Leon had been sitting at home eating lunch when he got a call. Leon's attitude had been normal up until he heard words he never thought he would ever hear. He had dropped the phone and was already out the door in such a rush that even his parents were afraid. Robin had picked up the phone to ask who it was and what happened only for her own eyes to widen as she stared at her husband and mouthed four simple words that spoke volumes as to why Leon was in such a rush he hadn't even taken his jogging gear with him.

Adelene's in the hospital.

Leon was in full sprint and did not give a damn about the weather. Nothing mattered at that point expect getting to the hospital as fast as he could. A normal drive would have been about 10 minutes from his home. A jog would have taken about twenty. It took Leon eight at the speed he was running, combined with using his wind blade to propel himself forward faster at one point. He ran to the counter and asked for Adelene Cross's room. Leon was directed to the room and he ran there. More like really fast walked to avoid causing any harm to anyone else at the hospital.

Leon came to the door and stood there catching his breath. How? Why? What the hell happened? Who hurt her? Leon's mind was filled with questions and rage at the same time. Very few things pissed off Leon. Harming family was up there. And even though she was just his girlfriend, Adelene was family.

Leon calmed himself down enough to walk into the room, but his face was clearly worried when he looked over at Adelene.

"....Adelene....Are yo-You're in the hospital of course you're not alright what was I thinking. So stupid."

@Trahnael It has begun.

Adelene was taken to the hospital late the previous night. Her torso was all gray and purple with bruises, her left thigh cut open and bleeding, and her right arm injured with a huge bite mark on it.

Of course, the hospital staff and doctors have already taken care of those. Her open wounds have been treated and stitched, and as for her bruises, there were no broken bones inside so she only had to stay still in bed to keep them from getting worse. It wasn't like she had a choice though. She lost so much blood, and was therefore connected to a blood bag through a small tube. And her struggle in the water drained her energy, especially since she actually did drown before Dr. Hart was able to rescue her from the water.

Addy was awake, wide awake, and the happenings during the previous night kept flashing before her eyes, and staring at the ceiling was like staring at a screen showing her all those traumatic experiences. Her eyes were blank and teary. What pained her the most was the fact that Lochlann tried to drown her anyway, and she tried to shoot him.

She still didn't believe he was a monster, but she was so traumatized with the feeling of water in her lungs and around her body that she was starting to forget that.

She turned to the door slowly when she felt someone's presence. And then suddenly, her dull exhausted eyes widened, and the tears which have formed in them began to roll down her cheeks as she tried to push herself up to sit.

"Leon..!" she called, she wanted someone to hold on to and thank goodness she was finally no longer alone. But she fell back down even before she could sit, and a small grunt escaped her lips as she felt pain all over her back.

She looked up at him with those teary eyes, and reached out for his hand because she really needed to hold on to something, to someone.

"You... look so exhausted... You ran?" Knowing him, he probably did. "You shouldn't have. I'm okay now..."

Leon didn't say anything. He didn't have to, since his actions have always spoke louder than his words. Leon rushed over to Adelene and grabbed onto her hand, bring himself closer and wrapping his arms around her gently. He didn't know the extent of her injuries and didn't want to harm her on accident.

"Of course silly. Moment I heard I was already out the door and on my way here. I..."

Leon leaned back enough to brush his finger along Adelene's cheeks to dry up the tears. Truthfully he was fighting back his own tears. Right now all that mattered was Adelene. The back of his mind was stirring with rage and anger at whoever hurt her. That didn't matter. Finding out didn't matter. He wasn't there for her in her time of need, but he wasn't leaving her side for the time being.

"I'm...I'm just glad to be here now. Just....What happened?"

Leon's voice was hushed as he moved about and pulled a chair in the room up to the side of her bed, his back to the doorway. He reached up to grab his goggles only to remember how quickly he had ran out of the house. He...He really didn't know. Leon hadn't had to deal with anything remotely like this during his life.

"You don't have to talk about it if it's too painful. You're safe, that's all that matters. I'm not leaving your side, so don't even try to tell me to leave. I..."

Leon got up and gave her another hug. He didn't know what else to do to comfort her. His mind was a jumble of things and his normal charm was barely even showing. Not knowing what to say or do was something Leon normally was not used to being a problem.

"Anything I can get you? Water? Something to eat? The stuffed knight? Just name it and I'll get it. Well, ask my parents to get it so I don't have to leave your side."

@Trahnael Not gunna lie writing sad Leon is heartbreaking and difficult since he's always such an upbeat and cheerful person.

A muffled noise escaped the girl as Leon embraced her. While she didn't want the feeling of being stuck inside something, Leon's arms definitely didn't make her feel that way, and instead she felt secure, and safe.

Adelene looked into his eyes as he pulled away. She hated to see sadness and worry on his always-cheerful face, but at the same time, she was relieved Leon was this concerned. She would've been glad, if only she wasn't hurting all over, both inside and out.

"No, please, don't leave. Not so soon," she replied, clinging to his hand even tighter. She couldn't take it anymore being alone, she couldn't fight the sensations haunting her on her own, the feeling of drowning, of being carried by giant waves and then being thrown hard, the memories were too vivid and real and...

She was beginning to pant and gasp for air, her eyes wide in panic, and then she abruptly sat up and clawed right over her chest on the hospital clothing given to her. She had air around her, but she could feel herself unable to breathe still.

I'm gonna die, her mind repeatedly told her. And Adelene felt genuine fear, just like back when she was eight, during the night of the accident that changed her life, and also during that accursed day when she was thirteen when she came home to the blood-soaked corpses of her adoptive parents.

But back then, she had the will to fight back her fears and live on, being the strong and stubborn girl that she's always been. The Adelene in the hospital bed at the moment was so much different from that girl, because her strong will was what's been broken the most, by her best friend, too, even though it was probably unintentional.

Adelene cried and whimpered, clutching her own aching body and curling up seated on the bed.

"I'm not going anywhere. Right now, this is the only spot I belong."

Leon put his free hand over Adelene's and gave it a small squeeze. It seemed him just being there was helping her and it made him happy that he was helping in any way he could. He'd call him parents for a cot or a sleeping bag later so he didn't have to leave Adelene's side.

The thoughts instantly vanished as Adelene started to panic about something. She grabbed her chest and Leon could tell the sounds and signs of someone not breathing. He had been there before for a different reason.

"Adelene! Shhh. Hey, hey, hey. I'm here. Shhh. You're safe, don't worry. It's alright. I'm here. Just listen to my voice. Focus on it, just listen and know that no one will harm you anymore. Shh. Breath slowly, not too fast. Just relax and feel safe, secure. "

Leon sat at the edge of the bed and gentle put his arms around Adelene and pulled her head to his shoulder, his hand moving up and down her back comfortingly while making "Shhh." noises. He began to hum a little bit to try and calm her down more. He just wanted her to know that her knight was there. Late, but that didn't matter anymore. He was here now and was not letting go till she told him otherwise.

"I won't let anything hurt you anymore."

———————————————————————————————————————————

In the doorway Robin's head peaked into the room and saw her Son and Adelene in their embrace. At any other time she would have started to tease the two, but not right now. Jason walked up with a couple cups of coffee and was about to say anything when Robin shook her head and they walked off to the waiting room. Adelene was like a daughter to them so of course they'd be worried. Right now they both agreed that what Adelene needed wasn't anyone else. It was their son, Leon.

@Trahnael I just picture anyone else trying to visit Adelene in the hospital and Leon's just on the floor sleeping when they visit. The image made me laugh and made writing this a little easier.

He was able to calm her down, but only to an extent. Adelene clung on Leon just as her thoughts held on to his voice, desperately following what he's said, and eventually succeeding.

She closed her eyes, briefly burying her face into the crook of Leon's neck and shoulder, breathing in his scent of having an extreme run just to get to her as soon as possible. She liked his scent. It let her know how near the young man always was, and that he's right there.

Her mind cleared, although she hadn't notice Robin and Jason. "Thank you," she muttered, almost inaudibly, nuzzling Leon once more before slightly moving away, and then shifting back against the head rest of the hospital bed, her back against the slope.

"The storm last night was... pretty bad, wasn't it?" she muttered, her eyes dropping to the floor for a moment before they found their way back to Leon's calming blues. "I went out... to look for..." Adelene paused, her mouth agape as if she was trying to say something next but couldn't, and after a few seconds it closed, before she parted her lips again to continue. "...him," she just said. "People were chasing him, and I didn't know what to do or how to help so I... I went with him. And then he jumped to the ocean and that's... That's where all of these came from." She gestured to her torso and her leg. But since her clothes and the blanket were covering her up, the injuries underneath wouldn't be easy to see. But the bandages around her right forearm were obvious. Adelene pulled the blanket away from her, so she could show him her injured leg, since she was wearing a hospital gown anyway and couldn't wear pants even if she wanted to. It was bandaged, from the upper thigh and down to the calf muscle, some bloodstains scattered here and there from the wounds underneath before they had stopped bleeding.

She put the blanket back as soon as Leon's seen what she wanted to show.

And then she looked at him, suddenly worried and nervous, and those emotions reflected in her eyes.

"Don't blame him... It was the ocean, and the storm..." She was definitely not going to mention that it was a huge bite wound on her forearm, even though it being on the right was already suspicious for someone observant, since all her other injuries were on the left side of her body.

It was weird. If you had asked Leon prior to meeting Adelene if he would be this close to someone he would have scratched his head and said most likely not. And here he was several months later feeling emotions he had never felt in his life. He was glad that Adelene was calming down and feeling safe with him there. The rest of his mind was still in full "What to do, what to do!" mode, but he didn't have to think, his actions did enough and the nuzzle was enough to tell him she was in a sense alright.

He sat there listening to her story. Him? Who would that be? He only knew a few of Adelene's friends and most of them were guys who he couldn't place a guess on who it was, since he knew almost nothing about her friends. He'd have to fix that later. As she pointed to the bandaged and covered areas all Leon could do was try to keep his face and eyes from showing anger. Concern shown through along with his eyes tearing up slightly.

"Him?"

It was all his voice was able to muster up. His voice had gone soft and quiet as he tried to picture what could have even happened. The only thing he noticed, which mostly extends from his swordsmanship training, was that it was very weird that all but the single injury was on her left side. Defensive wound? But why just the one? He didn't want to think on it too long. Anger was something he did not want to show right now.

"Even if I knew who it was and where they were this exact moment, I doubt I'd be able to raise a sword at them. Fighting to protect those close is one thing. Fighting with anger is another, a road I dare not tread down."

His hands clenched as he stared at Adelene, his eyes staring into hers in return as a small sign of anger began to show. Most people he figured would be all over out there to hurt the person who hurt their loved ones. Leon wasn't one of them.

"I'm sorry if I sound.....Horrible for not wanting to get revenge on whoever did this to you. As much as I want to beat the person into a pulp, I doubt I could or even would. Couldn't protect you and I can't go out and hurt the person who did this. Man I feel like a failure."

Despite his words, Leon's body language nor voice told he felt like that. He was angry with himself sure, but at the same time he was glad he had that much restraint. Now if he ran into that person in the street.... Well that's a different story.

"No." Leon shouldn't be apologizing. Adelene knew Leon's sense of righteousness somehow, and she truly felt lighter hearing he wouldn't hurt anyone out of anger. She opened her arms, asking him to come closer so she could give him another hug.

"You're not a failure, Leon. You wouldn't have even known I went out yesterday despite that storm. Really, it was stupid," she chuckled, even though no amount of humor showed in her face. "I... I said I didn't want you to blame Lochlann for this, so I'm happy that you won't..."

A quiet gasp escaped her. She didn't intend to let Leon know, but there it went, the name slipping so easily through her lips. She put a hand over them, despite knowing such an act can't take it back.

He didn't have to think twice to wrap himself in her embrace once more. They both needed it, if only to show their love. He kissed her forehead once more as she spoke, even giving off a soft laugh himself. Yeah, they both had a bad track record of running out into a storm. Wasn't always bad, but it seemed storms themselves did not like them.

Upon hearing Lochlann's name Leon tilted back and looked into Adelene's eyes. So he was the one who had done this? But...No. Being vengeful was not something in his system. Sure he was angry and would most likely have attacked Lochlann if he had been there, but not a day or so later all he could do was feel anger, and yet he still had the same smile on his face. Lochlann didn't matter at this time.

"...Didn't think he had it in him, but I guess there is more to him then I saw guessed. Still, I won't go after him. However that doesn't mean I won't be hostile towards him. With my words I mean. He hurt you, and that is something I can't forgive. I can not physically harm him back, but I will if he tries to harm you again. That I promise. Until such a time, the most he'll get from me is a nasty bark."

Leon rested his forehead on Adelene's as he sat on the side of the bed as his hand began to brush up and down her back, another small kiss on her forehead as his free hand held her's once more.

"For now, let's forget about all of that. I'm here, you're here. I'm sure my parents are here somewhere too. Right now, let's just enjoy the time we have right now. Together. Or I can bug Mom to bring up a DVD player and some movies if you'd like. I'm not leaving your side till the doctor gives the A-OK."

"......Yeah."

She wanted to say so many things, but she ended up uttering only that one word, accompanied by a nod. Lochlann didn't hurt her on purpose, she wanted to say. She believed he'll never do it again, if they'd even be given the chance to see each other again. But she was exhausted. And instead of speaking any further, she only resigned into the comfort of Leon's closeness.

"I don't feel like watching anything..." she muttered. "I want to go home, to be honest... But the nurse told me I can't move from here yet." She glanced at the blood bag hung beside the bed and connected to her arm. "I guess I did lose lots of blood. But maybe I can leave once I recover..."

As if on cue, a nurse stepped through the door, some equipment and a clipboard in her hands. She seemed indifferent about disturbing the intimate air, but she did say, "Excuse me, but I need to do another checkup on Miss Cross."

Adelene looked at her and nodded. "When can I go home?"

The nurse went around the bed to the other side to check the blood bag and the heart monitor. She then replied, while writing on the clipboard, "That's what we want to find out, sweetie. How do you feel?"

Adelene looked at Leon briefly. She wanted to leave this place immediately, partly so that he wouldn't have to be inconvenienced by dropping by, and partly because the air in the hospital just didn't feel right to her. She looked at the nurse again. "Just a bit drained. But I think I'm fine." Her whole body was actually still in horrible pain, but she wasn't going to say that. She knew they'd make her stay longer if she doesn't recover fast.

And to this, the nurse nodded and wrote down some more notes. She stepped closer and held Adelene's head, before checking her eyes and the red behind the eyebags, if they were still pale or not. They had no color.

"You can try walking around once we replace all the blood you've lost. But for now, stay still and rest, okay?"

Adelene nodded.

The nurse finally stepped away and headed back towards the door. But before leaving, she turned around and glanced at Leon. "Pardon me for asking, sir, but what's your relationship with Miss Cross?"
