What was even happening? The game continued to be played, but instead of focusing on actually playing she was thinking about how complicated her situation had become. She came onto the cruise with someone she had very complicated feelings for, only for them both to find others to talk to but somehow still be together? She had not even got a clue as to who she was now 'on the boat with,' figuring that Roland was so infatuated by the new girl that he would not even consider Nova before leaving with her.
Even so, Aswan was hard to dislike. She had only really started playing because Rolamd invited her, and he only invited her because Nova had asked if anyone wanted to play. Wow. Her mind was whirring with the weirdness of the situation so much that when Roland returned the ball, she was still imagining things. The ball dropped into the water, splashing her in the face, and she knew that she and Will had lost the game.
"Oops, I guess you two win," she said kindly. Despite her competitive streak, she was not a sore loser, and looked over to Will to say,
"Sorry! My mind was wandering." She had let the team down, and she felt bad about that, but it was only a leisurely game so she doubted anybody would really care.
Addressing all three of the people she stood with in the pool, she said,
"So who wants to hop out of the pool now and just relax? Have a drink, a snack..." She addressed the whole group so that she did not let on about her confusion. She could be spending some more time with Will the handsome stranger, Roland who was technically her date or the whole group if nobody could decide. For all she knew, even she and Aswan could be spending quality time together, although she doubted that despite the fact that she seemed okay.
Hoping somebody else would agree with her suggestion and the who is with who confusion would be cleared up, Nova clung to the volleyball and waited.
