Mason Lockhart

Reckless but physically gifted semi-human from another reality

Name: Mason Lockhart

Pronounced: May - sonn Lock - Hart

Age: 16

Birthday: May 2nd

Status: Student

Grade: 10th

Gender: Male

Species: Semi-human

Orientation: Secretly bisexual, only shows interest in females.

Alignment: Neutral Chaotic

Appearance: Mason is what many call attractive, and he knows it more than anyone else. He looks a year or two older than he really is with his adult-looking body. He takes pride in his tall, solid build made almost exclusively of muscle. Standing at a reasonable height of 6'2", he doesn't tower over his classmates but it is usually enough to give him an advantage on the football field or basketball court. His broad shoulders and chest narrow into a slim waist, boasting enviable abs. His skin is naturally light but has tanned from sunlight, leaving his body a light shade of brown. His hair is golden brown with a certain lustre to it, hanging down to his mid-neck in imperfect waves. He never styles his hair, nor does he have it cut differently. Mason's eyes are a solid light brown pigment. They are large but thin, with thick brown eyebrow a shade or two darker than his hair above them. His nose is slightly on the larger side and the corner of his mouth tends to curl upwards into a smirk.

Clothing choices are never an issue for Mason- he generally just wears similar styles to his friends or whatever is comfortable. His many sporting achievements have given him team uniforms, which he wears out of convenience more than anything else. Otherwise, he can be seen in singlet tops showcasing his biceps, hoodie jackets, basketball-style shorts, track pants and sneakers. He can frequently appear with a backpack, headphones or a ball of some kind. The permanent part of his outfit is always the three golden bands around his neck, each with a single name inscribed into them in cursive. When playing sport, he sometimes covers them up with tape, but they do not come off.

He carries himself with an air of confidence and is rarely seen looking glum. He is visibly very happy with his appearance and the self-assurance radiates off of him. He can often be spotted smiling with his perfect set of teeth.

Personality:

Confident: Mason is very confident, both in himself and in his teammates. He believes that working hard will always pay off and that no matter what, he is great as long as he maintains his looks and sporting ability.

Dumb: Despite his confidence in himself, there is no doubt that Mason is quite stupid. His school grades barely warrant a pass and he usually scrapes through with the emergency help of somebody else. He prioritises sporting and social commitments over education in every circumstance, and nobody really expects much of him after school ends.

Reckless: Similarly, Mason doesn't think before he acts, landing him in trouble more often than not. He doesn't think twice about acting upon an instinct. Ever.

Only listens to some: Most teachers and other 'boring' people hold no authority over Mason. However, he does listen to teammates, coaches and captains he respects. If they're unlikeable then, well, forget it.

Sporty: If there is a sport to compete in, Mason will be up near the best of them. He's more of an all-rounder than anything, showing a superhuman amount of talent in coordination, accuracy and speed, which nobody can really explain.

Cool: Mason is certainly not the type to be awkward, and knows his way around socially. That being said, he doesn't care for trends and the like. He knows how to impress and how to be cool. He does care what others think of him, but would never admit to it.

Extroverted: Mason is one of the social types, making sure he is involved with the 'cool kids' as much as possible. While he's usually not so much the centre of attention, people know who he is because he is always around.

Easygoing: Also not one to be fired up easily, Mason is a nice guy to hang out with. No, he's not going to braid your hair, but if you're cool he might just let you braid his. Hair aside, if you're there to spend some time with, he'll be there with you.

Sexuality issues: Recently, Mason has found himself having feelings for other guys as well as girls. He avoids exploring these emotions as much as possible, but they don't go away. He is afraid of revealing this to anyone.

Likeable: Mason is a likeable person overall, according to most other easygoing people. More uptight personalities would likely find him stupid, but they are the people he tries the hardest to prove himself to.

Likes: Sport, hanging out, chips and gravy, P.E. class, winning.

Dislikes: School, nerds, pumpkin, education, losing.

Fears: People discovering he likes guys.

Powers:

Regeneration: Different to an ordinary healing power, Mason can regenerate energy fifty times faster than a human, ensuring that he almost never needs to rest. He can effortlessly go a week without an hour of sleep, or run a marathon one day and be ready to run another the next. This power extends to muscle tiredness, sleepiness and general exhaustion. It has been known to assist injuries to do with overused muscles but not heal them totally. If he was to be inflicted with a wound, he could not heal it more quickly than usual however.

The power still has its limits, and if Mason goes eight to ten days without sleep he will suffer from fatigue and would need to have hours of rest. Similarly, he cannot run forever, with no clear limits on this due to pace. It would be uncommon for him to be able to run continuously for twelve hours, though. If he managed it, it would exhaust him.

Species Abilities:

Speed: As or almost as fast as an elite athlete, in all lengths, although it is partially training that has led to this.

Strength: Twice that of the average man, but mostly due to training.

Accuracy: Almost perfect for distances up to 100 feet, just slightly less accurate for further distances.

Agility: Gives him an edge over competition.

Weaknesses:

The Curse of the Golden Rings: Although Mason doesn't know it, the rings around his neck represent the people he has killed or been responsible for the death of. If he is to kill, directly or indirectly, another person, a golden ring will appear in his neck inscribed with the name of the one he killed. If there are too many golden rings on his neck, they will strangle him to death. The highest known number of rings on someone's neck is thirteen, although most start to feel discomfort at five and are killed before ten. The rings are each about an index finger width and are put there by extremely powerful magic. No weapon could destroy them and it would require the magic of fifty wizards to get rid of just one ring.

Biography: There are two parts to Mason's story- his own knowledge and the real story, his own being much shorter. To understand more about his species, it is recommended that you read the real story.

Real Story: Mason comes from a completely different reality similar to that of the world. This place was less advanced in terms of technology but more advanced in terms of society. The human equivalent in the reality, which were somewhat similar to people on Earth besides being physically superior and much more energy efficient, valued honour above all. All of the people in that world were a part of a single civilisation, trapped within a five kilometre squared living space.

The people lived simple but enjoyable lives. There were very few criminals, but no policemen. Their people evolved to be civil but fair, and if one was to steal, the rest would force them to exit the area they lived in and 'become an independent.' Nobody wanted that for themselves because life was good where they were and nobody had returned into their town after that. They didn't know what was outside the town walls, nor did most of them want to. Of course, the odd curious one wandered out of the place just to go missing. Nobody but distraught family members followed them out.

Mason was a wild child. From the time he began school by pushing the other kids out of the way to get to his desk, the teachers knew he was trouble. However, they believed he would get better because of how respectable his parents were. They tried to fix his behaviour but he persisted. After a while, they asked his parents if he could be evicted from the town, but the parents had too much power over all of the teachers for that. So he went on, the violent child that he was, until age ten.

This was when things got bad. Mason was getting much stronger and growing up to be one of the strongest boys in the town. He was able to beat all of his classmates in a punch-up. Hell, he could probably beat up his teachers if they tried to interfere. One day, one of his teachers had had enough. He was punching a girl because she wouldn't move for him. The teacher, not particularly strong, stepped in the way and pushed him back. Enraged, Mason pushed the teacher onto the tables where they snapped their neck and died instantly. Shocked, the girl slapped him in the face. He proceeded to kill her too, this time with scissors. Finally, his only friend, a strong boy, approached him to put him in his place. Backed up by the class, they tried to trap Mason. In the end, the class won, but not before the friend lost his life too. The rest of the class dragged the struggling boy out.

Soon enough, he whole school knew about what had happened. They could see the three golden rings, each etched with a name, appear around his neck. They symbolised each person he had killed. Horrified, a large group of people carted him out of the school and to the walls, which they threw him over. The people never saw him again. What lay outside the town walls was actually a portal to Earth. It was unknown why it was there but this means that somewhere upon the Earth must be a portal to return.

When Mason arrived on Earth, he was unconscious for a minute. His semi-human appearance permanently transformed into a human one for unknown reasons and he was in a park. He instantly became less violent, forgetting that he was in the first place.

His Memories: A ten-year-old Mason woke up on the grass of a park. He looked around. Big open space, no people, broad daylight. Feeling his neck, he noticed there were three golden bands around it. He pushed himself up off the ground and realised he didn't remember who he was. Standing there for a moment, he actually didn't know what to do with himself. His mind was absolutely blank despite knowing how to walk and do basic things.

So, he walked. He was hungry, so he walked in one direction for hours. It was then he saw people. People standing there, on a hard court. Running around and bouncing a ball. It occurred to him that he too could bounce a ball. The little boy stood there and watched them closely. They wouldn't take any notice of him, they were too old to do so. When the evening came, the group left, forgetting their ball.

Nervously, Mason crept onto the court and mimicked the group's actions. He bounced the ball, then he stopped and threw it at the ring. It went in, even though he hadn't remembered being able to do that. It was only ten minutes that he played with the ball for, but in that time he realised he could actually do most of the things the group was doing.

The sun was still setting when the guy came back for his ball and saw Mason playing with it. Mason was yelled at to give it back and so he just passed it to him. Surprised there was no fight, the older guy asked where he was from and who his family was but Mason replied that he didn't know anything. The older guy found it strange when he didn't even know his own name. So after a while, he was invited back to stay at his place.

The police were contacted but nobody in town seemed to know who Mason was. The police, lazy as they were, told him that he'd be going to an adoption centre if nobody claimed him. So the guy, whose name turned out to be Caelan, claimed him as his brother. It was then that he adopted the name Mason Lockhart and became unofficially part of that family.

As he grew up, Caelan introduced him to a multitude of sports, and helped him out like a good brother. He excelled in every sport he tried, while only receiving grades that just got him through each year at school. He became popular by default from sporting achievements and his popular brother and school life was great for him. The only thing of question were the rings around his neck. He just told everyone it was to do with religion and brushed off the subject. In truth, he had no idea why they were there and despite endless attempts to remove them, they remained undamaged.

He assumed he was human, but when a scout from a school called Starlight Academy knocked on their door, he was thrown into confusion once more. They obviously scented his presence as not human and invited him to attend their school. With that, he said goodbye to his family and went to become a student at a new school. He always wondered whether Caelan and his mother knew who he was, or at least what he was, but assumed they hadn't because he was never told.

The scout told him he was definitely not human, which Mason recieved as 'you are a monster.' He is curious but reluctant to know anymore about this.
