Freyja Mortii
The strong minded Valkyrie daughter of Professor Mortii
Name: Freyja Mortii
Pronounced: Fray - ah Mor - tee
Age: Physically 19
Birthday: August 12
Status: Student
Grade: College Freshman
Major: Magical Studies
Gender: Female
Species: Valkyrie
Orientation: Pansexual Demiromantic
Alignment: Good Lawful
Appearance: Freyja is 6'0" tall but very lean. Muscle definition is obvious but not bulky and she looks strong but feminine. Her curves are limited but ultimately visible, with small breasts and thin hips. A pale tone contrasting with her hair, Freyja's skin is smooth, unblemished and untouched by makeup. As much as she hates to admit it, Freyja has quite a feminine face, with eyes the color of dark chocolate, a small, pointy nose, thin eyebrows and light-coloured, thin lips. Her cheekbones are visible but not prominent. Her hair is jet black and very straight, the front of her hair reaching to her mid-chest and the back falling to her waist. A thin neck connects her head to her slender frame. The clothing she prefers to wear is generally black close-fitting garments which enable movement and are often militant or uniform-styled. As a Valkyrie, Freyja bears a large pair of wings on her back. She is the only Valkyrie to have steel wings.
Personality:
Militant: Freyja strongly believes in her values and will not only stick to them, but fight for them. If you do not respect her core values, it's likely she will become your immediate enemy.
Strong: There is nothing weak about Freyja. Her personality goes hand in hand with her combative abilities in that it is strong. She will bow down to nobody, not even her father, and will be fierce in her opinions. She is tough inside and out, and she 'doesn't do feelings.'
Protective: She may display tough love, but in truth Freyja just wants her sister, father and any adoptee she actually respects to stay safe. If somebody wishes to get to her family, they would have to face her first. And that's no easy task.
Respects rivals more than friends: In a strange kind of way, Freyja respects those who challenge her over those who try to be nice to her. Playing nice will only get you so far, most likely to the point when she gets sick of you and decides you are spineless or below her. Those who challenge her she considers equals.
Fearless: At least she would never admit her fears. She wouldn't admit her insecurities, dramas or most other personal things either. Not to anyone she doesn't know very well. And by very well she means virtually family.
Overachiever: Freyja excels in most there is to excel at. Academics and any form of education- she's working beyond class expectations. Strategy and logic- she can be outwitted by her father alone. Any physical challenge whatsoever- she will smash it. She's also secretly artistically talented and has created many praiseworthy masterpieces she either hides or burns, so nobody will find them.
Overcompetitive: If there is a challenge to be won, Freyja will ensure she wins it. She never cheats, though, and if she loses she will be angry. Her greatest rivals are usually those closest to her though, and they either deal with her competitive streak well or have one of their own.
Semi-closed off: While Freyja relishes challenges, she isn't actively seeking out new experiences. Her perception of the world around her is negative, and nobody would be able to change that right away. While not entirely against new things, she doesn't particularly want to go eat at that new cafe in town or see the exhibition at the art gallery. At least, she says she doesn't.
Conscientious: Organised and dutiful, Freyja always wants to do what is right. She is very much righteous and focused on the big picture. She does not back away from hard work or holding her core values true.
Ambivert: Freyja is not a social person. She doesn't see the point in small talk. In fact, she much prefers her own company. This sounds a lot like an introvert, although when she is around people, she is very much an extrovert. She can be loud, assertive or aggressive, she can pretend to be entertained by pointless gossip and she is certainly not shy. People just happen to annoy her.
Disagreeable: Freyja will not be passive towards anyone. She will not 'go with the flow.' If her opinions differ from someone else's, she will challenge them. Simple as that.
Natural leader: Whatever the situation, Freyja prefers to take charge. She just doesn't like being told what to do. Her leadership role of the Valkyries is what she uses to both assert her power and do some good. She may not be the most bubbly hero ever, but she gets the job done.
Powers:
Wings:
Flight (main power): With her steel wings, Freyja can fly faster and more efficiently than most of the other Valkyries. She can fly as fast as a car on a highway for twenty to thirty seconds at absolute most before she needs to rest. This is the maximum she can do in prime condition, and she would need to sit down to recover from it. Her ability at any given time depends on her energy, the level of training her wings have undergone recently, her mindset/willpower at the time, her clothing and of course external conditions such as wind and rain. The maximum is based on flying with the wind and otherwise clear skies with full energy, having lightly stretched out and warmed up her wings, having last trained three days before and in peak condition, having a great amount of willpower (e.g. Life and death situation), and wearing tight-fitting, streamlined clothing. On an average day, she would be able to go at speeds 10mph less than that for around 15 seconds. Of course, no minimum speed would be possible to measure because Freyja would not be able to fly at all in a hurricane/tornado.
Wing Invisibility (minor power): To prevent humans exposing her identity, Freyja is able to make her wings disappear. Not only that, but they would not be able to be felt if one was to touch her back. This happens purely because of magic, and the process of making them disappear and reappear is similar to shapeshifting, only easier due to such a small part of the body changing. The process is painless, virtually instant and requires only a thought. Once they have disappeared/reappeared, no focus is required to keep them that way and no time limit is set as to how long they can stay that way.
Healing:
Healing of self: Freyja automatically heals any non-fatal wounds she receives. She will still feel the pain of the wound until it heals, no matter the severity. Minor wounds (cuts, burns, grazes, bruises, etc. Basically everyday injuries) take just a couple of seconds to completely heal over. Moderate injuries (muscle tears, deep cuts, bone fractures, etc. Things that would require weeks of relative soreness to heal or that would require a doctor's help) take about a minute. Severe wounds and injuries (complete breaks in large bones, some severed limbs, brain damage, paralysis, etc.) require ten minutes to fully heal over. With severed limbs, the limb must be in the relative area (500 foot radius in open spaces, 250 in spaces interrupted by objects and walls. This would usually be no problem unless a fight took place high in the air or someone ran away with the limb.) All wounds and injuries will be present and she will experience all effects of them until healed. This includes death- if a severed limb, for example, becomes fatal before it has time to heal, Freyja will die. However, the wound will gradually heal over as time goes on, so usually wounds are healed to the point of not being fatal before they get the chance to be. Staying calm, still and focused entirely on the injury speeds up the process, while continuing to fight, move or remain distracted slows it down. Magic spells and curses cannot be healed. Diseases, sicknesses and effects of ageing are all automatically combatted while they are very new, hence why she does not suffer from any of it.
Semi-Immortality (side-effect): This is also why she will not grow old or die of anything but an almost instantly fatal wound or magic-induced death, resulting in almost-immortality. Freyja had a childhood however, and was not born into her prime. Once she reaches her combative, mental and physical prime (sometime in her twenties) she will stop ageing. If Freyja is killed, her spirit lives on and returns to Valhalla to be reborn.
Healing of others: While a Valkyrie's healing powers towards others have become limited over time, Freyja can still heal the injured with full concentration at a ten times slower rate. That is, minor wounds would take around twenty seconds, worse ones would take ten minutes and particularly severe injuries would require an hour and forty minutes of unbroken concentration to heal. She has been trained in this, but in danger, this would be a close to impossible situation. At least a partial heal of a wound may also prolong the survival of the wounded enough so that they may receive treatment. With great knowledge of medicines and remedies, Freyja has been trained close to perfection at this. She cannot heal the magic induced wounds, curses, ageing or diseases of another, and struggles most with internal wounds and muscle tears. To heal another, she must place both hands over their patient's wound (one is sufficient for minor wounds) and basically just concentrate really hard. Concentrate on the patient getting better and the wounds healing over. The visualisation of the healing wound must be done slowly and cautiously so there is no risk of failure, broken concentration or needing to start again. She may communicate while healing, though it is not recommended for anyone but experts. She cannot heal magic-induced wounds, curses, diseases sickness or ageing in others. She also cannot heal multiple people at once. The process can be sped up with full cooperation by the patient, or at least calmness. A distressed patient who moves often is the worst kind to treat.
Species Abilities:
Enhanced athleticism: Super strong, quite fast, very agile and with increased stamina, the Valkyrie are given a boost in athleticism as well as intensive training to make them powerful warriors.
Weaknesses:
Dark Magic (major): Using Dark Magic on Freyja will damage her more than other magic.
Magic and curses in general (minor): Actually, Freyja is vulnerable to magic in all its forms.
Her family: Though her family are far from weak themselves, any chance of her family being in danger will send Freyja running recklessly into possible danger. It's not that she doesn't think they can take care of themselves- they can definitely do that- it's just the thought of anything happening to those she is closest to that sends her out of control.
Biography
Freyja Mortii was born in Valhalla, the great Hall of heroes and warriors, and it was also the training place of the Valkyries. Freyja was born with a brave, fighting spirit, destined to become a warrior with great power to her name.
From the first time she stretched out her little wings, it was obvious something was different about the little girl. Her wings, a weak spot for other Valkyries, were made of hard steel. Her mother, the spirit that gave birth to the Valkyries, thought it was strange but loved Freyja none the less.
She grew up a strong-minded child who formed her own opinions early, often bossing around the other Valkyrie children and telling them what was 'right.' She was quite happy in childhood, although her focus and determination from such a young age drew much praise from the mother of Valkyries.
She had seen many children like this before, who grew up to become powerful Valkyries, unfazed by whatever was happening around them. She silently watched Freyja with curiosity as she went about her life, paying attention in her training and then going out to play as the leader of the other children, something she established very early. Most other children hated her bossiness, but she did make one friend.
Her friend's name was Hilda, and her personality was almost opposite to that of Freyja. She was very much cooperative, easy to get along with and, more importantly, easy for Freyja to boss around. Their friendship was not stable, and it was no surprise that at nine years of age Hilda abandoned Freyja for another friend.
It happened slowly, starting as Hilda picking different partners in fighting training, and grew to drastic crimes such as not even talking to her at lunchtime. When confronted about it, Hilda brushed the topic off and told her she wanted to hang out with a big group of friends. Freyja was angry about this, and didn't socialise with the group. Instead, she isolated herself from the rest of the Valkyries. Still, the leader watched her silently and inquisitively. It was not often a child did this.
Freyja chose her training over any social event for the rest of her time at Valhalla, growing into arguably the best Valkyrie-in-training there was at the time. It was years later, at 13 years of age, that their mother called her and Hilda together, instructing them, as two of the most precocious students in Valhalla, that they were ready to become fully-fledged Valkyries. She told them she was beginning to fade away, that the one who would inherit Valhalla was awakening. The two of them would go to him and be his support. Obviously neither of them were too happy about that.
Staying back to argue the point, Freyja was sat down by her mother. She told her that she was to inherit the position of Valkyrie leader once she turned 18. This satisfied her somewhat. The next day, Freyja and Hilda were forced to train together and show team strategy. They started off very reluctantly, Freyja even refusing to participate at first. Eventually, though, their mother's choices were obviously very clever. The two quickly learnt to work as a team, their differences balancing each other out.
The time came, and her mother said that the Demigod who would ascend to become master of Valhalla had finally awakened. He was calling for his first angels, his Valkyries. She arrived in his home with Hilda. Freyja took an instant disliking to him. He was to be her father now? She would rather be alone. And with Hilda? The girl who betrayed her as a nine year old? She only persevered in hope that she would become leader at 18.
Slowly but surely, Freyja grew to... Like Hilda, her sister. Sort of. She respected her at the very least. Her father's high expectations pushed her limits, and as much as she hated to admit it, she grew to love him.
When she became leader of the Valkyries, Freyja used her leadership much more wisely than she did as a child. She came with her family to Manta Carlos because her father got a job there at the Academy. She now participates in the college, majoring in pre-med and minoring in Magic Studies. She plans to graduate and eventually become a healer as well as a warrior.
