his jog the grey storm clouds over his head had turned into rain. He wasn't completely bothered though. It wasn't a downpour and he could see see out his goggles enough to keep going. The streets were sparse with people save himself and a few others out in the rain. The patter of his feet hitting the wet ground echoed with the otherwise soundless street.

Leon came to a stop underneath a bus stop bench and jogged in place for a moment before stopping and taking a seat to escape the rain staring at the ground, his orange windbreaker sticking to his clothing underneath. His thoughts from earlier began to rise back up. Did he mess up? Was he too forward? He didn't know and couldn't tell at the time. Adelene still cared he could tell and the way she was handling things as they left the picnic that day showed a few things that he still couldn't get out of his mind. Leon lifted the goggles onto his hair and let out a heavy sigh.

"....Maybe I should have called her. Made sure that things were still alright. I dunno. Why is this so....Different? It's so damn confusing."

Adelene had been trying to clear her head, too, after all the shenanigans that happened in picnic. She's been so flustered and embarrassed and guilty and... she didn't really know what exactly she felt, all she knew was that it was terrible.

Leon hadn't contacted her since then, so she wasn't sure they were okay. She felt... she felt alone. It wasn't such a big deal before but that changed ever since she met him. She's constantly wanted to be with a friend that made her feel secured.

She didn't think it was right, but she wanted to check on Leon. See how he's doing and... see if he was still okay with hanging out with her. As friends. Because honestly, the question he brought up during picnic was enough a shock to fry some circuits in her head. She couldn't say no, but she couldn't say yes either. It was so confusing!

Finally fed up with all her thoughts and self loath, Adelene got up from her bed to get her phone. No, she hasn't left that spot since she woke up that morning. It was raining anyway, and she didn't feel like going to her only two classes today. She's gotten a hang on her phone, thankfully. Quickly she typed a message for Leon. "You okay?" it said, before she sent it to his cell phone number. And then she let herself fall back down to her bed, not really expecting a reply.

Figuring his break was over Leon started to stand up when he felt a vibration in his pocket. Believing it to be his parents, Leon takes it out and sees it wasn't from them. It was from Adelene asking if he was okay. He didn't know how to really respond to it. Physically sure. Mentally? Well he was all there, just really confused and not sure of everything.

At first Leon started to type out "Yeah, how about you?" but quickly deleted the message. He had a better idea. It might take a bit from where he was, but he'd get there. Instead his message was left to sit there as he took off in a full sprint. Why send a message when he could simply do something better?

Nearly out of breath and the rain picking up left Leon wondering how stupid he was for doing this. He wasn't wearing rain gear and was pretty much completely soaked. He had ran all the way to just outside Adelene's dorm. Leon stood there in the rain for a bit before finding a spot underneath a nearby tree and pulls his phone out. It had been a while since the text so she had to be worried or bothered. So Leon dialed her number and waited for her to pick up. Only a single thing came through if she picked up.

"Look outside."

Leon stood out in the rain as a downpour began to happen, staring up at Adelene's window with the same smile on his face, his orange clothing standing out like a soaking sore thumb. He didn't care how stupid he was being, he had to do this to make things feel right.

Or he's going to get hit again for being stupid like this. Either way was fine.

Leon didn't respond. Two minutes, five, ten, and so on... he didn't text Adelene back and that made it more certain to her that Leon didn't want to be around her for a while. How long though? Thinking about it made her anxious, it was the first time she felt her chest this painful for nothing so important. She was sad just drowning in this paranoia. She hugged one pillow and closed her eyes, deciding she'd better fall asleep again. There was nothing she wanted to do, she didn't even want to eat.

She was already falling to slumber when...

There was a ring.

It was her phone, her ringtone being the music of a .50 caliber machine gun firing and reloading that was probably really irritating to other people. It was loud and distinct enough for her to recognize it immediately, even while half asleep, so she quickly got up and grabbed her phone from the nightstand.

Leon was calling.

It was probably going to be amusing to him to see how fast she picked up and put her phone to her ear. "Leon?" A frantic call before the male told her to look outside. She was confused, but she did so anyway, turning to the wall beside her bed and pushing the curtain to the side. She opened the window and looked outside...

Leon was under a tree below her window, and he was soaking wet.

"What the fuck..?" She honestly didn't expect that. She was staring at him from there for a few moments, before she snapped out and flinched and, "What the hell, Leon! Stay there I'll get an umbrella!"

She closed the window and hung up and hurried to get a clean towel and an umbrella. She didn't even realize that she hasn't changed her clothes, and she was still in her a-size-larger-pajama top and her indoor thigh-length shorts when she hurried down the hallways and stairs with her flip-flops and went outside to where Leon was.

The large white towel was on her left forearm when she ran to him and shielded him from the rain with the purple umbrella. Not very surprisingly, she had a worried look on her face.

"Why in hell would you do this? You're soaking wet!" Even the concern and slight panic was obvious in her voice. She then reached up to grab his goggles and then she put the towel over his head and shoulders. She heaved a heavy sigh. "Come inside, let's have some hot choco or something."

So she was worried. When he saw Adelene's face outside her window he immediately saw it go from confusion to worried. Well, he was over doing it a bit by putting his health in danger. Leon put his phone into his pants pocket being thankful they were somewhat dry.

Leon stood there waiting until he saw Adelene come running out with a towel and umbrella in her....Wait was she still in her pajamas? Leon had to admit it was, well, not all that weird seeing her as such. He held his arm over his head as Adelene ran up and put the umbrella over them. He had to admit he wasn't expecting this. Leon gladly let her put the towel on his head and all he did was simply smile.

"Guess I did over do it huh? Well... Yeah let's go have some coco. Glad to see you though Adelene."

Leon smiled at Adelene before shivering slightly. Yeah...This might haunt his stupidity later. Still worth it later.

"Yes. You overdid it."

Adelene regarded him for a moment. And then she sighed, shaking her head once before she held him by a wrist and dragged him back inside.

Her unit was on the third floor. Taking the elevator was a lot easier and faster, so they got there in no time, and Adelene welcomed Leon in by pulling him inside.

For Pete's sake, he was an idiot.

She closed the door behind them. Her unit, despite not being so huge, was organized and well kept, and the only thing unfixed was her unmade bed. Of course, that was because she's been lying there since this morning.

It was a studio-type unit. The single bed was against the wall opposite the door, and it had a small wooden nightstand beside it. She had a small kitchen counter with a small stove and her shelves over it and underneath, a mini-fridge, and a low table over a tatami mat near the spacious center of the room. People would have to sit on the pillows when sitting there. There were two more doors, one to the bathroom and one to the small balcony outside with the sink. And then she had a dark wardrobe, and her other stuff were neatly stacked beside it.

"Dry yourself up." Adelene practically pushed Leon to the bathroom before going through her closet to see what clothes she could lend him for now. Yes, she had some. A couple of minutes later, she went back to him, giving him a blue unisex t-shirt that fit him perfectly. She had it and a few more similar shirts because they're comfy, but she wasn't going to say anything unless Leon asked. She also handed him large unisex black sweatpants, they were too big for her and they looked like she can never wear them, so it was a mystery why she had them.

The bathroom was fairly small, but it had enough room for a shower area, toilet, and a dry area with the sink and the mirror.

"Wear those, no complaining," she said, before leaving him be in the bathroom so she can boil some cocoa and get their drink ready.

Leon let out a nervous laughter as Adelene led him into her room. Leon barely had any time to take a look at anything before being basically shoved into the bathroom. Leon stood there as Adelene walked off and decided to look in the mirror. Leon was actually upset with himself. He was completely soaked from the rain and looked worse for ware.

Letting out a small sigh, Leon pulls off his shirt and looks for a place to set it before settling on hanging it on the shower curtain pole. Leon pulled his pants off and put them next to his shirt and wind breaker. He stood there in his boxers for a moment looking at his clothing before jumping when he heard Adelene come back with a set of clothing for him. He quickly wrapped the towel around his waist and took the clothing from Adelene. Leon dropped the towel as she walked away and pulled the black sweatpants on before pulling the shirt over his head. Looking in the mirror once more Leon took his goggles off and set them on the sink before hanging the towel around his neck and walked out and stood there taking in the room.

"So, how are you Adelene? Sorry that I haven't called or texted you since the picnic. I...Needed to think, ya know?"

Leon didn't really know what else to say. He was sure Adelene needed time to think as well. He did drop a question that couldn't be, well, given an answer so easily. Hell he didn't even know why he asked it then. Doesn't mean those weren't his feelings.

The room was quiet save for the sound of thick liquid pouring into mugs by the small kitchen counter. The smoke from the chocolate drinks wafted to Adelene's face, and she breathed it in, and then Leon finally came out of the bathroom and she turned to him, putting on a small, almost forced smile. It was all she could do after he made her worry so much.

Although it was a little funny to see him wearing her clothes. "So... you okay now?" she asked, before grabbing the two mugs and walking towards the low table. She set them down there and sat down, and then gestured for Leon to do the same.

He asked her how she was doing, and she laughed at it awkwardly. "I'm... okay..." she answered, before grabbing her mug and placing it against her lips. The drink had just boiled, but she knew how to be careful in taking a sip. It was strange having him in this room at the moment, especially while the memories of the picnic persistently reminded themselves to her, but she pushed that feeling away and tried to act casual.

"The picnic was a tragedy... I'm... sorry that I..." She set down her mug and shook her head. For some reason she can't even make herself bring it up. She was sorry she couldn't answer his question. It was a scary topic for her, nerve-wracking, even. "What were you thinking about..? I hope... you're not upset with me." Her fingers were nervously rubbing the mug's surface. It was easy to tell that she wasn't comfortable, she couldn't even look him in the eyes. "I was worried you won't want to hang out with me anymore..."

Leon gave his own smile at Adelene's, though he could tell she was still worried and upset with him over what he just did. Leon walked over to the table and sat down, though finding it a little awkward as he hadn't seen one before. Finding a comfortable way to sit Leon continues to smile.

"I feel fine. We'll know later if I catch a cold or something if I'm going to be punished for my stupidity. But ya know what? Its worth it. Thought it would be better to see you in person rather then just text or call. You can tell more about a person from seeing them over just hearing their voice or reading a text."

Leon took the mug for him and blew on it a little. He took a tiny sip and gently put the mug back down. Ouch too hot still. Well it was just made so of course. While sitting in silence Leon had to wonder why she had such large clothing. Then again he decided it might have just been a simply mistake on her part when shopping. Still he was thankful for it.

"What's there to be sorry for? Things happened and it went a little out of control. I didn't make things any better myself you know."

Leon watched her actions. Yeah, she was still feeling the effects and he felt bad for it. Was one of the few times he felt guilty of being too nice to people. And that he had said something that was difficult to answer. Leon gave a puzzled look at the mention of no longer wanting to hang out.

"I'm not upset with you. Not upset at anyone really. Just had to think about everything and the timing of things. I would like to state regardless of if you answered or not, I'd still hang out with you. Would it be awkward? Of course. Would it be fun? Hell yeah. Not much would change expect for a few small details. You're my best friend and not much could top that."

Leon did his best to sound convincing and cheer Adelene up. There was a few things he wanted to say as well but it wasn't the time for them. Not yet anyway. For the time it all came down to the answer. Leon hadn't came to see her for one either. Just wanted to see how she was doing. Though he knew he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. A crack of thunder told him that much. Leon looked towards the window at the sound. The patter of rain emitted from the window and made Leon wonder about a few things.

"Damn that's quite the storm brewing. Glad I got here before it really hit else I'd be even more soaked. Still thankful you had spare clothing that fit. Be really weird if you dragged me inside and all I could do was sit here in a towel. Then things would be awkward."

Leon hadn't even thought about what he had said till he said it before looking at Adelene and scratching the back of his head, complete with nervous laughter.

A more gentle, more genuine smile of relief crossed Adelene's face when Leon explicitly said he wasn't upset and that he would still hang out with her. She finally got to look at his eyes, too.

She opened her mouth as if she was about to say something, but then that lightning struck and a loud roaring thunder followed, making Adelene flinch. Her grip on her mug was a little tight, thankfully the drink didn't spill or else, her hands would've been burnt.

"S-Strong storm coming..." Suddenly, a mental image of Leon walking around her unit with nothing but boxers and the towel on flashed in front of her. She felt her face start to burn, and she suddenly can't look at Leon again. He just had to say that, huh?

"I... I think big clothes are comfy clothes..." she mumbled, unconsciously playing with the tips of her hair. She cleared her throat, before attempting to distract herself by taking a few more sips of her drink.

It somehow worked, and she put the mug down again eventually. Her thumb was rubbing circles on the handle. Time to try changing the subject. "I'm... uh... I'm glad you're not upset. But maybe we should avoid those situations next time... At least I will. I don't want to be that embarrassed ever again." She sighed. "I felt so uncomfortable, I was starting to feel that urge to... to just shoot my guns. It's a bad thing. I should learn how to control that next time or..." She knew what happened, and she knew what was going to happen if such an incident like the picnic ever surfaces again. She didn't even want to think about it. She wouldn't want to shoot anyone by accident.
