Name: Deana Sinclair
Pronounced: Dee - ann - ah Sin - clare
Nicknames: Dee
Age: 44
Gender: Female
Species: Demon
Birthday: 2 February
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: Retired Demon, Police Officer
Appearance: Deana is, for the most part, normal in appearance. She possesses two forms, but prefers to use her human one for almost everything nowadays.
Human Form: Deana is a short, slight woman surprisingly strong for her size. Her age has given her wrinkles and an overall motherly appearance but it has not taken away from her muscle definition in her legs and arms. Her stomach is no longer flat due to childbirth yet her waist and hips are small and thin. She has a sleek appearance, being small-breasted and carrying very little excess fat. Her skin is a light color, freckled on her legs, arms and shoulders and wrinkled in places on her face. Her hair is jet black, straight and reaching an inch past the bottom of her neck. A fringe is present, which comes down to just above her eyebrows. It is thinner than the rest of her hair, which isn't particularly thick nor thin. Her eyes are a vivid shade of red, which she conceals with sunglasses when around humans. Other items of clothing she frequently wears are her police uniform, knee-length jeans, button-up blouses and leather sandals.
Demon Form: In her Demon form, Deana looks ageless. Her vibrant red complexion is unblemished and perpetually smooth. Her hair turns loses its fringe, growing longer, thicker and more roughly cut. Her muscle remains, although the body perfects itself in removing excess fat and touching up flaws with muscle. Cream-colored horns grow atop her head and her fingernails turn into sharpened claws. A thin red tail with a point on its tip sprouts on her lower back, and short fangs grow in her mouth. Her eyes stay the same color. In this form, she will wear tighter, black clothes.
Personality:
Confident: Deana is confident in both her words and her actions. Her years of experience as a a Demon and a Police Officer has shaped her into an assertive woman who knows what she is doing.
Decisive: Her family's relative passivity results in Deana making most decisions. Luckily, she is good at it and her thought-out choices usually benefit everyone. She is also often valued at work for this trait.
Authoritative: Deana prefers to be in charge. She is respectful of those superior to her but often disagrees with their opinions, especially if they are not fair or made by those who are power-hungry, biased or not open-minded.
Educated: Although she isn't extremely book-smart, Deana knows what she needs to and is very up to date on news and current events. This includes local and global issues and gossip around the town.
Extroverted: She is sociable and doesn't mind a chat, sometimes. She likes to build a circle of similar friends who can have a laugh with her so she can relax after a hard day at work.
Just: Deana believes strongly in justice, having put her Demon past behind her. That being said, her equality has its limits when it comes to people's histories and is not trustful in the least.
Bad cop: Deana is very much the 'bad cop,' having little time for criminals and preferring to get straight to the point with no chance for them to weasel their way out of trouble.
Respectful: That being said, those who deserve and have earned Deana's respect will be rewarded. She treats everyone with respect, but she really shows it and means it with family and friends.
Stubborn: She will rarely admit what she does is wrong, and she is rarely wrong. She secretly fears humiliation and will try to conceal or awkwardly laugh off mistakes.
Loving: A loving mother, wife and friend, those who have earned Deana's respect also earn her love and generosity. It's best to get on her good side.
DEMON FORM: In her Demon Form, Deana becomes noticeably more malevolent, healthy, charismatic and calm.
Powers: Deana's powers are the same as the rest of her family's. They come from a group of Demons whose jobs were to infiltrate the Earth and feed on the weak. Therefore, their powers revolve around this need.
Power Sapping: Deana can sap power from others easily, which essentially fuels her. The most efficient way of using this power is killing someone, which fuels her for up to two weeks. Killing someone other than a Demon with a weapon/her claws, with poison/other indirect means or by completely draining them of energy successfully transfers their energy into her. The general rule is that if she is the reason someone is dead, she inherits all of their energy. If the killing was a joint effort, she will only receive the energy if she delivers the lethal blow or is the one who sets the trap which kills them. If it is undetermined who is the rightful killer of someone by nature itself, she will earn an even share of the power, even if the others involved with the murder are not Demons themselves. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, so Deana gets more energy out of killing a powerful person than an exhausted one.
Another way Deana may sap energy from someone is through partial means, when she takes a share of a person's energy without killing them. A small share of energy, one that would give her half a day's boost, would result in a tingling sensation from the victim. It would not be unpleasant, but rather a feeling of weakness and vulnerability. A moderate share of energy would exhaust the victim, making them feel sleepy or even send them to sleep. This would fuel her for one or two days. A larger share of energy would instantly knock an average human out, sending them into an unconscious state for varied lengths of time. This would fuel her from three days to a week depending on the victim. In order to power sap, Deat a must take both hands of a person and look them straight in the eyes. Blinking has no effect on the process, nor does sleep, as people are weaker then and easier to drain. However, closed eyes when awake hinders or even prevents the process taking place. Deat a must then focus on transferring the power. The process is very much a mental one.
She does not have to be in Demon Form to do this, although it is much easier this way due to the mental block her human form creates. Killing people is also much easier, mentally and physically, in Demon Form. Exhaustion to the point of death usually takes close to a month for a Demon, but a kill every one or two weels, a large drain a couple of times a week, at least a few half drains per week, two small drains per day or a cup of coffee each day makes her stay awake and ultimately, alive.
Power Giving: In order to pay taxes, Deana's group of Demons must transfer energy to their leader weekly. To do this, the leader and the Demon must make a link for energy to transfer through. The process is the same as taking energy, except Deana must also focus so that a Demon to Demon energy transfer may take place. This power is also used to fuel young children who haven't mastered the skill of power sapping, at around seven years of age. Power Giving is not exclusive to Demons. Deana can do the same process and transfer energy to a human or other creature, as long as they allow it.
Species Abilities:
Shifting: Deana can easily and painlessly switch between her two forms by just concentrating in seconds. No dramatic processes occur, her bone structure stays the same but her body perfects itself and a few features grow or change color.
Increased Fitness: With the speed and strength of an Olympic athlete, Deana's boost in athleticism is exclusive to her Demon Form.
Emotion Blockers: In her Demon Form, Deana can block her emotions, allowing her to almost heartlessly kill someone.
Fireproof: Deana is immune to fire-based magic and fire itself.
Weaknesses:
Water: While not harmed by water itself, Deana is very sensitive to water-based magic.
Summoning: If a Witch, Wizard or any other spellcasting species attempts to summon her, she will be summoned.
Nature Magic: Demons use 'Dark Magic,' which goes against the forces of nature. Any creature wielding Natural Magic would be especially dangerous to Deana.
Angels: A Demon's polar opposite, Angels can be dangerous to them. This is balanced by the fact that they are also very dangerous to Angels.
Biography: Deana Sinclair was born forty-four years ago in an oven-like city underneath the Earth's surface known to most as 'Hell,' and 'The Underworld' to some. Her family were some of the hardest working Demons in the city and so held in high regard by the leader, a Demon whose face was forever concealed by a wide-brimmed black top hat which cast shadows over their face. Consequently, her family was considered quite respectable in the Demonic world.
Her childhood was full and joyful. She had siblings to play with as well as quite the friendship circle. She wasn't particularly excited to kill people, knowing from a very young age that it was inhumane and unfair. Nevertheless, she grew older and that was exactly what she started doing.
Once she hit age seven, Deana learnt to sap power from others, and went into the human world for short periods of time, sapping just small amounts of power from humans. Eventually she started to attend a human school so she could isolate students and sap their energy. She secretly never killed anyone or made them unconscious. Deana worked extra hard to only take very small amounts of power from everyone.
When she grew up and reached age 20, she met the man who would go on to become her husband. He was 26 at the time, but they fell in love and went on to get married and have a child. The baby boy's name was Alex, and they loved him with alł their hearts. After a year had passed, the leader sent them a note. Alex had been selected as that year's sacrifice to the leader himself.
In Deana's Hell, the leader chose one young child to be sacrificed every year as a tradition. Each time this ritual was performed, the leader became more powerful, and so did the city. Usually, the parents of the child are very honoured to have their child selected, as it meant they were becoming part of the immortal leader's spirit. Andre and his wife Deana were not pleased. They wanted their child alive and well, so they planned to run away and live as humans.
Their plan played out successfully, with the two of them smuggling Alex into the human world. Or so they thought. After just a week of this, the day of the sacrifice, the leader sent his best Demons out to find the runaway family. They were quickly tracked down with the help of a Summoning Spell, and while they attempted to protect Alex with their lives, it wasn't enough and the Demons sneakily took Alex from them and killed him in front of their pleading eyes.
Of course, the leader was not happy his sacrifice had been wasted and unleashed his anger on his Demons, allowing Andre and Deana to escape unscathed.
The two of them began normal human lives in the city, discovering that coffee could be a weaker substitute for energy sapping. They still took on Demon Form occasionally, but retired from being full-time Demons. Andre completed educational courses and went on to become a fully qualified chiropractor. Deana became a police officer and fought crime.
When the two of them felt they were ready, they had a second child named Erinella. She was enough for them and they raised her with just memories of their demonic past.
When their child turned twelve, a mysterious person arrived at their door. They claimed to be a scout for a prestigious school called Starlight Academy, and offered an invitation to Erinella. After finding out that they were welcomed too, the family decided to move there. They have never again been contacted from their old leader, strangely enough, and they believe they have got away with their escape. Deana is ready to join the Manta Carlos Police and make her mark on the job.
