Adelene cringed. Hearing that Lochlann was probably having a panic attack tore her decisions apart, because she didn't want him to have another shot of the accursed sedative, but she didn't know what else to do to calm Lochlann down. Mostly because she wasn't calm either.

"Lochlann... You don't understand me... I can't give you more sedatives, you don't know how scared I was when you were sleeping and I had to constantly listen if your heart was still beating..." She was afraid her words were useless. Lochlann looked like he wasn't really grasping anything, which was enough proof for Addy that he's had too much.

"Lochlann please, just calm down, you don't need sedatives, just... just clear your head please... "

"Lochlann... You don't understand me... I can't give you more sedatives, you don't know how scared I was when you were sleeping and I had to constantly listen if your heart was still beating..."

He blinked at her slowly, and then a small smile made it's way onto his face. He was really honestly touched. He was just really hurting, too.

'You...you did that for me?" he asked. He started and stopped his next sentence a lot. "You're sweet, angel, but I'm..."

He grabbed onto the blankets, his fingers turning white while he grasped them. He sat up again suddenly, pulling his head down low, trying anything to get his breathing back under control.

"Lochlann please, just calm down, you don't need sedatives, just... just clear your head please... "

"I...I can't," he said, and though he was keeping his voice even, there was an undisguised note of panic in there.

Nothing was working. Christ. His chest hurt, and his mouth felt thick and cottony, like he'd drank too much.

"Addy please I'm not...I'm not doing okay right now," he gasped. He didn't realize he had one of his hands pressed to his heart, which was moving far too slowly for the level of dizziness rushing through his head. He was starting to sweat. "I need that' in that drawer."

He made another feeble attempt at standing and this time managed to make it a few more steps before he collapsed again. He was not learning from his mistakes.

Seeing Lochlann like this wasn't good for Adelene. She herself was starting to panic, especially when he started to look like he was running out of breath.

Dammit.

She went past him as he tried to walk to the drawer only to fall again, grabbing the handle on the drawer and pulling it with rather too much force. She grabbed the needle and the sedative and quickly--

Horse tranquilizers?

Adelene had grabbed the bottle and looked at the label. It was... so shocking, she wasn't able to move for a few seconds. Her wide eyes were glued on those words.

"Why the hell are you using this...?"

She gave Lochlann another confused look. But he really seemed like he needed it, she had no choice.

She filled the syringe and put it on top of the drawer, before pulling Lochlann back to his bed, again.

"Stay put, Lochlann. I'm giving it to you, okay? Here." She grabbed the syringe. She was going to give it to him but she was worried he won't be able to do it right if he was so out of it. "I'm still not so sure about this... Let me... assist you at least."

"Why the hell are you using this...?"

"It's...stronger," he gasped. He was on his hands and knees, and eventually even that gave out and he was just lying on the floor. He had a sinking feeling that this was not a panic attack, but he didn't know how to tell her this.

Suddenly, he was back in his bed. God damn this girl must be strong. If he could remember this in the morning, he'd have to do something really nice to her.

She was holding the syringe and Lochlann's eyes widened, but he could barely focus on her. His heart wouldn't race no matter how panicked he got, and his chest was killing him. He was torn between the pure need for what was in that syringe and also the sheer, uncontrollable fear of, well, not having control of that needle.

"Stay put, Lochlann. I'm giving it to you, okay? Here.". "I'm still not so sure about this... Let me... assist you at least."

"Nononnonnonono," Lochlann pleaded. "I can...I can do it. Don't like, when other people do it. Too much, like hospital."

He was gasping in between each word. If she put her hand on his chest, Lochlann was afraid she'd drop the needle and call the hospital. Part of him thought that, maybe, he needed to go.

He refused to harbor that thought.

"I'm so sorry Addy, I'm just," he gripped the sheets again, tilting his head back. His skin was flushed and feverish. "not good. i'm bad. i'm really, really bad. I just want to sleep this off. I'm so sorry."

A helpless whimper escaped her. She wasn't letting go of the syringe, but at least she was trying to hand it to Lochlann at the same time.

She was so torn because she knew Lochlann's heart could stop with this. And she was adding that to the list of why Lochlann scared her so much. Thinking about it was enough to make her start getting tears in her eyes again. And her vision was quickly becoming blurry.

"Lochlann please stay still and calm down... How can you even do it if you're so... drugged..? Ngh, I can't believe I'm in this situation..."

She was trying her best not to freak out but...

...death...

She can't help it. She was afraid Lochlann was going to kill himself. But she couldn't run away either, because she didn't want to leave Lochlann alone in this state. No matter what, she wasn't going to run away again.

Instead, she fell to the floor, her knees giving up on her. Her hand with the syringe was on Lochlann's lap, while her other arm became a makeshift pillow on the edge of the bed, as she just... started sobbing. Crying. Her shoulders shaking.

Why did they both have to be such a wreck? If only Adelene were calm, she would've called a doctor over moments ago. But all she could think of was that Lochlann might die if she leaves him for even just one second.

"Lochlann please stay still and calm down... How can you even do it if you're so... drugged..? Ngh, I can't believe I'm in this situation..."

He tried to apologize but he couldn't get any sound out of his throat. Every one of his movements seemed to take ten years. Part of him realized that she was crying and that hurt him worst than the burning, aching feeling in his chest.

"I'm so sorry," he managed, but it was slurred to the point where it was almost indecipherable.

He wanted to tell her that he did this for her, so he wouldn't find himself at her place at night, during the rain, begging her for him to come watch the storm clouds along the lake with him. He'd dreamt about drowning her twice now, and he was afraid that one more time is all it'd take for his dreams to come true. He wanted nothing more than to never dream again.

He hated that he was doing this to her.

He hated that he couldn't take her in his arms and stroke her hair and hold her and tell her that everything would be okay. He felt the exact opposite of okay. Lochlann fumbled in the bed next to him. He found his borrowed cell phone and it took every ounce of everything he had left in him. He pried Addy's fingers off the syringe and replaced it with the phone.

He said the one word that was the closest thing to a death sentence he had: "Call."

Then he jammed the needle into his arm again. His body collapsed in on itself and he went limp in the bed, his other hand briefly grazing her own. He'd stopped breathing even before he finished pushing down the end

Adelene's sobs were like hiccups, but her tears were true tears and they were getting her arm soaked.

She didn't even fight back when Lochlann took the syringe from her, she only glanced up and gave the phone another confused stare. "Call?"

Call what? Oh... the hospital...

Her eyes widened as she somehow got some sense back to her. Lochlann was afraid of doctors and anything related to the hospital but Adelene knew they were still the best help she can get. Of course!

She gripped the phone more securely and pushed herself up, just in time to witness Lochlann strike himself with the needle and fall back to the bed unconscious. Adelene gasped, quickly following him and going on top of him to check his breath and heartbeat.

HE WASN'T BREATHING.

SHE CAN'T HEAR HIS HEARTBEAT.

Adelene pushed herself up. Her breath was getting quicker, mixed with a panicked noise that resembled another whimper, only it also sounded like a stifled cry. A stifled scream. She was going to freak out again, but she had to keep it together this time.

She sat up, bringing the phone to a chest level before dialing the hospital's number. And then she pressed it against her ear, and as she waited for the other line to pick up, she began wiping the tears on her face, even though they just kept flowing.

It didn't take too long, but for Adelene, it felt like it was too late.

Quickly, desperately, she fought her cries so she can ask for help and tell them where Lochlann's place was.

"Please... come over fast... H-His heartbeat... I ca...nt... h-h-hear..." The last words were almost incomprehensible, because she was starting to sob again and whimper and gasp for air.

Lochlann had never died before.

He didn't think that's what was happening now, only that he was having a very long, very unpleasant dream where everything hurt and that Addy was crying and he couldn't do anything to help her.

Eventually, even that faded into the dull, heavy darkness. If before the darkness was comfortable, this one was suffocating. It pressed in on him, clawing at his throat, pushing at his chest, making every attempt to claw it' way down his throat.

Outside of the darkness, Lochlann's body was still limp before Adelene. He'd finally completely relaxed, like this was the first good sleep he'd had in a long time.

Waking up was going to be hell.

He'd been in the hospital before and he thought that was bad, but he'd never had his stomach pumped. He'd probably have to be restrained again because he wouldn't stop fighting them. The IV's stressed him out. He didn't want to sit through another suicide watch. He wasn't trying to kill himself. He hated that he'd done this to himself, but worse--he hated that he'd done it to Addy.

The EMT's would ask Addy a lot of questions when they arrived and saw the syrninge still in his hand--what did he take, how long ago, describe any symptoms, the normal sort of questions.

He still wanted to kiss her.

That was the thought on his mind. He seemed to fight them every step of the way as they tried to get his heart beating again. When the first flickerings of life started to pass through him, he managed to say the same three words over and over again.

"I'm sorry, Addy, I'm sorry, Addy, I'm--"

One of the EMT's would be speaking to Addy seriously, asking her if she planned on coming with them.

The last thing Lochlann remembered before passing out again was grabbing her hand.

Adelene had left him to their care for now. Because they looked like they could save him, while she couldn't. She was sitting on the floor nearby, and then they started asking her questions. So many questions, Adelene felt suffocated. So many questions, they made the scenes replay in her head, which was horrible.

He was already taking one shot when she arrived. He was trying to fall asleep, and he did and she lied down beside him. She got up, waking him up, then he started having panic attacks and she didn't know what else she could do to help him so she let him take one more. Adelene managed to tell the strangers the important parts.

They managed to get his heartbeat back and wake him up, and Adelene scrambled up to his side, hearing him say three words repeatedly before he passed out again. He was holding her hand, and Adelene didn't pull away.

Instead she brought it up to her lips and kissed Lochlann's hand, before turning to the EMT. They were going to take him, and if that's how it was, Adelene insisted she'd go with them. She didn't want anyone but her to be around Lochlann when he wakes up. She knew he'd freak out, but that's why they would have to be alone. She insisted on it.
